Hey guys! This is my first build! I've been saving up the money to get this build for a long time and I decided that this holiday season was the best time to finally build it. I got a lot of great deals and am hugely pleased by it. Without further ado I give you "The Red Baron."
For my first ever build I wanted the best and saved up money for it. This past few months has been great for the GPU market with the release of the GTX 900 series. Not only do I now have a good new gen game library to choose from the black friday prices really helped make this build affordable. I bought all of the parts from Newegg and Amazon excluding the i5 and Z87 Sabertooth; those two I bought off of ebay new at auction price.
What I'd first like to point out is the temps I'm getting. Holy crap this thing is ice cold. Playing Farcry 4 on the ultra preset @1920x1200 I get 80+FPS and none of the components (besides the gpu) have risen above 52*C! This is due to the h80i, Windforce cooler and 5 case fans. It's very quiet when idle and playing games like Hearthstone, League of Legends, World of Warcraft and most of my library. When playing very graphically intense games like Farcry 4, Battlefield 4 and Crysis 3 it can get pretty loud. This isn't a big problem for me as I have a nice headset that cancels out all the noise from the Windforce cooler and fans. I'll be overclocking soon when I feel that the paste has set in enough.
I tried not to cheap out on any parts althought the RAM is not that big of a name brand. The PSU will be upgraded if it can't handle a stable OC on the i5 or if I decide to get a second GTX 970 for SLI. I've owned that same SSD in another build and although it's on the cheaper side they proved reliable for me. Same goes for the HDD, lots of space and reliable.
Now this may not be the biggest case but it was on sale for a great price and came with 3 case fans. I have plenty of room for everything and used the original rear exhaust fan as a puller fan now.
Well if I feel I missed something I'll come back and edit this post. Other than that any critiquing is welcomed as this is my first build. It took me about 6 hours to build the thing from start to finish as I triple checked everything and was uber delicate. I tried my absolute best with wire management too.
Thanks for checking out "The Red Baron" and happy holidays!
