Description

First build. My 13yo son and I did it together. More machine than we need at the moment but expandable and upgradeable for the near future.

Congrats on your first build. I helped my 13 year old Nephew with his first build 2 months ago and it was a blast.

May I suggest flipping the PSU over and keeping those wires near the back side of the case. Also, the 24 pin cable to the motherboard might route nicer coming out of the top slot and can you route the USB 3.0 front panel cable out the rear of the case and come through to conceal some of it?

So what upgrades might you consider? I suspect a Graphics card (GPU)

You two did a nice job selecting the parts and I hope you had fun building while bonding.

All around nice job.

Plans for a GPU soon? Put a 760 in that and you're set for great 1080p gaming!

If this kid, and all kids do, wants to game he'll need a GPU in this build. At least $100.

well, depends on the games, but I would stretch for a GTX 760. It's around $200-$250 :)

Great build, I think the GTX 760 above was a great suggestion for GPU, I would only go with the brand EVGA for that card, they have quite a legendary reputation and I have a couple 660 SC's from them, work great! Watch Newegg.com for deals on the 760. When you upgrade I'd replace those stock fans with Corsair AF/SP Performance Edition 120mm's. Work on the cable management a bit more maybe and if you and your son should get into over-clocking maybe look at a Corsair H60 for the CPU. Other then that great component choices going on here, wish my dad would have built computers with me but he can barley turn one on haha!

Also: Please turn that PSU over (make sure there are mesh holes on the bottom of the case below it first!)

All this needs is a 770 :D

All that's missing is a nice video card. Great build. I can't get over the cheap looking "bling bling" design that ASUS decided to go with.

I'm considering the same case and cpu cooler and would like to know if there are any clearance issues between the two. Is there room to mount a fan in both fan mounts on the case access panel? Thanks.

Nice build I would try to go for a gpu so you can get some great gaming in maybe a 760 or 770. Or you could go for a Radeon 7950 and get 3 free games in the process to start of your gaming experience if you want to pay around $200-$300 for a gpu.
