Description

Building this for my son for Christmas, so I hope he approves with how it turned out.

He really liked the S340 case with the Hyper Beast theme when I showed it to him this past summer, so I centered the build around that, which was fun. He is into gaming as well as music, so I upgraded the headphones and speakers. My favorite parts are the SSD covers from Acrylikustoms, the custom length cables from Mod-One, and the graphics card bracket from MNPC Tech.

I know this might seem like a ridiculous pc for a 13 year old, but he has been gaming on a terrible system for the past 5 years without complaining too much and really is a great kid, so I have been saving up to get this for him. I'm also hoping this will get him through high school without having to do any upgrades. We might add a new graphics card and possibly a 4k monitor in a few years, but I think everything else should hold up for a while.

The build went together without any problems at all. I did mod the Kraken radiator with some orange paint and added diffusers on the led strips to eliminate the hot spots somewhat. Also, I know the ram is a little excessive, but it matched the build and he might need 32 GB at some point and by that time it might cost over $1000, lol. I was able to OC the CPU to 4.9 at 1.330, cache 45 with no AVX offset and temps are low 70's when stress testing. I can get it to 5.0, but it takes 1.350 and heats up to mid 80's when stress testing, which is ok, but I am more than happy with 4.9 and have not delidded.

Custom cable lengths are as follows: 24 pin 60 cm; 16 pin PCIE 60 cm; 8 pin EPS 70 cm; SATA power 45 cm (this is for the SSD on the front of the case. I didn't use a custom power cable for the SSD right under the GPU, but if you do it can obviously be a lot shorter)

I'll post more pics once it is set up before Christmas to show what it looks like in a darker room. Any questions, please let me know and I'll try to help!

Can i be your son?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 43 points 8 months ago

Sorry, my wife would probably get mad at me, lol.

u8mypizza 1 Build 31 points 8 months ago

If your son isn't happy with this, I guess I could take it, it would be a burden, but I'll do this for you, just pay shipping and handling :)

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 26 points 8 months ago

If he complains, I might just send it to you, lol.

u8mypizza 1 Build 13 points 8 months ago

Lol, always believe in Christmas miracles! But seriously, that is a phenomenal build, very good modding, as well as beautiful cable management!

MayhemDarkshadow 1 Build 14 points 8 months ago

You win father of the year my friend

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 6 points 8 months ago

Thanks for the kind words.

justin.pol 9 points 8 months ago

Dad? lol beautiful

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 5 points 8 months ago

Thank you!

Mnpctech MNPCTECH 4 Builds 8 points 8 months ago

Voted up! I also see you scored one of the limited edition mnpctech carbon fiber gpu supports! https://mnpctech.com/gpu-support-bracket/carbon-fiber-gpu-bracket-supporting-arm.html

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 8 points 8 months ago

Yes! I think you only had 4 or 5 left when I ordered, so glad I could get one. I love the way it looks and it really supports that heavy gpu. Can't have the sag, lol.

tmcqueen110 2 Builds 6 points 8 months ago

OMG. I have the first hyper beast case but seeing this really makes me with that i had gotten this one, i wish i could give you more than a 1+

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 3 points 8 months ago

Thanks! You have the H440 Hyper Beast case?

tmcqueen110 2 Builds 3 points 8 months ago

Yes

NLR 5 points 8 months ago

Its builds like these that make me constantly buy pointless aesthetic upgrades for my PC. I want to buy custom SSD covers thanks to you.

My eyes love you, but my wallets hates you.

+1

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

The guys at Acrylikustoms were awesome! They made exactly what I wanted and shipped it in just 2 days from Portugal. Also, I think the SSD covers were only like $14 each. which is very reasonable for a custom product.

JCMsergox 4 Builds 5 points 8 months ago

This is gorgeous. Your son is lucky af.

If he for some reason dislikes it, stick him with an FX-6300 and an R7 240 and a non-cable managed mess and send this my way lmao

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 3 points 8 months ago

Thanks! Funny you mention it, because his current setup has a Phenom II X4 965 and a Radeon R7 200 GPU so this should be a pretty big improvement in his FPS!

