This is an updated version of my first gaming PC.
I upgraded the CPU cooler to a be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 cooler from the Hyper Evo 212. This cooler is an absolute monster and barely fits in my case. However it was well worth the purchase since temperatures are around 6-10 C degrees cooler than the Hyper EVO 212. This may not seem much but makes a good amount of difference when overclocking. I currently have the CPU overclocked at 4.3 Ghz @ 1.245 V and temperatures reach 72 C in stress tests and usually reside around the high 50s and low 60s during gaming. I managed to find one for £15 which was an absolute steal!
I also upgraded my GPU to a used GTX 980 from the 960. With Nvidia pascal out the high end Maxwell cards are dropping quite rapidly hence I managed to buy one for a good deal (£260). I sold my GTX 960 for £110 which helped a lot! Since I only game 1080p the GTX 980 suits me perfectly for 144hz gaming. The ASUS Strix is a really nice card with a sleek design and great build quality. I managed to overclock the card up to 1469 Mhz on the core and 1953 Mhz on the memory clock. Maximum temperatures are no higher than 80 C at max load. Highest Firestrike 1.1 score I achieved with this overclock was 12,502 which was quite impressive. Games run flawlessly at maxed out settings, maintaining well above 100 fps most of the time. You might say the 980 is 'overkill' for 1080p gaming however I love gaming at very high refresh rates as I much prefer a smoother experience.
Overall I'm very pleased with my upgrades and hopefully this build will last me a while! Thanks for reading :)
