Description

I built this computer to have a machine that was top-of-the-line and worked extremely well. And that's exactly what I got. I started the parts list back in 2012 and began thinking of a $1000 budget machine. After procrastinating for a few years, I realized I'd saved up quite a bit so I decided, "Screw logic, let's go make a pile of expensive ****!" Yeah. I did that.

First build, so please give me some tips. I haven't finished the build yet, still got a ML140 and 2 old 2TB hard drives on the way. So I'll throw those in soon and update this post.

Part Reviews

CPU

Run's beautifully. Easily overclocked it to 5.0 GHz in the BIOS and hasn't had a single hiccup.

CPU Cooler

Easy to install, connects easily to Corsair Link, and keeps my i7-7700K running at below 30 degrees Celsius. All while staying moderately quite.

Motherboard

A simple UEFI BIOS, an elegant design, and RGB's cause a e s t h e t i c. The board come's with ton's of features I'll never use, and built in WiFi. The simple black/gunmetal look matches any build and the RGB's are customizable. And the box looks nice.

Memory

I don't think it would be possible to give this anything other than the best rating possible, they are quite literally perfect. 32 GB is overkill, heck, this RAM is built to be overkill, and it overclocks in the BIOS without trouble. It's shiny, and it lights up. Built in Corsair Link functionality is cool too. Packaging is awesome too. (Come's with a Corsair Hat and a microfiber cloth, totally makes the $329.99 worth it)

Storage

While some say this drive is a "budget option" and isn't the fastest, I think this is extremely fast, faster than I need. And no, I'm not coming from a HDD and going "These newfangled SSD's sure are quick", I'm coming from another, lesser NVMe M.2 SSD.

Video Card

Great built in AIO, stays cool no matter what. It's always somewhere from 27-37 degrees and the highest I've seen it is 42 degrees Celsius. Overclocking it in MSI Afterburner is easy, (just don't set the clock speed to max without adding some voltage) and shows results. In GTA V at 1440p maxed settings, it gets a steady 140 fps. This graphics card packs a serious punch.

Case

Good case. It has a nice tempered glass side panel for viewing your components, and a nice matte black finish. But the cable management bar made plugging in a few cables hard, and the matte finish scratches easily. Also, I had to remove one of the cable clasps because it blocked the USB 3 headers. Other than that, no trouble.

Power Supply

Nice open cell foam packaging and sturdy, simple ribbon cables. The motherboard power cable is sleeved too. And it's a 80+ Platinum efficiency. I could do 1070 SLI and this PSU would still run fine.

Operating System

Works great, no problems. Some of the security and internet things are pretty sketchy, but you can just turn that all off because it's Windows 10 Pro.

Monitor

1440p and G-Sync. The drivers automatically installed when I updated Windows, and the panel is great. Some people say the color is washed out, but I can't say I agree.

Mouse

A nice mouse, but a little small for my big hands. That's more of a problem with me though, and I won't take off a star for that. It was pretty affordable, and hey, RGB LED's!

Headphones

Affordable 7.1 audio and a great microphone. Nothing wrong with it.

How are the temps under load with that 5GHz beauty?

Haze811 submitter 1 Build 3 points 6 months ago

Still really good somehow! It stays around 31 degrees Celsius most of the time, but can get to 36 on rare occasions. The H100i V2 is a beast!

Wow.. on a 7700k at 5GHz? I seriously don't think anyone can possibly beat you in the silicon lottery, nice build man!

Thanks, I guess I pulled the lever on the slot machine and got all 7's ;)

Gr1ff 2 points 6 months ago

But why no GTX1080 in this sick build :o

Haze811 submitter 1 Build 2 points 6 months ago

Then there wouldn't be enough 7's. (Also the 1080 Sea Hawk costs like, $750)

This needs more upvotes. The Platinum Chrome RAM and Marty McFly fan combo is nectar. Anyway, how annoying is it that the old Corsair white LED fans are so much more blue than the new ones and most other white LEDs?

Haze811 submitter 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

Thank you so much! Honestly, while I did notice the blueness of the older fan, the fact that the other, whiter, fan is on the top makes it much less noticeable. Also, I'm loving the Back to the Future reference there.

Thanks you! A little advice for when you go to build that PC: buy the mobo, SSD, and CPU at Micro Center! The prices I got my parts for were a solid 30-40 dollars under that of the online listings on Amazon and Newegg. I think they also have a combo deal, where it's like another 30 bucks off when you buy the 3 together. (Micro Center pls sponsor me, I'm totally broke now)