LeMMingSlayeR 18 Builds 3 points 8 months ago

I remember buying a Phenom II 970 BE waaaaaay back... Those Deneb quads were no joke, I benchmarked mine against an FX4300 and blew it away.

saq1610 3 points 7 months ago

Almost every Thuban outperforms a Vishera with the same clocks and cores. I'd build a Phenom II rig for my little brother with the motherboard and 20gbs of 2400 ddr3 I have collecting dust if Phenoms weren't so problematic with newer games.

tbap91 5 points 8 months ago

Damn man. Build looks great! Your son is very lucky to have you as a father! Have a great Christmas!

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 6 points 8 months ago

Thank you! I feel lucky to have him as a son so maybe we are both lucky. Hope you have a great Christmas too!

Enrico411 3 points 8 months ago

Looks amazing! +1

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thank you!

sammy_k 3 points 8 months ago

Now this is a great Build! i love how everything matches great with the theme and build so perfectly imho. Hope your son is enjoying this beast of a build!

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 4 points 8 months ago

Thanks! He doesn't know about it yet and hopefully won't until Christmas. I'm thinking about sneaking it out late tonight to see how it does on pubg lol.

bananaland02 4 points 8 months ago

this might be enough to get 60fps on high lol. great build

Tigered332 1 point 8 months ago

Might be enough? this will get 60 fps on 4k. (Maybe not in Pubg due to bad servers

Beasty Beast Boy, Pc is runnin in

Beasty Beast Boy, overclocked cpu

Beasty Beast Boy, every time I play Max fps for days~

(kudos if you get the reference. When I saw the name this is the first song I thought of, lol)

Amazing pc, that orange kraken is so. damn. sexy.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks! Love the Beastie Boys. Yeah, painting the Kraken was the first thing I did and then it all started to fall into place.

Ahsen 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Amazingly good looking +1

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thank you!

Radox-0 5 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

Very nice work here! Love the custom mod and touch's and I did not expect to see a build with that dominator RAM I liked, but it works real well here. No doubt your Son will love this beast! +1

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks! I was the same way on the Torque ram, but I think it looks pretty good with the orange in the build.

hi_im_snowman 2 points 8 months ago

Fantastic build, I love that there's sentimental value behind this build. I'm sure your son will love it and I'm also certain you've had a blast building it. This holiday season won't soon be forgotten, that's for sure!

I wanted to ask, the cable management is top notch and I was wondering where you found those cable combs??

Great build! +1

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Thanks! I got the cables from Mod-One and they provided the combs. They have several different ones you can choose from. They make the cables for your individual power supply and do excellent work in my opinion.

Pcgamer097 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Wow! Even though I'm not a fan of orange I must say that this is an awesome build! I'm sure your son will love it. I mean, who wouldn't? +1

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Thank you! I didn't plan on orange and was worried about it, but I think it works when you can see the outside case with it.

Jäßßäwöçkëë 3 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

EPIC!!! If only I had a dad who hooked me up like this lol! This is a killer build! I love it. Also like some others have stated if he has any issues/complaints (I doubt he will) feel free to ship it to me. It will be very difficult for me to have to game on something so subpar but I'll make an exception in this case!

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Thanks! I'll put you second in line, behind u8mypizza, because he got first dibs, lol.

Thisismynameok 2 points 8 months ago

I had to make an account just to comment on this build! It's absolutely beautiful and I know you son will love it! I'm hoping to do my dream build next summer once I have a job finally :)

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thank you! Good luck with your job and your dream build.

Thisismynameok 1 point 8 months ago

Thank you! I find out in the next few weeks if I have a job offer from the place I interned at over the summer :)

chavezgarrett7 3 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

Bro, I wouldn't be suprised if this got featured. Super nice build and I wish I was your son too XD

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks for the nice comment.

bunzo 2 points 8 months ago

Beautiful. Great work!

