Description

As the title says, it is a work pc. This site helped me save a bundle. I couldn't find the server mb in the parts list, it's basically the same board but it doesn't overclock at all. And has better drivers. And binned for stability. I got 8.1 pro and the hdd from best buy and the rest from the Egg. The ssd is enterprise so fast read, slow write. Had to return some registered memory, 15 % restocking fee. All in all bout a grand, some rebates are coming. Oh, and love this case, easy to work with and was only 29 dollars after rebate.

Why 2 1tb hard drives for $100 and not 1 2tb hard drives for $70? Raid?

Can't use bitlocker on a mirrored drive, so I just backup the files I need secured onto the second disk. Could use fake raid, but think it is too much trouble unless I were going to boot off the drive. If that becomes the case, Ill just get another ssd.

That xeon will perform very similarly to an i7, they just have the capability to be a server cpu and have no integrated gpu.

Xeon's are locked I7's that can use error correcting memory or ecc memory. Some Xeon's do have integrated graphics although the one he is using does not. The Xeon's on lga 1150 with a 5 or 6 at the end of there name are the ones with integrated graphics. Also the lowest Xeon the 1226-v3 has no hyperthreading so it is essentially a locked I5 with the other xeon features. Xeon's also can work in motherboards with more then one cpu socket which is available on some workstation boards and server boards.

That's really an incorrect statement because the 1231-v3 is just a tiny percentile slower then the 4790k but is $100 later. Yes the highest 18 core Xeon is very expensive but that is not at all representative of all Xeon's. The 1231-v3 is arguable the best performance per dollar in Intel's line up.

Couldn't agree more with you jaredt, I do plan using a 1231-V3 not only for the price, because It's of my understanding overclocking does reduce your cpu's lifespan, do you think using a mid-high end air/water cooling device is needed If I want my Xeon chilly and to last longer? Feel free to critize my intended part list

Overclocking if you don't know what your doing can damage your cpu like I did with my fx 8350 (woops). More then stock cooling is definitely not needed for stock speeds. You can definitely get lower temps with after market coolers but it's not really necessary.
