Description

<<<<<<Update>>>>>> - I have replaced the Diablotek PSU with a Corsair CX500M- The system is Much quieter now, however, the CX500 comes only with a 2x Sata power cable. So, until I order a 4x or 6x cable, I'm running it with no power to the CD or the 1tb HDD.

This system was originally built in 2010. I used it for awhile but eventually passed it on to my dad, he used it up until last summer. I took it back when he complained of some issues with getting anything to display. It sat in my closet, waiting to be fixed, until Oct/Nov last year.

The Motherboard, CPU, Ram, HDD, Case, PS and CD are original parts. When I got into repairing this system, I got the issue taken care of and decided to upgrade it a bit and use it as a HTPC type system. It is currently in my living room, hooked up to a 51" 1080p Samsung Plasma TV. It looks good on the big screen.

Some notes on this system.... I have unlocked the 4th core on this CPU, so it is labeled as a Phenom II x4 B50, clocked at the stated 3.2GHz. I have also added a 1tb HDD that I had sitting around, I can't remember if it's Seagate or WD, but it is a 7200rpm 64mb cache model of one of those brands.

As you can see from the pictures, the PS has suffered and the whole system could use a thorough dusting. The PS has NO 6/6+2/8 pin connectors, so I've resorted to the not as good connection. Converting the 4 molex to two(2) six pins for the 270x. Seems to work, but the PS is the next thing to be replaced in this system, followed by better Ram.

I'd wholly suggest replacing that PSU ASAP.

I know it's on your list, but Diablotek PSU's are major fire hazards, and I wouldn't want a beautiful rig like this to get burnt up.

If you need cheap, the EVGA 600B is only $45 on Amazon

Also, may I ask why 16 gigs of ram in this? Seems overkill but I'd love to know why!

Maybe the company wants their stuff on fire...I think they jinx it with the name

They honestly must.

Diablo meaning meaning devil in Spanish, and then of course the "I'm so cool I'll spell it Tek instead of tech" makes its a horrendous combination.

I really don't know much about the company, I guess I just always thought of them as a bad company so I never really cared to research them much.

Yes, I agree. PSU upgrades are the next item for my builds. Because I'm a student and single dad, things take time... What will end up happening is I'll replace my PSU on MY desktop "The Operative", also listed on my completed builds, check it out... and the CX 750m will migrate to my "Peacemeal" build.

As for the Ram. When I built this rig originally, I was very NEWBIE, and simply wanted to fill the ram slots. When I replace it, it will get a bump in speed but a loss in amount. Probably going to go with a 1600Mhz 8gb kit.

Ah, very nice build you have there :D.

I love my current rig, i3 2130 and GTX 650 1 gig. It needs a need GPU currently, but it'll suffice and has been fine for now. The only issue with mine is the mismatched ram kit, a single 4 gig stick of 1066 G Skill and then a 2x2 1333 Nanya kit, about the only thing that is actively hindering me currently.

Well that and my 5400 RPM 500 gig drive, and my slowly dying 250 gig WD drive which acts as my boot drive.

Sweet build though! Hope you and your kid/s are doing well, being a single dad in this world can be tough!

Love the R9 270, great card. Nice overall build, but yes the power supply is not the greatest, hate to be that guy ahah.

I know! i know... I hung my head in shame after realizing what I'd have to do to make the system work with my current parts... The Diablotek PS is running everything without any issue, but it's old. ugly. and is also the loudest part of the build... Thankfully, it doesn't have to last too much longer and it isn't used for overly demanding tasks.

It should be fine until a replacement can be ordered, but until then just keep in undemanding. Best of luck!