PSU cables are custom length? Do you mind posting those lengths?

Also, what kind of paint did you use?

Thanks!

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

No problem. I put the cable lengths in the description above. As far as the paint, it is Rust-Oleum 248905 Automotive 12-Ounce High Heat 2000 Degree Spray Paint, Flat Orange. I got it from Amazon (about $6). Oh and I used a white primer first after I taped everything off. Cheers!

bunzo 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks for taking the time to answer. You'll have to let us know what your son thinks when he finally receives this incredible gift!

SlackPackSam 2 points 8 months ago

That AIO is beautiful, how did you go through painting that?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

To cover the radiator fins, I measured and then cut two sheets of heavy stock paper to fit, where they would go up under the edges. Then I used double-sided tape to attach the paper to the radiator fins on both sides. I taped off a plastic bag around the hoses and pump housing. Then just used a white primer and let that dry followed up by Rust-Oleum 248905 Automotive 12-Ounce High Heat 2000 Degree Spray Paint, Flat Orange. You could also use a gloss, or semi-gloss of course, depending on your preference.

SlackPackSam 1 point 8 months ago

Cool, thanks for the reply!

mb67 5 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

That's similar to what I did with my Kraken X52! (I really need to get that build loaded up on here sometime :-P )

If this does not get featured I may just delete my account. Beautiful! If I ever have a son, I hope to be a dad like you lol.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks! I saw you used the same ram in one of your builds and were having problems with XMP? Luckily for me, after I enabled XMP and restarted, I got 3200 MHz and everything tested fine, so hopefully you got it working. If not you might check out this article on manually tweaking the settings to get 3600 MHz at CAS 14. https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/8183/corsair-dominator-platinum-torque-ddr4-3200-ram-review/index.html

eli_harper13 6 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Yeah you’re the only other build I have seen with that RAM. I haven’t updated but I got it working a while back. The very next BIOS update got it running at 3200 so it’s all good!

eli_harper13 6 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Thank God I don't have to delete my account! lol. Congrats!

customgtp 19 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

Pretty freakin' Awesome!!

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Thank you, but this is nothing compared to some of the awesome builds you've done. Love the Zombie Hunter and Fallout Build. Really, all of them. I may try vertical gpu on next one.

customgtp 19 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

That's extremely nice of you

philphaser 12 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

Your the one exception i wouldn't mind someone calling his build a beast. ; )

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

That means a lot coming from you. Your R2D2 build is so cool, with incredible custom work. Also the Coconut Lime...perfect.

philphaser 12 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Well, THX! : )

devilsdontsleep 2 points 8 months ago

What a phenomenal attention to detail. Your son is very lucky to have a Dad that'd put this much care, time and money into a present like this.

Great stuff OP!

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thank you very much!

TheDarkClucker 2 points 8 months ago

I've been looking at this build for a while now... and damn i love it. I've been in love with red and black PC's until i saw this and instantly wanted to build a new PC. Ive made the impulse decision to change it over to orange and black so was gonna get some new cables... I currently have cablemod sleeved cables but check out the one from Mod-One and just loved the design... Although i don't really know what colours to select for each row - what did you use? Im not gonna do exactly the same but i dont know what each colour is. If you could list those that would make my day :D you dont have to. Thankyou so much and this pc is amazing! You pulled it off perfectly and your son is super lucky! Congrats on this truly amazing build, Tre

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!, I have no problem if you want to use the same or similar cable colors. There may be better cables than Mod-One out there, but I don't see how it would be possible. Anyway, here are the colors I used for this build using their MDPC-X:

For the 16 pin PCIE (2 X 8 pin) it is Color Row 1: Blackest-Black, Color Row 2: Titanium, Color Row 3: Platinum-Grey, Color Row 4: Lava-Orange, Color Row 5: Lava-Orange, Color Row 6: Platinum-Grey, Color Row 7: Titanium, Color Row 8: Blackest-Black, Wire Gauge: 16 AWG, Wire Color: White

