Description

This build was already in the process of making, but as I saw Jipster leaving, and how well he did here and changed us all, I decided to make this computer as tribute to him and the legacy he should've left on PCPP. I know it's not the full thing that it should be (980 ti 4 way SLI) but will make due for me right now.

I won't give my "Two Cents" on everything, but would like to thank PCPP for making this able to be easier for me to build. Even though about 6 months ago I had to make this one as Space_Buk was banned for a link, whoops. I have been thinking about building a pc for about a year now, and now that its done, it feels great. It also is great, as I went for a performance per dollar, and even then, over-performance per $ for this build. I would like to dabble into overclocking, but haven't messed with the CPU much. I can play any game (except DayZ) at max setting with ~60 FPS+/-. I wish I would be a little better knowing and would've done a better job at cable management. The size of the case also make that a harder thing as the cooler isn't even meant for the case. I had trouble modding it to be able to anyway, even following online instructions.

Thank you all for checking this out and reading this, I do hope that Jipster will one day be able to see this, so geekazoid, please send him the link as I know you are in contact with him.

Please ask any questions, I will check in the morning and try to answer, if not then after school (assume ~4:00 PST for the check).

Part Reviews

CPU

Chose over the i5 just for the option and use of the threads when I start to animate and code farther along, and just to make sure I had the power.

CPU Cooler

Beautiful cooler, wish it would be in form factor with the case, but besides that, great and worth it more than the h110i gt

Thermal Compound

Was recommended instead of the Arctic Silver 5, just put it on today (9/17/15) when I finally put on my Kraken and saw a 30+ degree difference. My favorite part is that it is non-corrosive and non-conductive since I have never applied thermal paste before, just in case I messed up (which I did, I got a smaller drop and didn't check it the second time though).

Storage

Blazing SSD, filled it up by accident full of steam games and had to go fix that, making sure I had 20% room left to keep it up to performance, is now at ~50% somehow.

Case

Great case comparable to the phantoms, wish I would've gotten a full tower, but it does the job just fine.

Power Supply

Chose over any other power supply because I would like to upgrade to 2 cards SLI eventually and the platinum with fully modular is just a deal I couldn't pass up.

Optical Drive

Great optical drive for the price

Keyboard

Great keyboard, but if only they would update the software and make it cheaper as it isn't near as durable as its competitors, its held up well for these 6-8 months, completely cleaning it, scratched the media keys then wiped off where the marks were and they disappeared, the only issue is in the firmware, where the media keys aren't lighting up.

Mouse

Love the mouse, only issue is that because I have clammy hands, i have dried sweat on the sides (thumb and pinky-ish sides/areas) which doesn't want to clean and won't clean well

Headphones

since I got it for half off the original price, it was worth its money. The only issue is when you unplug for a period of time, it can reset and change the sidetone back to 10.

UPS

I believe this is the UPS that I have, it was bought a year ago for my laptop, no problems and is doing great.

A Jipster-tribute-build with an Intel CPU? That's outragous! Blasphemy!

SpikzeMC 5 points 22 months ago

I take it Jipster wasn't one for Intel? I thought he was in the Intel business... Haha.

Growliff1234 4 points 22 months ago

If you were a TRUE insider on jipster you'd know he runs in the red team. xD

SpikzeMC 3 points 22 months ago

Well honestly I am rather new to PCPartpicker, I only found out about the omnipotent Jipster a few weeks after I discovered PCPP, about half a year ago. I never really knew who he was until a month ago, so really, I didn't have much to go off. Sad to hear he was a Red-ster. :P I like the color red, not the team Red.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/jipster69/ Take a look at his profile, it is explained there.

Which button do I press to bring Jipster back as a moderator?

Herr_Tito 1 point 22 months ago

You're not the only one, lad, we all miss Jipster and his comments.

