Description

This was originally based on the JackFrags SteamBox but with upgraded RAM, CPU, GPU and PSU. After 2 years I have now upgraded the GPU, more RAM, new Mobo, changed to an SSD and added better cooling for the CPU and extra 120mm fan for the case.

This is a competent build, able to play most games (apart from Arma and Dayz) with 60fps. I have upped the BCLK (I know I know, bad idea) to 105mhz to give me CPU - 3.45ghz, RAM - 1339mhz, not sure about GPU. Using the Mobo OC features I haven't have to change anything else other that the BCLK but it has helped out and remains stable.

The reason to name it 'Mutant' is that its a small case with only room for 2 HDD or 2 SSD, I managed to fit in 2 x HDD and a SSD. When I installed the new CPU cooler, there was no longer room for the 120mm case fan, so I installed it externally. When the front USB ports burnt (Literally, smoke and everything) out I added extra converting one of the 5.25 drive mounts via the USB3 header, but for 2 of the ports they are connected via a cable plugged into the I/O ports. All-in-all it is hacked together but works just fine.

Next step is either a brand new build using the old RAM, PSU and harddrives, or even look at new a CPU and GPU as my current GPU doesn't SLI at that was the reason I got the Mobo.

750w is more than overkill...

True, but it allows for future upgrades quite well. Need a new CPU first or start fresh with a brand new build

you bottlenecked the gpu so bad by keeping the 3 generation old i3

I know, its the one thing holding back my PC. But when I get the last upgrade paid off I can look at improving that. It is at the TOP of my shopping list