For the 24 pin Color Row 1: Blackest-Black, Color Row 2: Titanium, Color Row 3: Lava-Orange, Color Row 4: Lava-Orange, Color Row 5: Titanium, Color Row 6: Platinum-Grey, Color Row 7: Platinum-Grey, Color Row 8: Titanium, Color Row 9: Lava-Orange, Color Row 10: Lava-Orange, Color Row 11: Titanium, Color Row 12: Blackest-Black, Wire Gauge: 16 AWG, Wire Color: White

For the 8 pin EPS Color Row 1: Titanium, Color Row 2: Lava-Orange, Color Row 3: Platinum-Grey, Color Row 4: Titanium, Wire Gauge: 16 AWG, Wire Color: White

For the SATA power Color Row 1: Titanium, Color Row 2: Lava-Orange, Color Row 3: Platinum-Grey, Color Row 4: Lava-Orange, Color Row 5: Titanium, Wire Gauge: 16 AWG, Wire Color: White,

Phenomenal build, If you dont mind me asking what do you do for a living

Zquigly 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Imagine your son used PCPartpicker and found this... +50

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Yeah, I've thought about that, lol, but I'm hoping he doesn't know about this site.

slkipp 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

+1 for the MNPCTECH GPU bracket!

(I've only got the aluminum version, I'm kinda jealous....)

Also, nice audio stuff.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Yeah, their gpu brackets are great. My son is really into music (all kinds) and plays guitar, so I thought a set of nice speakers and headphones might be nice.

Namnguyen 2 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

congrats on the feature!

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

mb67 5 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

This really looks fantastic!

Also, I'm glad that you included the custom cable lengths because I'm getting one of the Limited Edition Purple/Black S340 Elites and will be needing custom cables.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Thanks, and glad to help on the cable lengths. Look forward to seeing your build in that new case.

Polar_Bear 2 points 8 months ago

This build is nice and powerfull AF.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thank you! I think it will last him a long time.

Velocitron2000 2 points 8 months ago

Your son better appreciate this, looking at the aesthetics and performance I can't complain about a single thing. Awesome build, dude!

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thank you! I think he will and he can finally play some of the games from his Steam collection, lol.

shallo1999 2 points 8 months ago

This build is insane!!! What was it that influenced your choice for the brand of 1080ti you chose?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thank you! It's pretty fast right out of the box, stays cool, is very quiet, matches my Aorus motherboard and has a little hint of orange to go with the build.

Wolklung 2 points 8 months ago

Man this is all kinds of nice. Great work.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

XFacility 2 points 8 months ago

It's nice to see a father treat his son with such a beauty. I can see that you put so much effort into making everything right. And the Hyperbeast theme is just a cherry on top. Hope your son has fun with it :D

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

MrMOABy 2 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

Have you had any issues with the motherboard? Plan on putting the same one in a build I'm planning.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

No issues at all.

I need to get mine uploaded; spooky!

How come you didn't go with the Cougar Conquer? I want to get a Tempered Glass case but none of them catch my eye at the moment and I wanted to go for like a black/white build. Do you think the Matte Black S340 Elite is good to start off with?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

My son really liked the Hyper Beast edition case from NZXT, so I was able to get one in the summer before they sold out. That Cougar case you mention looks like it would be great for an orange/black build. For the black/white build, I really like NZXT's new H700i in matte white and black.

PCDrifter 2 points 8 months ago

Makes me want a kid just to build a PC. LOL

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Lol, thanks!

Officially one of my most favorite builds on this site. Holy Crap.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Love how you used the EPS to hide the Kraken cables, wonderful idea. One day my kids will hopefully bask in new builds like this, but life first... Plus I have enough into their cars already lol, and they can barely ride bikes :) +1

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks, I wish I was the one to come up with that idea, but I saw someone else do it on either this site or somewhere else, and thought it looked nice if you are using sleeved cables. Good luck with the cars!

200+ FPS for your son on roblox.....

