Description

My PC build that I finally got around to creating. I tried to go as high end as I possibly could. I am running dual channel RAM worth 16 GB (2 x 8GB). In case I ever want to upgrade my RAM I have the space to do it. I also may run SLI with my GTX 980 TI. Kinda sucks that the GTX 1080 is coming out here soon at the same price I paid for my 980 TI, but oh well. I struggled a bit to get all my fans in my case running as I only had 3 places to hook them up to my motherboard; that would not even allow me to use my fan control. However, I was able to place an adapter to hook a molex cable directly to my PSU; this allowed me to get all six case fans running with fan controls. Cable management was also an issue. It does not look the prettiest, but I am just glad I got it all functional.

Update

Hey guys I posted some new pictures, 9 I believe. I have been working on cable management, I cleaned it up quite a bit. Check it out and tell me what you think!

Part Reviews

CPU

There's a reason this is one of the most popular CPUs out there. This thing is incredibly fast.

CPU Cooler

This is hands down one of the best after market coolers I've seen. It is large, but super quiet. And for 30 bucks? Heck yeah!

Motherboard

This is a fantastic motherboard. It'll have everything you'll need...except fan ports, it only has 3 of them..to my six fans. My only complaint though; it was an easy fix, just had to buy some adapters to run my fans straight from the PSU. (This motherboard also has custom RGB lighting) :)

Memory

Very good and attractive RAM so far. It can run 3200 but you'll have to overclock it to get it to run that fast with most motherboards. So I'm running it at 2133. Still a great RAM though.

Storage

This is one of the best SSDs for this price. It is pretty darn close to 1TB and those are 400$. It is pretty fast as well, but the Samsungs are faster.

Storage

Best value I've found for a 1TB 7200RPM HDD. Runs well.

Video Card

Wonderful GPU. It is a beast when it comes to power, and it is insanely quiet! Beware, this thing is huge! 12 inches long if I'm not mistaken, it was a pain to install, even in my full tower case.

Case

This case is massive and will have everything you need! Highly recommend, especially if you like blue.

Power Supply

Great PSU, will have everything you need and then some.

Monitor

Super easy setup with a beautiful display. Hurts my eyes a bit, just takes getting use to, especially since I sit 3 feet from this 28" monster. I had to take a star off, however, because the speakers on this thing are AWFUL. They make my ears bleed. It's so bad, I almost took two stars off, but it is an easy fix, and the display is just too beautiful! Lucky, I already had a nice sound setup.

Keyboard

So far, so good. Nice design with a great look. Works great. The only reason I knocked a star off is because you cannot see the keys unless the backlight is on.

Killer CPU, killer motherboard, killer SSD, killer GPU, killer case, killer cable mana- What. C'mon dude, some work on those cables could really make the setup shine! +1

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Haha I know it man. This was actually my first build and I spent so much time on it. I just wanted to use it. I'll probably work on it later.

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I posted some new pictures of some cable management, let me know what ya think!

Nathan291 1 point 14 months ago

Better but still not as attractive as some. However i shouldn't complain as I have no solution to it :l

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

True, this was the best I could do. I really didn't know what I could do with it haha

Nathan291 1 point 14 months ago

By the looks of it , and seeing as you have a modular PSU, my only advice would to be to route everything behind the MoBo in the space for cables as you have already unplugged all unused cables...

iCutToasts 2 Builds 2 points 14 months ago

nice buiild but eeeem... CABLE MANAGEMENT DUDE !! XD

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I know man, It took me forever to get this thing up and running, I'll work on it at some point. I was just glad to get it up and running finally haha.

Ap1s2k 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

That cable management is atrocious. For a build this nice and expensive, it's a crying shame there was no effort taken for cable management.

Looks a lot better than it did.

Nice build....but I have to tell you what you already know and everyone else has said, cable management!!!! Buys $150 case and $650 gpu, does ZERO cable management, come on spend the time and do the cable management ( cost nothing or very little ). Re-do it and post pictures and you'll get my +1. I know you said it was your first build, trying to take it easy on you :-). I know, Its exciting and you just want it together and see if it works. If you go back and spend 30 minutes its going to make it a great build.

Much better :-)

TedTheOperator 2 points 14 months ago

Great build.

dechols239 2 points 14 months ago

I personally suck a cable management, I got a case that offers decent routing for my cables and it has the shroud across the length of the bottom hiding the cables coming from the psu. Sweet parts dude!

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Thank you!

oldfan13672 1 point 14 months ago

It's a great build altogether, but I feel that you potentially could have gone with a GTX 1080 or 1070 had you waited a bit longer. The GTX 1080 will be the same price as a GTX 980ti, but will offer a decent amount of performance increases to drive 4K games with little issue on high quality.

