Description

My first custom workstation. I upgraded from Samsung Laptop R530 what I have used since 2012. I chose all parts based on what I google myself. For me the most important run OS smoothly. Currently I use Fedora.

I am not planning to play games. Mainly I do some web coding running vagrant (virtual machine) also at the same time dozen open tabs in browser and few not heavy tools & softwares.

Cat name is Zjuma :)

I've thought about trying Linux for a long time & it's good to see an example here. That's a lot of case for what you're doing!

depends what you usually do and linux not always straightforward. For example current ryzen 3000 gen did not boot on linux. The issue were fixed afterwards. So GPU a bit tricky. I chose amd gpu as drivers already in linux kernel. Nvidia also works but you might need install proprietary drivers for better performance. A lot depends on a distribution you choose and things what you need to do. Dual boot also option. But in general linux is very stable for me.

Good info, thanks. I would want to keep it as simple as possible for my first try.

That looks promising. I would benefit from more hardware detection, having no experience with Linux drivers. A future project will be a productivity PC based on Linux, something to deal with conventional document formats & web services. A bit of 3D modeling would be nice, with gaming as a low priority.

From his perspective it can be true and I can understand it. For gaming and video, photo, image editing. But performance as general I think is very similar. Its very obvious using specific os depends on use case.