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Defdogg29 2 points 8 months ago

Incredible build. Awesome on so many levels. Is you son into building as much as you are?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

GQJ17 2 points 8 months ago

How did you do the fade and text on the NZXT bar?

There are so many things that look great on this build, great job.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Thanks! The fade from orange to pink is that way when you buy it on the Hyper Beat S340 case. The text on the NZXT bar was done carefully with an orange Sharpie. Same with the text on the Kraken.

GQJ17 1 point 8 months ago

Thank you!

Tigered332 2 points 8 months ago

The only thing I would have changed was the i7. To me I think i7 are over rated and not worth it, I would have suggested ryzen 7

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

It's going to be a gaming computer for the most part, so max FPS was the goal. If productivity was a big concern, I might have chosen the 1800x, but they are both great CPUs.

Tigered332 1 point 8 months ago

Throws money at you make me a pc :D lol

Tigered332 2 points 8 months ago

Your cable managment. OMG! Yes! +1 (when your build looks like a child made it (Mine))

you need to record him opening it Christmas morning and post it on youtube that would be soo awesome to see his reaction

xTHExRADxREXx 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

you really should record him

his reaction would be priceless

lets just hope he didn't see it when it was featured

BenZBear 2 points 8 months ago

at the price, why not go custom water?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

True, but I was trying to get the build wrapped up while I was off work during Thanksgiving week and hiding it from my son. I have seen some awesome custom water builds in this case.

Clemeit 2 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

Builds a high-end gaming PC that looks totally incredible "Building this for my son for Christmas, so I hope he approves with how it turned out."

No, I think he's going to hate it.

Really like the look of that graphics card bracket.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 3 points 8 months ago

Thanks. Hopefully, they will make some more of those brackets at some point.

Also, builds like your Licensed Driver gave me ideas for the way I set up the custom cables, so thanks again!

GabMPS 2 points 8 months ago

Can you tell me what are the length you use for your custom cable ? (Planning on using similar parts for my build and i was hoping to buy the cable at the same time) Thanks for your time and also nice build, i love the color.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks! They are listed in the description at the top.

GabMPS 1 point 8 months ago

wow ! I might a skiped that part

Tehholypotato 2 points 8 months ago

Love that design on the RAM man!

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks! I think you can still get it from Corsair website.

Cazza_ 2 points 8 months ago

How did you manage to get hold of the case? Really awesome looking build, I hope your son appreciates it :)

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

They went on sale this past summer and I got it then. I think they sold out pretty fast and there were only around 1300 made. This one is #1082.

blackopsmaster8191@gmail.com 2 points 8 months ago

I'm so happy for your son i'm sure he will love a great build like this for christmas (:

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks! I hope so!

PabloRdz 2 points 8 months ago

that moment when I wish I had this PC or at least just the case :(

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

The case is hard to find now. I see them on ebay sometimes, but people are asking $400 or more which is ridiculous.

Wi1dCard 2 points 8 months ago

I hope he approves of how it turned out

Humans are mentally incapable of disliking this pc.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

Munny_D_Oz 2 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

I have the same case and just stuck to a red theme, but this looks much better imo. When I saw that RAM come out I was going to get it until I saw the price, lol. Also the SSD covers look awesome! I'll have to get some for myself. Overall a really clean and color coordinated build and I hope your son likes it. (I'm 200% sure he will). Btw great photos.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Thanks! Yeah, ram prices are getting out of hand.

Greyhound227 2 points 8 months ago

Are you selling this? This is literary the PC of my dreams

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks, lol, sorry but no I can't sell it. Don't know if I'd ever be able to get another 8700k chip and prices keep going up and up on everything it seems.

alex405 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Hi, does this gpu bracket really work?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Not sure exactly what you mean, but I did have to angle the bracket up as much as I could before tightening the case screws down because the weight of the card will push it down past parallel if you don't. If you do that, then yes it works perfectly in my opinion.

x2NaTe2x 2 points 8 months ago

Can't wait to see pictures of this build in a darker room... it looks beautiful. Great work, he will enjoy it.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thank you. I will post some picks just before Christmas once I get it all set up in his room to show what it looks like lit up.

