Description

This build started as most builds do with the case. I chose the Silverstone Raven RVZ01B Case. Once I viewed the video on Hardware Canucks Youtube channel, I knew I had to have this case. Special thanks to Dmitri for his excellent review.

Once the case was selected, it was just a matter of comparing what I had on-hand versus what I could grab from my local Microcenter.

The motherboard, the Asus H87I-Plus, was actually installed in my main computer with an i5-4570 cpu. However, I decided that a processor would be needed to make this my proper living room gaming system. Enter the i3-4370 cpu at Microcenter. Yes, I did grab a motherboard along with it that would replace the Asus in my main system. I also had the Noctua NH-L9i from a previous build and decided it would be perfect for this case.

As for the other parts I did not have on-hand, the 16GB of G.Skill was overkill but it was on sale and Newegg and I have been wanting the set for a long time. The OCZ ARC 100 was grabbed from Microcenter for a decent price while the Samsung 850 EVO was grabbed from Amazon at an excellent price. Likely, the EVO will be pulled and put into another system.

Finally, I wanted to keep my GPU options open for potentially power hungry cards in the future so the Silverstone 600W SFX PSU was the best option available. Although I chose the EVGA GTX 960 for now, I could potentially replace it in the future.

As this is my first build featured here on the site, comments are welcome. My cabling skills are lacking at the moment so the pictures will feature a bit of the messy.

Thanks for taking a peek at this build and yes there will be more builds to come.

Good looking build, though for the overall cost I would have hoped for something more then an i3 but its still solid.

The only thing I see that is a miss is the RAM is running at 1333mhz, I would check your BIOS settings since something is most likely off. +1 for sure.

Thanks for the feedback about the ram. Went into the BIO and enabled XMP. Ram now running at 1600 Mhz.

Does it get any air? I guess I'd like to see more pictures...

There are 2 openings on the underside of the case where the video card sits that use 120mm fans.

If you check my build at: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/DFzypg

I have a picture (6 of 9) that shows where the video card goes with a fan there and my CPU radiator in front of it (I have a shorter video card).

If ur gonna go with that graphics card and that much RAM u should probably be going for an i5 or an AMD FX 6300 or better

For what I want to do with the system, a top end i3 with Hyper-threading is good enough for now. I could always sell the i3 and grab an i5 later. But for now, not needed.

One note about the OCZ Arc 100: Update the firmware to version 1.01 as soon as your can. I used it as the OS driver rather than the Samsung and had some boot problems recently. As a result, I had to reinstall the OS to update the firmware. Fortunately, the Samsung was my Steam drive.
