Description

Well, here is my next-gen console... Not! Early Christmas present for myself because I could not stand using my family PC (Intel 2.2GHz Dual-Core, 3GB DDR2 RAM, on Vista 32-bit). Gaming on that thing was out of the question (20 fps on minimum settings for Minecraft) and photo processing was a pain. So I decided to get myself something better that I would love. My part list changed a ton since I first drew it out; Only the OS is the same as what I started out with.

So enough talking about that, more about the build. It went pretty smoothly, a few dumb mistakes here and there (CPU not fully dropped in the socket... CPU power not connected... not putting the CPU heatsink on... not putting enough power connectors on the GPU... But I think all in all I did well for my first build. When the Toshiba 1Tb gets delivered, I'm going to set it up with my Seagate in RAID1 mode.

I got quite a bit of parts on sale, CPU, Cooler, Mobo, RAM, GPU and Case but I wish I hadn't been so jumpy on the RAM and waited a bit to get some RipjawsX for the same price instead of the Sniper. PSU I wish I waited because on Cyber Monday I saw a 750W go down to the same price. GPU I'm happy I got it when I did with all the BTC/LTC miners grabbing them all.

I plan on overcloking the CPU, GPU and RAM in a few day after making sure everything's stable. Hoping to get it up to 4.5GHz if that's reasonable for my mobo and cooler.

I haven't tested the CPU or GPU under load yet, so I'll update the post with that data when I do.

If there's anything I missed or you want t know, just comment and I'll provide it!

Thanks PCPartPicker for helping me build my PC! :)

Update:

Added some new things, now I have 16GB RAM, a new Corsair K70 keyboard, Corsair M95 mouse and I got my CPU overclock to 4.6GHz, plus I removed the 1TB Toshiba drive after getting a new Seagate 2TB backup drive.

Epic photos and build, can you post pics of the inside? Also, what camera is that?

Sure I'll take more pics later, but the order keeps messing up so I'll re-upload them tomorrow. And the camera is a Nikon D90, thanks!

Good build man. Why the 7970 and not the r9 280x or 290?

By the way, getting 20 fps in minecraft would be a dream to me! The laptop that my family uses barely gets 8!

Thanks, the 280X and 290 were out of my price range at the time and I was getting $110 off on the 7970 + AMD Never Settle Forever Gold (3 free games).

Nice build! Question though: what prompted you to go with the UD5 mobo rather than a UD3?

Thanks! I read that the UD5 provides better overclocking than the UD3 and I got it for a good deal as well.