AngerS.K.6 2 points 8 months ago

You "Hope" he'd be pleased? ****, if he wasn't I would disown him. I like the NZXT route for all the RGB fans, I personally love the CAM software. In all honesty, I would have skimped a little bit on the 2 SSD's in turn for a REAAAALY high capacity HDD and the EVO 2TB. Other than that, if you've got the money, spend it big man.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks! Yeah, I really wanted the 850 evo 4TB, but I will wait a couple of years until the price gets more reasonable. 3TB should be enough for his current steam collection, lol. Don't think I will ever use another HDD.

Skunkmoney 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

This build is awesome. I'm getting things together for my first build. This build reassures my mobo choice. how do you like that case, and did it come with those nzxt wire ties? or whatever they are called. I was looking at the black model or the aorus because of the front type-c. I was also looking at that same gpu, or the aorus 1080ti waterforce. would you be able to put a pump and res. in the back of that case? Any help is appreciated. And i tell you, I don't like real flashy builds but this best has reached a sweet spot! Also i was looking at getting the kraken but hear awful things, how has that one been so far?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Love the case and yes, the nzxt cable clips on the back are included and they are great for cable management. I don't know of many cases offering type-c up front just yet, but they may be out there. Here is a great video on building in the S340 elite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBHRDuUHe4s

As far as the GPU, another good thing about the aorus extreme is that it has a front facing hdmi port to allow easy connection to the front panel hdmi on the S340 elite case for cleaner VR headset setup. You can see the hdmi cable coming out of the GPU in picture #3 above.

Yes, you should be able to use the waterforce no problem, (and I was thinking about going this route) but you may have to get creative on how you route your hoses. I think the smallest Kraken is 140mm, so you would have to put the radiator for your GPU in the top of the case because the rear fan is only a 120mm. The waterforce also has the front facing hdmi port.

Kraken has been great during testing. Everything is shut down and put away right now, so not sure long term. I think the complaints are heard much more than the praises on forums for obvious reasons. Good luck!

Skunkmoney 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

The case i was referring to was the gigabyte ac300w, it also has the vr ready dash and with this board having that and the type-c header on the front. i think i might go with it, it also supports radiators top and front, and back too i guess. Thanks for your input and support. That video almost changed my mind.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Oh, I see! I didn't even know gigabyte made a case. It looks a whole lot like the S340 elite, so the build should be very similar. Nice that it has the type-c on front panel. You can probably also control most of your lighting really easily if you go with the aorus motherboard and gpu.

Skunkmoney 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

I just found out that its a type-c but only runs at 3.0 speeds which is kind of misleading. I'm going with the s340 purple edition. What size radiator do you have in the front, 140 or 120? Also do you know the difference in the two x64 kraken? I can't seem to find a straight answer. Is it just ver.2 for 100$ cheaper. Someone had wrote that the difference is longer hoses and a new pump. He never specified which model it was though.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

I have the 280mm Kraken in the front. This newer one is supposed to have a more efficient and quieter pump, redesigned fans and radiator. The best way to know if it is the newer design is to look for nylon sleeving on the hoses going from the radiator to the pump.

This is the one I got https://www.nzxt.com/products/kraken-x62 They are 10% off right now with code BFKRAKEN, so you can get one for $144. Good luck.

Skunkmoney 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Oh man, I just ordered it this morning with the chassis. The same one. Dang! I really appreciate it though. And yeah I found it has an updated pump. Which is awesome. So these come pre-filled? Is there any need or way to bleed any air if need be?

Skunkmoney 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

So i'm just about ready to boot the new build up. You had installed the 1080ti? Is it the same size as the 1080? Because i had a hell of a time squeezing it in. I'll post it up this weekend.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Yes, the 1080ti. It is a tight fit, but once you angle it just right, it goes right in.