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah, I was pretty bummed that I didn't realize how soon it was coming out. I wish I would have waited. But it also means the 980 TI will go down in price and i'll be able to SLI

Michelle.G 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Great build, I agree with everything PCItake wrote. I have the same motherboard, it is excellent! Also the same ram and a Gigabyte 980Ti. My ram is 3000 ghz, I recently worked out it was only working at 2133, so I went into the bios and changed it to run at 3000 ghz. I haven't overclocked. I had issues with the fan headers, I have 9 fans, what adapters did you use, I had to buy a USB adapter to run the extra fans? Your solution sounds better. Enjoy your build, with that motherboard you are set for the future.

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I forget the name but it is a molex block adapter with six fan ports, ten bucks on amazon

Michelle.G 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Great, I'm going to google it right now. Thankyou.

Nathan291 1 point 14 months ago

wow 3000 ghz, that must be some fast ram

Michelle.G 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I guess it is overkill, but I'm set for the future.

Nathan291 1 point 14 months ago

nononono not what i mean, u probably have 3000 mhz. 3000 ghz would set ur computer on fire unless u had liquid nitrogen cooling it still then it would be crazy

Michelle.G 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah, my bad, did mean mhz. What was I thinking???????

Nathan291 1 point 14 months ago

lol

Pooters 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

As mostly everyone else has said, cable management needs a little bit of cleaning up. But, you're probably a function over form kinda guy, which is a good thing in my eyes. So great job on focusing on actually getting it running first, then cosmetics later.

Have fun gaming/whatever you plan on doing on you're new PC. Awesome parts list by the way.

How is the i7 6700k usage while playing gpu intensive games and watching a video?

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

My CPU was pulling around 10-15% even at 4k. This was running Passmark's performance test

NitroOG 1 point 14 months ago

Thank you.

NitroOG 1 point 14 months ago

If possibile can you tell me for example like 67% usage of the cpu while watching a video and playing the gpu intensive game. Also tell me the game please. Thank you.

SuperKid 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I'd upgrade the case, it seems kind of low end for this build, plus the cable management in it is horrendous.

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I didn't really know what else I could do after I messed with it. Did you see the newer pictures? I cleaned it up a bit, not much else I could do at that point. I got this case because it was good for the price. Antec makes high quality cases and this thing has excellent air flow.

Chillsabre 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Seems like all the builds struggled with cable management in that case to be honest.

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

It may, I haven't really looked at others much. There aren't very many openings for management. I think only like four or five. And there weren't any other features to hide the cable like you see in other cases.

aaron.hossain75 1 point 14 months ago

I'm on budget , here's my build - Should I get the 6700K instead of 6600K by not getting the SSD ? Does it worth it ?

Or I should buy the 6600K and get the SSD ?

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

6600K is still a excellent processor and you really will not be losing much of anything if you get it. It'll do everything you did it to do. the 6700k is just a better multitasker at a bit faster speed. So I'd go with the 6600k as you won't be missing a whole lot more. Now the SSD vs HDD is a world of difference. Once you go ssd you may never go back to hdd. Its like comparing night and day. SSDs are so much faster. I definitely recommend going for that. Honestly, mine was the best deal I could find for an ssd as they are very expensive. 960gb for 230$ when a samsung 1tb is 400. so 170$ cheaper for just 60gb less? I'll take it. SSDs are definitely worth it my man.

aaron.hossain75 1 point 14 months ago

Thanks for the reply helped me a lot ! I will sure upgrade my pc after a long time but I think 6700K for 1080p gaming ,gameplay recording , and not very intense video editing not worth it so I will get the 6600K and SSD :) Thanks again mate.

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

You're welcome! Glad I could help.

FilipA 1 point 14 months ago

i7 6700k whit no ssd (:

aaron.hossain75 1 point 14 months ago

:( That sucks , Is there anything else I could save the money on and keep the ssd , i7 6700K?

FilipA 2 points 14 months ago

its totaly worth picking up a i7 instead of i5 and no ssd i promise.

aaron.hossain75 1 point 14 months ago

All right I will consider it . :)

But no SSD :(

FilipA 1 point 14 months ago

why dident you wait until the 1080?

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I bought the GPU like a month ago and at that time I didn't realize when the 1080 was coming out, by the time I realized it, I had already threw away the box and everything. Definitely a bummer, but life goes on..

PureBlackFire 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

you didn't actually buy that case in the last 5 years did you? like, it was a lay over from an older build or something?

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I did because i like Antec cases, the price, and the reviews. Honestly, I'm loving it right now. The only complaint I would give it is its lack of cable management resources.

ahmedabdelaziz112 1 point 14 months ago

I want to make this build. Should I wait 2 months until the GTX 1080 comes out (thats when it comes out where I am) or should I just go with the 980ti?

moodster12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I would wait for the 1080, its going to be the same price, even cheaper when other company's build it. I would have waited if I had realized how close it was till it was coming out. The 980ti will clearly be more optimized and stable with it being out longer and having updates. I mean the 1080 won't be perfect at first, but it'll definitely be worth it in the long run getting the 1080. It is suppose to be better than the Titan X. There are some youtube videos with comparable benchmarks between the two. They'll definitely help.
