Description

I wanted a case that wouldn't look like an eye sore sitting in my living room. Went with the Node 605, it looks fantastic. You may notice some incompatability issues with my GPU and this case. It took some work, but it fit with room to spare. The max length for this case is 280mm. This card is 294mm. I would say 300mm is about the MAX possible. The hight of the GPU was pushing it but it fits- power cables brush the roof of the case.

In the photos you can see it took a lot of hiding within the hdd hanger, crevices, and following edges to keep the wires at bay. Wire management took some trial and error but I think this is about the best I could get it. Nothing major in the way to obstruct airflow.

As this was my 1st PC build ever, I didn't think about taking photos along the way during the build- I was too worried about getting everything right! Oh well, there is always next time. It was built for gaming and photography work. I had lots of fun doing it.

Did anyone else go check what flight number that Malaysian Airlines plane was?

Was going to say that would be a pretty controversial naming - It was actually the MH370 for those wondering.

Controversy aside, this would make a lovely little steam box.

Well recent events did sort of spark the idea, but the number 605 has nothing to do with any actual flight numbers. The case is a Fractal Node 605.

hahaha, yea I didn't check the flight # but I did assume that it was named after it

I knew it was MH370 so I instantly though of the movie Flight

super clean desk space, very minimalist look, which is what the fractal design cases are all about :) so it was nice to see you keeping with that aesthetic :)

I'd watch that CPU fan cord man, seems it could catch a blade one day. Anyhow +1

I have the same mouse and love the name, +1

Thanks. Does your mouse also give off a slight high pitch noise while off or is just mine?

While off? Nope. the only time i hear my mouse is if i put my ear up to the laser and listen carefully, then a weird noise is there, very vaguely, but it's still there.

hmm. maybe I got a faulty one. it works great otherwise.

Makes me want to build a HTPC so bad... I love that case!

This thing screams, "Use SteamOS!". Haha... nicely done.

Ive thought about it. Maybe a partion just to see what its like. I love linux as an OS, but for games I believe windows does the better job.

Good build +1. Any reason you got the 3 fan gigabyte one instead of a smaller 2 fan card?

  • 1 point

No real reason. Price and availability at the time mostly.

GREAT, how is the gtx 760?

I like it. For the power to price ratio its a great deal.

Do you know if a slim drive will still fit with a full size ATX board? Someone somewhere said it wouldn't but I wanted to make sure....

Thanks and great build!

  • 1 point

Actually it depends on the motherboard. A full size ATX will fit with a slimdrive depending on where the sata connectors are on the board. I saw a youtube video where this was the case, but to be on the safe side I would just go with the mATX route if you plan on having an internal drive. I planned on installing a dvd drive on mine hence the mATX but later changed course to just a external. If I could do it again I would defenitly get a full size ATX board and an external dvd drive.

FYI, black boxes in airplanes are orange or red usually. Otherwise not bad.

Thanks. Yeah I know. Its just a name. And I thought they were white and orange.

Very nice. I'm going to be building in a Node 605 pretty soon. It's nice to see one with a full graphics card in there. How have your temps been?

  • 2 points

Temps have been good. Ive got all the fan spots filled. The sides as intakes and the 2 rear as exhaust. During heavy loads the highest ive even seen it get was 70c. Ive been thinking about switching the fan closest to the cpu to an exhaust to see if there is a difference but reguardless im happy with it.

is the MOBO holding up well ? and +1 for the build

  • 1 point

Yes it is. I haven't had a problem with any of the parts.

Only problem ive had is the front usb 3.0/card readers on the case...they just don't seem to get along with Windows. The back 3.0 ports on the MOBO work just fine. Just something about these front ports give me a very annoying "USB device not recognized" error in Windows. Which sucks...the SD slots would come in super handy.

  • 1 point

Do you think it'd fit a 297mm graphics card in there?

  • 1 point

Id like to give you a definite answer but...itll be really damn close. But as on mine it isn't the actual card itself that is too long, its the fan shroud(?) that sticks out an extra cm or so. So if worst came to worst- I would have taken that shroud off and cut it down a nip just to make it clear those front ports inside the case.

No problems. Runs nice and quiet.

Thanks for sharing. I'm on the brink of ordering a Fractal Node 605 system with an MSI GTX 970. I would like to fit a second in SLI soon also. I have understood I will probably have to remove both hard drive cages. Will both cards fit, and without cages is there somewhere to secure an SSD and HDD?

Are those extra fans you ordered necessary, question applies to over clocking and not.

Respect on the cable management! Inspires me to do some more work on my own case. How are the Fractal Design fans doing? I'm planning on getting myself a couple of the 120 ones, are they as quiet as promised?

  • 1 point

Thanks. The fans are good. On low I can barley notice they are on and my PC sits about a foot to my right keyboard level so its pretty close. On high they aren't really that loud. The case does a good job on sound deafening most of the noise as well.

Z87 but a locked CPU? Am I the only one that noticed?

  • 2 points

No. I made a few mistakes along the way. This was my first time buling a pc. The locked cpu was planned though as I dont have intentions to overclock. At least not this time. The build was a learning process for me just as much as it was anything else.

I probably would have gone for a blower design for your card, especially in an ITX case. Nvidia's blower is pretty great.

Anyways, +1 from me.