Skunkmoney 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Also, this might sound like a stupid question, but do the two back tab ends of the support go in between the back of the case and the mother board or do the hook out of the back like the slot covers do? Because this card isn't bent on those ends to be able to do that. So I slid them between the case and the edge of the motherboard. Thanks in advance.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Yeah, the tabs are slid in between.

TheKaramazovs 2 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

I wish I could send you that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson meme of him clapping because I applaud you sir. This is one of the coolest builds I've ever seen.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

TheNerdyPerspective 2 points 8 months ago

Absolutely fantastic build. I'm sure your son will be quite pleased. I love those SSD covers too, they match the case so perfectly. Although why didn't you get and M.2 NVMe drive instead of the 1TB SATA drive? just wondering. But godly cable management, good part choice, and just the right amount of RGB to not be overkill. Also, those headphones look dope as hell. The only thing I would change is the board (Maximus X Hero for me lmao). Thanks for blessing my eyes. 10/10 would drool over again.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks! I really didn't see any need for NVMe drives just for gaming. Boot times are just as fast and gaming is just as fast, so why spend more money on it. Hopefully, the 4TB 850 evo will be less than $400 in a year or two and I will pick up one more SSD. Yeah, that hero board is nice!

Longpig 2 points 8 months ago

Hey great build, dad of the year and can I be your son etc. etc. (no sarcasm)

I was looking at getting these fans, but I saw the cam software being an absolute nightmare. Any trouble with that?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

It is a little glitchy, but worked pretty well for me. I only had the system running for about 2 days. I will know more after Christmas once it is running all the time.

Longpig 1 point 8 months ago

Okay, thanks for your answer. Still going back and forth between these and the corsair ll ones.

Skunkmoney 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

So the way mod one does cables, when you select color for line is it 1-12 and cable 6 and 7 would be the center?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Exactly. That is for the 24-pin.

Skunkmoney 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks for all your help and advice. It’s greatly appreciated.

Gerardososag 2 points 8 months ago

Hey, really nice build, i really like the colors and your neatness. I have a question, how do you put the gpu, mine the Audio Boost cover bump with my GPU. I have the same as you.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks. Not sure what you mean, but I didn't have any issues with slotting the gpu into place with the gaming 7 motherboard.

rvoss5 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

What an awesome dad! Hopefully you have your own and this isn't secretly YOUR Christmas present! Haha! This makes me extremely excited to work on a couple of budget builds for my kids. Awesome job!

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

ggggovi 2 points 8 months ago

Awesome build. What paint did you use to paint the radiator ?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

As far as the paint, it is Rust-Oleum 248905 Automotive 12-Ounce High Heat 2000 Degree Spray Paint, Flat Orange. I got it from Amazon (about $6). Oh and I used a white primer first after I taped everything off. Cheers!

ggggovi 1 point 8 months ago

Awesome ! thanks for the info. I will be doing a white and black build and I really liked the look of the paint you had.

MyMindHatesMe 2 points 8 months ago

This is one of the best builds I have seen on this website, hands down.

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

mrb1138 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Wow. This build truly looks like a labor of love. Your son is going to lose his mind, as he should. +1 Just gorgeous.

Aleex 1 Build 2 points 7 months ago

Holy crap you got the hyper beast. Im gonna be stuck with the normal tempered glass one :(

Gray85 2 points 7 months ago

This is the coolest! Hope the kid likes it, how could he not? Well done sir.

sayyid 2 points 7 months ago

Hey it's me your son.

Ridden_ 2 points 7 months ago

Did he approve?.

NightHawk7870 2 points 6 months ago

nice build and I love the color scheme too

UberNuke 2 points 6 months ago

Your son is lucky to have you as a father, amazing build!

TarikDurak 2 points 4 months ago

The amount of love put into this system is absolutely outstanding. He's lucky to have a dad like you, not because you gave him an expensive build, but because of how you're looking out for his interests and schooling! He's probably very much enjoying it so far!

