I hate to be that guy but I think the integrated graphics in that pentium are better than a gt 710 card. Even if they're better, I wouldn't think it's even noticeable enough at that low of a tier that it be worth the upgrade

That's okay. You be that guy and I'll be that guy that didn't even consider that possibility!

Great budget build. Why are you using a GT 710 instead of the Pentium's iGPU? Any specific usage?

No, I just thought it's better to have a GPU than not. Didn't realise the iGPU might actually be better than a dedicated GPU.

dank g3258, you gonna overclock at all? I'd get a 212 evo or a H55 if so. Nice HTPC.

Wont fit in the case, this case is really hard for aftermarket cooling. You have to get a low profile cooler.

Didn't realise sorry

Errything gotta be low profile for this case.

Why did you get a Pentium G3258 with an H97 motherboard? Does not make sense....

You can overclock the Pentium on this motherboard by rolling back BIOS to version 1.70. Also maybe he doesn't want to overclock

Thanks for the clarification.

You're right: no need for overclocking with this build.

I see.

Rolling back the BIOS revision will not solve the microcode update that blocks sable OC's with windows in most cases.

It's what I had lying around. Please explain to a non-technical builder what the issue is?

The g3258 is known to be an overclocking chip. However the H97 chipset in your motherboard doesnt natively support overclocking. However i found that this motherboard does indeed support overclocking if you roll back the BIOS to version 1.70

So what's the point of this comment if you're going to explain that BIOS thing anyways? lol

The G3258 is the only unlocked Pentium CPU of today's generation, and for very cheap.

Yes, it is! I buy at least one every couple of months.
