Description

This is my bedroom htpc build, i needed something that i could play movies, starcraft 2 and swtor. I wanted it to be low noise small footprint effecient pc i could leave on all the time. Silverstone psu is awesome, the fan never goes on so its basicly a fanless psu. wish the case could fit 3.5's but oh well.

game performance for anyone interested; (1360x768)*

STARCRAFT 2 - ultra settings with vsync 60fps, drops down to 20-30 in 4v4 matches with A LOT of units on screen.

STAR WARS THE OLD REPUBLIC - with fraps max settings, ranged 24-60 fps, averaged 40 fps, extremely playable

DIABLO 3 - with fraps max settings, 34-41 fps, averaged 38.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT - max settings, dungeons/instances are at least 60+ fps, open world ranged from 30-120+ depending what you were looking at, i never got it below 30 fps though.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS - max settings with vsync locked at 60fps

TEAM FORTRESS 2 - maxed, 50-60fps

CRYSIS 3 - low spec, fxaa, very high textures, lowest 28fps, highest 60fps, averaged around 40fps, even on the low settings the game looks really sharp, extremely playable.

SOUTH PARK STICK OF TRUTH - maxed, game capped at 30fps

STAR WARS FORCE UNLEASHED 2 - maxed settings, game is capped at 30fps...

STAR WARS JEDI KNIGHT: JEDI ACADEMY - maxed ~90fps

STAR WARS EMPIRE AT WAR - maxed 90-200fps

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2 - maxed, single player locked at 60fps, online multiplayer 50-60fps

STAR WARS KOTOR 2 - maxed, games capped at 30fps

Great build. Can you explain why you chose the A10 instead of a cheaper CPU + discrete GPU?

How about DOTA2 performance.. :P

I would imagine it would have similar performance to LoL

was there a issue with it?

Ya i couldnt find the drivers or program to activate it, the mobo came with driver disks but i dont have a optical drive now.i tried looking on gigabytes site but wasnt able to find the right thing.

for times when the desktop do not come with the dvd drive, i will use an external DVD writer as the drive

a worthy investment for system building when you need to install drivers from optical drives

for the driver

use this

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4745#dl

under the windows 8.1 64 bit the WLAN driver is ver 17 and the filesize is 172.11MB dated 06 March 2014

use that driver provided

strange, I have the same mobo, and I just install windows 8.1 and everything was working properly. There was no need to install extra drivers in my case.

negative, that noctua cooler would never allow it, 65w tdp cooler on a 95watt cpu

Was there something wrong with it? I'm thinking of building one similar have any tips?

  • 1 point

nah i really liked it, my main issue was that it couldnt hold 3.5 hdd so i had to have external drives which defeated the purpose of having a small compact system. if i built this again though i would try silverstones cpu cooler and fans instead of the noctua ones and id probably get the 65w version a10.

I'm trying to do a very similar set up -- waiting for the ML06e case. Going by the pictures, I guess adding a GPU card or any card in the future is a no go? Or do you think you can squeeze on past the cables?

  • 1 point

in the ml05b you could put a half height single slot card for sure but its not really that practical

What are the fan support for this case? 2*80cm? Is that it?

  • 1 point

yea 2x80 on the side and theres a bracket you can mount a 120mm over the cpu depending on how tall your heatsink is.

Holy crap. Crysis on an i7-8700K and GTX 1080 could barely manage 30FPS. Those results ARE from Crysis 3, though.
