Description

This was a summer project of mine and it's my first PC build so I had to do it right no matter what the cost. It took me roughly 2 months to build. I had a mac for almost 5 years and it was time for an upgrade. I'm satisfied with the outcome I can't help but stare at it sometimes. I mean if I'm paying around 3k for it. It should at least look nice.

This case is absolutely fantastic. The power supply is hidden with the shroud design with a LED logo. The case made cable management easy. For example my 8 and 6 pin cables comes out of a hole at the end of the power supply shroud, and you can showcase your SSDs on top of it as a perk. The primary color has a matte black finish with a glossy red trim which gave it some texture. I wanted something minimal and clean as for as ecstatic goes and this case was perfect.

Everything went smoothly except when I found out they're were making new GPUs when a day before I bought a 980 Strix. After finding out I had to return it. So I waited another 3 weeks before I could pick up the new EVGA 980 ti card.

After buying the EVGA GeFroce GTx 980 ti super clock edition It didn't match my build. I had to custom paint it because it was bothering me. That green logo was awful on my build so I sanded the green color off and painted the primary color red. If you're paying 700 dollars for a card you should at least be able to have the option to change the RGB lighting to what ever color you want.

My thoughts of the whole build was a journey because I didn't know anything about PC's because I was a Mac guy. It was basically trail an error it took me roughly 3 hours to figure out the cable management. I spent hours watching youtube videos and now I can appreciate the pc concept a lot more.

If you guys have any questions about my build i'd be happy to answer them :]

ps. If you're a fan of Gurren Lagann you know why I chose the name

That 980ti looks absolutely awesome! You should really send these pics to Nvidia! The GeForce LED looks so much better in white! Well done bro! Well Done!

why thank you kind sir. They should at least sell a RBG version LED mod like how they sell those Thermal back plates for they're GPUs you know?

I agree with you. That looks badass with the case!

I used "american accents apple red gloss" but i wished i gotten a mat finished. due to my LED light reflecting really bright on it.

This is the kind of build I like to see. Also, I really appreciate alot of photos, i hate seeing builds that have three or four photos. I like seeing the process.

  • 2 points

thank you man! What bugs me on here is when people put flash on when they take photos. it saturates the color scheme.

  • 2 points

Yeah dude totally! My build will be up in the next two months. If you get bored, keep an eye out! I'm gonna have to steal your gloss techniques.

  • 1 point

let me know! lol your not stealing your inspired by the technique. just have patience when your spraying. time is key here.

Diggin the logo man as stated above, looks so much better. Im jealous of your first build compared to mine! I may need to sell this 970 and get a 980after seeing this! +1

I'm in the same boat. Probably going to sell my 970 and get a 980TI.

That being said, you could have bought the 3TB Seagate HD for only 15 dollars more.

  • 1 point

Maybe he didn't need 3 terabytes?

  • 1 point

Doesn't mean he won't need it later on. It'd be $15 of future buffer vs. buying a whole new HDD later on down the line, or getting addition HDDs for more storage.

  • 1 point

That's fair enough. But for someone like me who generally doesn't use a lot of space (my laptop of 5 years only has about 250 gigs filled) a 3TB HDD seems unnecessary. He obviously thought that getting the smaller drive would be sufficient, or he wouldn't havs gotten it. On a side note, I've heard nothing but horror stories about 3TB hard drives :/

Beautiful build and great name, love what you did with the graphics card (I totally agree, they should have the ability to customize the light)

Im a noob to the pc world and saving to build a pc for around $1500. How do you install Windows 8 Without a optical drive... Flash drive?

Flash drive works, yeah.

I went on my brother computer and downloaded the installation on my usb

SO can you like take a USB and download windows 8 like buy it and download it of windows OS website from a different computer then just download it on a USB to like a SSD? Only reason I ask is because I just orderd a NZXT and it doesnt have the 3.5inch Bay nor do I want to spend the $20 dollars for something I will use once.

Nice build +1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't SP fans work better in the front than AF fans since there's a closed front panel?

Even though its red as hell. I am still peanut butter and jelly.

Hi! I like the H440 Case a lot but was skeptical about the ventilation since there are small spaces for air intake which could choke the fans. Have you faced any problems so far?

  • 1 point

not really I took out the hard drive trays for better airflow

Is your gpu how at all? I'm planning on getting this case a reference gtx 980ti report

it has a window to show the goods and you can see the gpu clearly.

Dude that action figure is going to make me put something in my pc

That is such a cool idea, like if i hung a little plastic green army man on a cpu fan cable

It would be a arduous tedious task if you move the pc a lot but i think i might do it

Hey you should! I mean the tower it self is to showcase your stuff why not your figures XD

How's that monitor? Did it need much calibration & if so what settings have you settled on? Thinking of getting it but can't find many reviews for it.

Even though i'm not a fan of red and black builds due to their over popularity, its a great looking build non-the-less. Awesome job with the custom work on the 980 ti.

Could you maybe give a detailed description of how you painted the 980 ti or make a video? :3 I reeaaalllllyyy like it. Great job!

  • 1 point

i wish i could but i already painted it XD theres a bunch of videos on youtube for custom paint jobs on gpu, but my main tip is patients you cannot rush art!

  • 1 point

I love the custom paint job on the GPU shroud. I've already done the LED mod on my reference 970, as I did a black and white themed build. You've inspired me to paint the silver parts of the shroud white. Did you use high temperature engine paint? Again, she is absolutely stunning. Well done, sir.

  • 1 point

thanks! yeah, i used rust-oleum high heat paint it can resists 2000 degrees which is more than enough. we should have the option to change the logo color to any RGB mode we want if were spending a lot of money for it.

  • 1 point

Just stunning, I was going to go do a stormtrooper build, I was looking at motherboards and brought me to this gem, beautiful attention to detail, I alas want to do something very similar!

How was painting your GPU, scary?

I never saw this build for some reason but +1 for Lagann!

Dude this thing is super sexy but may I suggest investing in some sleeved power cables. They can really make the computer look amazing. And I think your right if we are paying 650 dollars we should get rgb lighting with our graphics card. Great choice on the case by the way h440! Great build!

Love the way this rig looks! The lighting effects are superb, they really make the rig an attention getter but without going too far. Also, love the custom painted 980 ti. I can see why you wanted matte, but it looks pretty cool none the less. The green logo just looks a bit odd. I've learned from that one mistake anyhow. Overall, love this rig

Really? I doubt that, but seriously, you can't really say that about this build which he did custom modding on while you don't have anything to show for. I do realise that that is you're opinion but try to be kinder next time.

thanks buddy! yeah the stock fans are slightly louder than the sp 120, and if your getting some type of water cooling system you want to get the static pressure instead of the quit edition. The sp fans aren't that loud its really feint. good luck!
