Description

This was the first computer I ever built. I was surprised how easy it is (my only short-coming being cable management, which I'm going to work on improving). I have had no issues at all. The only items I haven't acquired yet are the GPU and Win 7. I installed Linux on it so I could get it CPU mining while I wait on the last two parts. I'm going to buy the GPU first, then Windows. I'm going to be mining with this machine, as well as playing Total War games (The coolest games ever :D).

This is the first i7 I have owned and I'm really liking it. Coupled with the OS being installed on an SSD, it makes for a very fast computing experience. The mobo is wicked.

After I add the GPU and Windows I'm also going to add another 8 gigs of RAM and a card reader. That will finalize my build. I'll keep this build updated as I go too, and once I install Windows on it I'll install HWMonitor on it and fill in the temperature information as well as the benchmark test results.

Lastly, since it was unable to be verified on this site that the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO could fit in the Rosewill Blackhawk case, I can verify that it does, so long as you remove the case fan from the side panel. I will be going with a low profile cooler next time I build a PC though.

With that type of build, I would've gotten a Phantom case. But that's just my dream build though. Good build.

For the $500 price tag, what led you to the Asus Radeon R9 over the GeForce GTX 780?

That's a solid nuts and bolts build, you didn't bite on the endless 1st build money pits, +1.

He's a coin miner. :(

The Radeon GPU's get way more hashing power than the GTX's when it comes to coin mining. Hashing speed depends on the number of cores as opposed to just the speed of the cores. The Radeon's have a LOT more cores. I heard Nvidia is going to start making GPU's more mining friendly, which is cool. More choices, AND, since the demand will be spread around more, you won't see such bad price gouging on certain GPU's, and that's one of the reasons I haven't bought one yet.

Nice build! How is that 650W working out for you? Is it enough?

Yes, it's more than enough, even after the GPU is added. I won't be overclocking either so I'm sure it'll be fine.

Interesting. Why did you opt for the i7K. Aren't K CPUs specifically designed for OCing?

I meant I won't be overclocking the GPU. I did want the option to OC the CPU, so I paid the tiny bit more and got the 4770k.

Oh, I'm new to pc building and am still learning. I'm almost finished with my build but have to get a GPU. I plan to eventually overclock and I'm not sure what I need. That's why I'm asking about yours. I'm trying to keep the cost on the GPU to a minimum without sacrificing OC. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3fWbj Any advice?

If you're just wanting a GPU for gaming and not mining, the Geforce GTX cards are the way to go imo. Just get one with a "Ti" on the end and you'll get a whole lot of bang for your buck.

Looks good. The only thing I would have done would be to add another 8 gig stick of ram.

That's in the plan!

Looks great! How do you like the graphics card?

Sorry for the delay in replying. LOL I actually just had that there as a place holder. I just bought the Sapphire Vapor-X R9 270x. It will be here in the morning. :)

Very nice build. This is one of the only times, in my opinion that a i7 4770K will be fully utilized. Total War Rome II is a crazy processor heavy game. +1

I'm still holding off on buying Rome 2. As much as I have been drooling over that game, I'm waiting until they're done patching it, or at least get reasonably close. Rumor has it the game was terrible when it was released last fall. I think they rushed it a tad too much. LOL I would much rather they do it right the first time, even if it takes longer.