How did you measure the custom cable lengths? I'm interested in doing this for my own NZXT s340 Elite but I'd have no idea how to correctly measure the lenghts (this might be a very silly question). I'm however doing a vertical mounting of the graphics card so it faces the glass.

Sankhai 1 Build 2 points 3 months ago

I would have propably faint if my dad offered me this at that age. Actually even now. (I'm 27) Great build. Great dad. Cheers

Amd-Ryzen-Pro 1 point 8 months ago

SMH I get $100 for christmas

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Yeah I understand, and this is not a normal Christmas present by any means. I have been telling him I would try to upgrade his pc for a long time now and finally can. This may be Christmas and birthdays for several years into the future.

Amd-Ryzen-Pro 1 point 8 months ago

Ahhh I understand. I hope he enjoys this beast machine!

Amd-Ryzen-Pro 1 point 8 months ago

Wait a second are you from minnesota???

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Nope. Texas.

Amd-Ryzen-Pro 1 point 8 months ago

I was sitting here all puzzled thinking of where I've seen MNPC tech hell i live 2 blocks from where they sell stuff LMAO

VictorW14 1 point 8 months ago

nearly 6k for a Christmas gift, i'd love to be your son sir

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

I know, it's crazy how expensive the parts are getting to be. I could have cut costs in many areas, but I just didn't want to once I got started, lol. I've been saving for a while to make this happen, but hopefully it will last for many years.

VictorW14 1 point 8 months ago

Well good job, hope your son is happy with it :)

To_5BG 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

I was thinking to make very close to your build, but with asus rog strix z370e, with 3 aer rgb fans and still hue+, and different case - NZXT ROG Noctris 450. What you will say about this build I am planning, is it good, better, worse?

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Should look great, but the window seems a little smaller so you may not be able to see as much of the build.

To_5BG 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Another thing to ask, do you think that the Noctris 450 ROG is outdated for 2017/Q1 2018 in terms of temperatures and needs? (it was released in April 2015)

AngerS.K.6 1 point 8 months ago

If you really want to see the inside of the case, Get the s340. NZXT made a pretty good sized glass window. Well, there's also "NZXT ISH DEE BEZT AR GEE BEE CUMPANY" so might as well go with it.

Abided 1 point 8 months ago

The thing is my dad thinks computers are evil and won't spend any money on a pc for me

TheKaramazovs 2 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Hi Disco-Cowboy,

What did you use to paint the radiator? Also, how did you do it with painting and/ or damaging the grill? I think the orange you used looks great and would like to replicate it.

Jonsnow46 1 point 8 months ago

I am doing a similar build with ryzen cpu

JDat99 1 point 8 months ago

Question: Was the CPU cooler good for the price? Pretty much going for looks getting it lol...

disco-cowboy submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Well I think so. I'm sure it's about the same performance as the other AIO coolers, but it looks a lot better in my opinion.

Speedqb.sawyer 1 point 7 months ago

I've been playing on an iMac for 6 years and has been only able to playcsgo at low. I've managed to get Gold Nova Master yet since the hard drive failed I haven't been able to play for 5+ months. oof

FlameAgony 1 point 7 months ago

Daddy?!

Kyuubi-Kross 1 point 6 months ago

This build is looking amazing. One question, however, where did u buy those sleeved cables? I'm looking to buy some. Also if possible can you tell me exactly what cables you bought? (first build and I'm really confused on which cables to buy and not buy). Thanks

BravoFS 1 point 6 months ago

What a great build, fantastic! Just came across this as I have just gone for the Gaming 7 Aorus Motherboard. Your Son must be so happy...

plzDonateAgame 1 point 5 months ago

How rich can someone possibly get? Jesus. This guy worries about needing to upgrade his son's rig in the near future when all the parts are top of the line and I'm over here struggling to make a budget build. I need your job.

karlo346 1 point 4 months ago

The cable combs came with the cables, but you can buy them by themselves from Mod-One. They are the Icemodz Closed Cable Combs in black.
