Description

This build is going to be solely an HTPC stream box. It's loaded with Ubuntu and Plex. That's it. No frills, no thrills and no need to do anything crazy.

A bit of background information most of this build was from an old HP pre-built that i found out side my apartment near the dumpster.

CPU/MOBO/RAM: This is what came in the pre-built it's a ten year old Core 2 Duo that runs a blazing fast 2.4Ghz. The MOBO is an absolute trashed ASUS pile of junk that has one PCIex16 2.0, and the RAM totals 3GB of low speed value RAM. But it was free!

HDD: Pulled this out of an old laptop. It's slow and only has 320GB which is way more than enough for this build.

CASE: I've had my eye on this case for a long time. I love the look of it and the front compliments my TV rig very well. It actually wasn't that hard to build it out.

PSU: Might be a bit under powered if I upgrade in the future. Actually I pretty much can guarantee it is, but I didn't want to have to deal with only 40mm of clearance between the DVD drive and the PSU in the case. My hands are just too big.

GPU: An old GeForce I had got from my local computer parts store for $20. It was low profile which fits the case and had an HDMI out. It's perfect for this build.

Cool build. I looked at the parts list, and although, simple by today's standards, this is a beast compared to my Apple IIe of many years ago, not to mention much cheaper!! I also remember how expesive it was to go from 1 GB to 2 GB of RAM on my first system with XP Pro.

Even by today's standards this is a pretty low end build. 10 year old CPU, DDR2 RAM, and a 5400RPM SATAII HDD.

I remember my first build had 4GB DDR2 and it cost me almost $250.

Cool build. Nice to see parts get reused and put into something like this. Just goes to show ya that you don't need new fancy parts to run a HTPC.
