Description

After 5 years, my GF finally switched from a Mac to a PC so she can finally play games.

The H500 was pretty easy to build in and the MSI Gaming X is enough for her to play most games on medium to high settings. 16GB of RAM, an NVME drive with 2 TB means tons of chrome tabs and plenty of storage compared to her MB Air's 120GB.

The Keyboard and Ram was from a previous build that I pulled. The GPU is slightly used but will be fine for now. It is the weakest part of this build and it will probably be the first thing she upgrades if she wants to boost game performance, which is why it was fine getting the GPU used.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Keeps things nice and cool. Fans are quiet as expected and also looks very nice. Mounting it is pretty easy but I made the mistake of mounting it before plugging in the CPU cable, which made that a difficult process.

Storage

It's fast and does the job well. A bit pricey but you get that samsung quality.

Case

Great looking case, good cable management and overall really easy to build in. Definitely recommended for first time builders.

My only gripe is that some of the screws are screwed in too tightly, the biggest culprit being the Hard Drive cage.

Did you add any case fans? I'm considering this case (and the s340 elite) for my first pc build but I'm curious how hot/dusty it gets if you're just using the fans that came with it.

I added 2 ML120 fans I had laying around for intake. From what I've heard, adding intake fans makes the GPU run like 1 or 2 degrees warmer compared to stock but CPU is cooler.

With only exhaust fans, dust would be a big issue which was why I added the intake fans. I'd advise 2 140mm intake with the 2 stock exhaust or swap the back exhaust into an intake and get one more fan for intake.

It's a really nice case so good luck!

Awesome thanks! Would you recommend it over the s340 elite for a mid range build?

It really boils down to which one you like the look of more. I think the H500 has slightly better airflow and cooling from the reviews I've seen.

However, the s340 elite has the front USB-C. If that's important to you, then go with the Elite. If not, I'd go with the H500

Hey thanks for replying! I ended up going for the s340 Elite a few days ago! I was big on the design and all my devices are USB-C

I agree with your review for the case, the bit about having a problem with the screes in the hard drive case. I had the same problem. The screws were stripped...

Question: how many case fans can you install, and how many would you need to minimize dust? Is there a dust tray?
