Description

Built a while back, and made lots of changes over the months, but I think I have it where I finally like it. I picked the G3258 back when it was still being heralded as the best budget CPU ever, and I honestly like it. It has served me well in most games, I think my GPU is holding me back more than the CPU. I salvaged much of this build from friends, an uncle, and a recycling center. All in all it cost me about $400 USD to build it, excluding peripherals. I use it to play whatever games I feel like, like Verdun, BF4, Titanfall, Gta V, to games like Civ V, Total War games, and Euro Truck simulator 2. I also use Boinc on this.

I painted the Front Grill and the top grill blue, and I also painted "Trash 5000" onto it when my brother said it looked like trash. I also modded the sidepanel, putting a much larger window on, which required me to cut the some of the back to make room for it. I made a DIY psu shroud out of Gaff tape and cardboard, and "sleeved" the cables with Gaff.

Well done dude, great aesthetic going on here, great job on the DIY stuff (Window, Grill, PSU Shroud etc.) and I like the LinusTechTips NF-F12, it's a nice touch.

+1 for the PSU shroud. Very creative never would've thought of that.

My uncle actually suggested painting the bottom part of the window to hide all the cables, and that's when I got the idea.

I would have gotten an AMD quad core over a dual core, games these days are starting to require quads. Not like the g3258 is bad cpu just that it only has 2 cores. Nice build by the way.

Thank you! I'll have to say I am still split over the 870k vs G3258 debate. I have a clear upgrade path, and honestly I thought I would have a job way by now, so the pentium was supposed to be temporary.

Gaff tape works for everything. Love the build, man. You're definitely ballin' on a budget.

Thanks. I had a whole bunch of gaff lying around during Theatre Tech so I figured why not use it!

Put some letters on the psu shroud with some LED lightings, like this one: http://prntscr.com/a5agyd

I was considering putting Trash 5000 on there, but decided against it. I like how it kind of just blends in. Just my own opinion.

Thank you! I had like no twist ties or zap straps so I improvised. Also didn't help that the PSU had so many busted sata power connections. Had to throw in so many molex to sata cables.

Me also saw booted. **** damn hell ect... Okay I'm sorry I couldn't help myself ;) yea I'm very excited about the finals, Unless something huge comes up in Episode 3 I think I have a very good chance. Going to pick up a Xeon 1231 V3 and wait to see wait Pascal and Polaris do. Little upset he didn't mention my Side panel window... But ah well.

Pick up a Xeon 1231 V3 (or I5 4690k, still debating) and wait to see what polaris and pascal do, put the remainder towards one of those. I was going to buy some black cables, but I am kind of attached to the whole Improv look

The Xeon I am looking at has 4 cores, 8 threads. Just like an i7. But they aren't Overclockable. Linus likes xeons because he does lots of workstation and server videos. I like it because I honestly don't see a huge advantage of an overclocked i5 vs a locked xeon, and they are around the same price, and I do lots of boinc, so I think 8 threads would be nice.

Yea... I thought I was going to too. Antoine looked average and Mac's wasn't really Budget

Thanks man! I don't know Mac was literally just a white H440 away from looking just like everyone else's builds in season 1. And someone costed his build, it was like $700, which isn't budget at all.
