Description

This is my first ever build, and as a result, I did a TON of research (and lots of posts to Tom's Hardware).

I'm not really a gamer, though I play a game here or there, but I think this thing would do great with most that I'd throw at it.

I wanted something that would be able to do some basic HD video editing (using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0) that would keep up with all the media my wife and I bring in with all the HD captures we do now. Also wanted something that will last a few years. I threw in the Hauppage TV tuner card for converting old VHS tapes through a VCR hooked up to it, which, using just Windows Media Center, seems to be working now (have to juggle a few things around).

Pretty smooth running build. A LOT quieter than I anticipated, having 6 case fans in there and two on the CPU; I actually have it sitting in the standard computer bay under my desk and it keeps plenty cool (though I did take off the front door). I really like that case too; plenty of room, and like the hot-swap dock on the top.

Prices were what I paid for each item after rebates, so look for those rebates when you're researching!

This is low end? This build deserves quite a bit more credit than that. ;)

Good choices for the purpose. I don't know the case, but from the pictures it looks pretty decent. I would have chosen a different model of the video card with a better cooling solution, but it shouldn't make that much of a difference.

where the hell did you get 16gb for 80 bucks?

Ram was a lot cheaper a couple months ago.

I watched for deals for a while. It was a special on Amazon where each 8GB stick came with a $30 mail in rebate (I listed prices I actually paid, after rebates. I guess if you don't like to wait for rebates, then add $60)

nice combination of parts, although i would hardly call this "low-end" by any stretch of the imagination.

This is definitely in the midrange builds. It's a good build.

If you consider this low end, I can't wait to see what you will build as "high end". Soooo blue, I like blue :)

sorry for the late comment but I am thinking of using this case and was curious what you thought of the cable management? any issues/problems? Also is there an internal 2.5" bay for the ssd? Thanks and great build!
