Description

Hi all,

This build is my tribute to Chris Evans as Captain America and the late creator of this MCU, Stan Lee. Most people know that End Game is his last MCU movie so this is my thanks to him. This was my first time doing a PC Mod so needless to say, I had a few mistakes here and there. This was an evolved build over the past year. I took a little of my inspiration from "Small Box of Skulls" by thatguitardude.

The first processor I originally used was an I3-8100, which is why it's only an H370. I would've gone with a 9th Gen non-K but I think as of now, they still haven't come out with a processor version that does that. In my future I do look at swap out and possibly another Marvel build where I can use a MB that has OC capabilities.

RAM, Video Card and Case were all painted the midnight blue to match the captain's suit. RAM and Case wasn't too difficult as there are some tutorials on YouTube on how to do it. The video card on the other hand was a beast of it's own as there were no tutorials specific to the EVGA 1080 FTW2 or any video card similar to the series.

As far as the custom parts go, I didn't really do anything on my own. Here they are as listed:

*GPU Backplate: JM Mods

*Right Side Panel: JM Mods

*Left Side PSU Supply Shroud: V1 Tech

*Front Shield: Etsy: Comic Sandwiches

*Inside CPU Cooler Shield: Etsy: Trevor Day at Enterprise XD Design

*Plexiglass cutting: Gofab

A few things to note: The shield has to be removed from the CPU cooler when playing games, I get the CPU topping out at 100 C and it can only get worse if I don't remove the shield that restricts airflow. Idle CPU temp is around 50 C which is stupid for idle. The shield is on there for aesthetic purposes and I would rather not kill my CPU than keep the look.

The lighting behind the shield is controlled by ASUS Aura whereas the lighting for the GPU backplate and the Side Panel are controlled by a 5V Molex controller provided by JM Mods. I had to buy aftermarket molex LED's in order to get the PSU cable guard on the left side to be lit up.

Some things I would like to do differently: Get rid of the SATA power and data cables, it adds clutter and makes more of a mess. I would rather stick with all M.2 and store everything offsite on a NAS. Trust my measurements. The 24-pin custom Cablemod cables are long and therefore stick out into the space more. I should've stuck with my shortened length rather than add 5cm to the cable. Go with a better CPU cooler. The UFO CPU cooler looks cool, but it takes up SO MUCH space. It also gets loud when the CPU starts getting under load, so I'm not a huge fan of it and in the future I'll probably be swapping it out when I also swap out the CPU.

Shameless plug, this is a gaming/streaming machine. So follow me at twitch.tv/tacpiztols to watch me play.

Thanks for looking!

Definitely, I’m staying off of social media until I see the movie. And I’ll delete a comment if someone posts that on here...if I’m able to.

Beautiful! I love the cooler mod. This deserves a feature.

The way the shield looks in front of the intake fan tho. The way it's back lit is sick!

Nice design. 50 idle-100°C is high. I don't like water cooling because of the risk, but it is an option, if you're really worried about CPU heat.

  • 2 points

those are temps that will kill your CPU if you don't do something about them

  • 1 point

Definitely, I don’t want to do an AIO because an efficient air cooler will be just as cheap. I will be swapping in the future for a better cooler.

RIP airflow

  • 2 points

The front airflow isn’t as bad, the shield on the CPU cooler is the killer.

Amazing first time project! love the shield integration into cooler. and yes ahaha looks or performance in the case of modding xD.

overall, very well done, awesome that you shouted out who helped/provided mod services so that we can contact them for our own projects if need be and congrats on the feature!

Just did a lot of research, but I got rushed towards the end, this build was 7 months in the making and it stalled out in the middle due to an un-responsive vendor.

This Build is amazing! You took advantage of the small case to make an amazing build. Nothing looks out of place or poorly done and the way you utilized the light to illuminate Stan Lee's face is super cool

+1 and this deserves a feature

  • 1 point

I gotta give credit to JM Mods on that. I’m glad you see it that way, some things weren’t to my liking and I did mess up on that Stan Lee side panel but I made it work. It’s all in the angle.

is the custom GPU side panel a home made part, or did you send out. Sorry if its in your description. TL;DR

  • 1 point

I’m assuming you’re talking about the panel below the GPU. That’s a power supply shroud, and that was made by v1 tech.

  • 1 point

No I meant the entire side panel. Is it acrylic?

  • 1 point

Ahh, yes, it’s acrylic, or plexiglass to be specific. But I had a local machinist cut it so I could get the ventilation to be specific to the fans. I missed a little.

  • 2 points

Well I think it looks swell. I have a Core V1 as well and have been deciding on mods for a while.

  • 1 point

ah, so Gofab made all the ventilation holes in the plexiglass?

Yea, although I had to build it myself in a autocad program.

Nice! Great job on the case and build, definitely an eye catcher - a powerful one at that. Definitely look into an AIO cooler for the CPU. They work pretty good, and are a good option for the small case.

One thing... you could use a desk :).

That’s why it’s a mini-ITX. :)

  • 2 points

Go for an Ikea desk. I custom built one for less than 500$ based on the Skarsta to which i added a shelf for my monitor. Best desk I ever bought/made. Now I have added custom lights, induction charger and using the lever to raise the desk as a headset holder. If you are cramped for space, there's 2 sizes of Skarsta :)

didnt know the endgame could be spoiled here aswell lmao

  • 1 point

It’s not spoiled. Everyone knows it’s Chris Evans’ last movie along with the original avengers. Contracts are up, you know they won’t be doing it anymore. You don’t know how they’ll wrap up each character.

Hi there, nice build to see!

Just want to know how to connect the fans into motherboard. I have a gigabyte z390-i aorus itx motherboards, it only has 3 slots for fans, 1 for CPU fan and 2 for others. All are 4-pins. But I found that the front panel fan is only 3-pin, what should I do with this? Should I connect to the 4-pin slot in the MB? If so, where should I connect the 2 rear fans to?

Thanks.

  • 1 point

You’ll have to use a fan hub if you’re doing more than 2. The 3 pin can still connect to 4 pin fans, the 4th pin will control fan speed for the sake of noise. In that case you won’t be able to control fan speed and it will be fixed. This is a super late reply so I hope you have it figured out by then.

Thank you for making this review. I have been looking at overclocking my i7-2700k but I want a better CPU cooler. I have the cooler master laying around but I didn't think it would get the job done. Good job on the build, looks great!

What speakers do you use with the monitor as it doesn't have built in? I have one and would like to get a soundbar to limit using desk space but I'm not sure which if any are compatible?

What do you mean Tribute to Cap? did he die in end game? wtf man? is this a spoiler?

  • 1 point

Lol. It’s a tribute to Chris Evans as Cap. It’s well known that it’s his last movie. Doesn’t mean CA will die, but some people are saying another person will takeover the character.
