Build

RGB AMD Build

by pantman

Description

Built this machine as my first gaming PC, turned out pretty well. RGB accenting on a color neutral base was what looked best to me so I rolled with it. Looks simple but stylish while off and the immediate wave of color that comes when I turn it on gives me that "Iron Man Suit-up" effect every time. Overall I'm very satisfied with this build and am glad I did it. Thanks for checking it out!

Part Reviews

CPU

This CPU is fantastic, though it's being pretty heavily bottlenecked by my GPU. I have it overclocked to 3.8 Ghz, but until I upgrade my GPU, it won't really matter.

CPU Cooler

A good lesson not to buy things just because they're pretty, but man is this cooler pretty. Looks aside, this thing was a pain to get on my motherboard, and I have no idea why. Couldn't get one side on for the life of me, and the only way I could get it on securely was with one screw missing. It doesn't make a difference though, as the fit is extremely tight and even without the screw it's not going anywhere. Also, be aware that the led ring is tinted slightly cyan if you set it to white.

Motherboard

I like this motherboard a lot. The BIOS is easy to use, it has four memory slots, and it has some RGB lighting that can do effects even while your system is powered down. My only issue with this motherboard is that you cannot control the two RGB headers seperately, but it's not a huge issue.

Memory

This ram is great. Good, fast ram for Ryzen, with some individually addressable RGB LEDs. It looks fantastic and works as expected. Was able to OC to the full 2933 Mhz.

Storage

2TB is plenty of storage even for my 100 game steam library. Seagate is a good brand and this HDD is as fast as I expected.

Video Card

Really good cooling on this, got it used off of E-Bay. Not the fastest card but I'll upgrade to an RX 580 in the future so I can make use of my Freesync Monitor and Ryzen CPU.

Case

Nice looking case that's easy to build in. Not huge like some of the cases out there, and gives just enough room for all the parts. Wish it had a PSU Shroud, but it's not the end of the world. I've heard you can use the 460X psu shroud in this case, so I might look and find a shroud on E-Bay.

Power Supply

Wish the 24 pin power cable was black instead of rainbow, but it's not a huge deal. Good PSU, Corsair is a good, reputable brand and so far it hasn't exploded, so it's a win in my book.

Wireless Network Adapter

Mine stopped connecting to wifi after a couple of days. Ended up refunding and connected an old WiFi range extender via Ethernet. Good temporary solution until I move into my dorm in August.

Case Fan

LOOOVE these fans. Like oh my god LOOK AT THEM they are pretty great. Airflow is good and it works fantastic with ASUS Aura Sync. I have my Infrared Sensor tucked away so it can't be seen but can still be used.

Monitor

Good looking freesync monitor, upgraded from a 1600x900 monitor and I'm loving the upgrade.

Keyboard

Had a couple discolored keys when set to white, but it was easy enough to fix in CUE software. Not a big deal if you want something other than backlighting. Probably didn't need RGB but you live and you learn.

Mouse

New favorite mouse, if this one dies I'll get another. RGB is fun and there are PLENTY of buttons to customize to your liking. Got this because it's so highly praised (I can see why now) and also because I wanted the "hyper fast scrolling" button that unlocks the mouse wheel.

Other

Good, high quality headset at a decent price. Looks good, has a nice mic, and the audio is fantastic paired with ASUS motherboard's "Supreme FX." Good buy, and it should last me a while.

Other

Fast boot times, and 250GB is enough for all the programs I wanted to put on it, with about 90GB left for updates.

I'm not one to like RGB but what you have done here is just amazing, also what sort of games do you play on this computer? : )

Thanks for your feedback! I play Rainbow 6, PUBG, and Battlefield 1 just to name a few. I'm going to get some more demanding triple A titles here soon that I wanted to play when they came out but couldn't run them.

How is the monitor treating you?

It's fantastic, used it with my old PC as well and it's very good quality. I wish I had a newer graphics card so I could make use of the Free-sync but I'll get there eventually.

Not sure, got it at Target a while back when I redid this room.

Great PC but the GPU? I would strongly recommend a 1060 3gb or 1050ti if you have the budget.