TechyinAZ 13 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

I think...I'm gona...CRY!!! :D

Build looks great! It's a sham that jipster will most likely not see this one. :(

Space_DollarDollar submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

If geekazoid would see it, I believe he is in contact with Jipster, he would be able to if geek would look D:

Thanks, I saw you were absent and was worried you wouldn't be able to do it in time. Anyway... the reason I knew was the fact that you had posted it on either his forum topic or somewhere in a conversation that i saw/was in. Thank you for letting JIpster know and making me happier that he officially knows of it, sadly it is Intel instead of the AMD that he uses, but oh well.

ZeAtomicBomb 1 point 22 months ago

Also Jip has said that 'I have seen the tribute and it makes me miss pcpp even more....' I hope he doesn't mind me quoting that. I'm in touch with Jip as well.

belhadj 1 point 22 months ago

how long that that ups last

Space_DollarDollar submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

It is still running

MagisterLudi 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

A well suited and well financed tribute.

Jipster reminds me of the The Village School Master stanza from Oliver Goldsmith's The Deserted Village. A highly recommended read!

DS4130 3 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

Gone but not forgotten. Heard his neighbours generic PSU blew out like a C4 and took out half the street. RIP. For the name alone +1

brodosaur 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Yeah, the Jip runs an FX 6300. However, I'm sure he'd be glad that you're honoring his name even a month or so after he left.

Space_DollarDollar submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Thanks bordosaur for that, yeah I should've thought more, but this was to be my personal rig anyhow and I didn't want an AMD CPU personally

toaster98 3 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

what happened to Jipster ? i wasnt here for a longer time

Space_DollarDollar submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

D: no featured build :(

kusanagiklan 2 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

Why not go with the 5820K since you're going to do be doing CPU intensive tasks? they both cost the same thing except the 5820k has 6 cores and more threads.

piemancoder 2 points 22 months ago

Mobo costs more, ram costs more.

Space_DollarDollar submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

I didn't have enough since I wanted a future proof motherboard (but really should have done it, thanks for pointing it out to me, that would be an upgrade if anything.

Mariomash 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Unfortunately, even if you wanted to, u cant do 4 way SLI on the CPU which only can do 2 way SLI

Space_DollarDollar submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Oh well, that's worthwhile for anything I'm going for, and to get another GPU either that is this same one, or the Zotac arctic one, I'd have to get another case for space and better cable management (not enough fan spots to put GPU anywhere.

Naalk 1 point 17 months ago

Quality build with a great name. +1

Space_DollarDollar submitter 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

I'm Surprised you found it

Will do/did and it looks nice

[comment deleted]
Space_DollarDollar submitter 1 Build 2 points 22 months ago

Yeah I know, but I'm the only one to tribute a build to him, and was already going to make it anyway so...

[comment deleted]
Space_DollarDollar submitter 1 Build 2 points 22 months ago

Nah sorry, but the good thing is that it can run minesweeper, solitaire, XP Pinball, all at once!

ZeAtomicBomb 1 point 22 months ago

this is a quote from an email i recived from jip:

Hey... Let Space Dollar know that I was in no way an AMD fan boy and chose to run an FX-6300 for purely budget work station performance. I am truly honored that he built such a powerful rig and dedicated it to me.

I would have gone Intel for sure in a rig that expensive myself. Lol XD

Space_DollarDollar submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Thanks ZeAtomicBomb, My only wish after all the comments was the fact that I got featured. Too bad the shark chose the better builds over the content builds :( (FYI The Shark is Manrelli in case people didn't know)

[comment deleted by staff]
belhadj 1 point 22 months ago

no way

[comment deleted by staff]
Space_DollarDollar submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

Thanks Jip, that means A LOT coming from you, especially since i can play anything but dayz at max settings with ~100+ fps (dayz at ~22 when standing still)

Yes, to both of those, the only noise is from a messed up fan, but fairly quiet

yes, especially the 24 pin, but besides that, was very worthwile for me
