So this is the second time I've built a system and first time I've completely done it by myself. I'm upgrading from a AMD Phenom II X2 555 and a XFX 4850 so this is a rather large jump in performance. The 4850 didn't do too bad until I tried playing Metro: Last Light and watched in horror as it all came to a jumpy halt fast. I had originally set a $1200 budget but I saw the matrix edition of the 7970 and just kind of fell in love with it's good looks so that kinda went out the window fast. I was also planning on a black red and white design but upon finishing the build it hit me that 1 I didn't have a window in my case and 2 the lettering on my PSU is blue. sigh Little over sights are annoying. Anywho I worked pretty hard to get the cable routing to be as clean as possible and the Fractal R4 really shines for doing that. The case is simply put wide really really wide. Overall I'm really pleased with the build had hope it will last me for a few years with upgrades when needed. Really love this case. Any input/critiques are welcome. As an Art and Design students I'm fairly sure I can handle it. :)

Update 1: After looking around I have found a way to change the damned annoyingly bright power light to a much nicer red led. Hope to have that change done soon.

1/10/14 Update

Added the Corsair fans and am waiting on the new PSU so I can finally have that color matching I've been looking for. Will have new pics up soon.

2/26/15 Update

Finally got around to posting updated pics. Have a custom PSU cover being designed and produced to add that extra touch so hopefully will have that in a few weeks. Will update when that arrives. And the Reason for the AX860 is for when I eventually can afford to get an Asus R9 280x to cross fire with my 7970. Also Thinking about having a local professional photograph the rig so I can have some really nice pics to upload. Will have to see about that.

Just a couple things...

First of all, your cable management is top-notch!

Secondly, when was this built? I only ask because the Asus Matrix edition of the R9 280X is out and it would've saved you a few bucks.

Thirdly, those few buck could've allowed you to get the Corsair AX760 which would also fit the color scheme.

Now that's out of the way, congratulations on your build!

Yeah I'm kicking myself in the head over that $50 right now and I didn't even know about the AX760 till just now. I quite literally built this last week so should have just held out a bit longer. But my wife as a electric paper cutter that can cut vinyl so I'll just use that to cut out some red lettering for the power supply when I get around to it.

Another thing you could try is just taking the sticker off completely, though I found it pretty difficult.

I don't know if the OP of that thread is still making them, however you might be able to find some templates.

MySong 2 points 48 months ago

I'd rob a bank for a build like this.

xBlood_Monkey 10 Builds 3 points 48 months ago

I think we all would. The real question, though, is who would you pick for your crew? :p

MySong 2 points 48 months ago

Lupin the third "if you still remember him or know him" haha.

So nice! The blue HX I'm sure you can fix...and the lack of a window....I've heard you can buy just the side windowed panel...so google that~! It's 100% worth it for such a beautiful build!

Crying_Reaper submitter 1 Build 3 points 48 months ago

Whats that express card a tv tuner , soundcard ? That GPU is massive ! Beauty of a build + 1 !!!

Also they sell Fractal Design (Black) Side Panel for Define R4 & Arc Mid Case online worth the little extra to show off .

Crying_Reaper submitter 1 Build 1 point 48 months ago

The card is a wireless card and yeah that's a monster of a gpu

Crying_Reaper submitter 1 Build 1 point 48 months ago

Do you happen to know where I can buy just the side panel? I've been looking online and can't seem to find anything.

Instant +11000 thumbs up!

IM updating my rig to what it looks like currently some time today. That stock cooler in my pics is a disgrace LOL.

DownloadMoreRAM 2 points 47 months ago

Nice! Does that graphics card light up when you turn on the PC? If so, you should post a pic with it turned on. Nice selection for an AMD build at $1500, a really part selection.

Crying_Reaper submitter 1 Build 1 point 47 months ago

Thank you! Yes the card does light up and I do plan on adding some more pictures soon just waiting to get some more money to get some new fans from Corsair that will match the black red white color scheme better.

That's a clean rig...I see why you were talking bout going with the full plexiglass side panel...Its nice to see someone who takes pride in there work as well. +1

I had a customer bring me his PC the other day wanting to add SSD and 212 cooler. The wiring in this machine was one of the worst messes I've ever seen. Top mount PSU + Non-Modular = spider web around cpu and ram. port for sata was broken on hdd and held in with scotch tape. The sad part, he paid 200 bucks for a local PC shop to put the rig together for him. Needless to say we need more people in this world like you

Crying_Reaper submitter 1 Build 1 point 45 months ago

Thanks Olie! It's gotten even better with braided cables new fans and a different PSU so I'll be reposting it soon. Just need to get some white LED strips purchased and installed soon. Hopefully will have the updated repost up sometime next month. I even went ahead and bought the R4 side window that has the plexi in it.

ollieoxenfree 1 Build 1 point 45 months ago

Ebay has 15 feet strips of LEDs that you can cut every 3 bulbs for right around 12 bucks. You can make one big rap with them and cut off your excess or if you are any good at soldering you can make as many little strips as you want.

SpicyPickle 1 Build 2 points 44 months ago

I thought I'd check this out after you re-did it. I must say I love the color scheme, it looks excellent!

Crying_Reaper submitter 1 Build 1 point 44 months ago

Thank you!

im working on my first gaming pc, if anyone can help me out to make it a really good one that will run 1080p games with no problem so basically stuff like black ops 2, cod ghost, gta, minecraft and record them all with no problem and a decent mouse and keyboard +webcam and the monitor should be built in audio system and i want a nice headset what i will be able to use as an advantage, i've been thinking of becoming a youtuber for ages and it's getting to christmas and my parents say i can make a custom or just buy a full gaming computer, but any help would be amazing, thanks

Crying_Reaper submitter 1 Build 1 point 48 months ago

What is your budget?

mingz2499 1 point 48 months ago

its for christmas so pretty much anything but not like 1000 or anything because i want to get a few games with it

Crying_Reaper submitter 1 Build 1 point 48 months ago

so $800?

Moiz36 1 point 38 months ago

How did you get the red light on the power button?

Crying_Reaper submitter 1 Build 1 point 38 months ago

It was suprisingly simple. I used a predone up LED from FrozenCPU and found a youtube video giving basic instructions on swapping out the power LED for a R4.

Moiz36 1 point 38 months ago

Nice! Do you have the link for the tutorial?

Crying_Reaper submitter 1 Build 1 point 38 months ago

This is the video I used. He does things a bit differently and more detailed sense I used a pre tailed led. But the basics of how to extract and replace the light are the same.

Moiz36 1 point 38 months ago

Thanks man!!!

Crying_Reaper submitter 1 Build 1 point 38 months ago

np love everything about this case but the damned case light. :)
