Description

I'm naming this A New Hope Edition because I plan for some considerable upgrades before calling this complete, but those will have to wait until after I get a new camcorder, car, and move out. For now this is what I have.

First things first, this is not a gaming focused build, so don't start in about how the CPU is overpowered compared to the graphics card, I know and graphics are not a priority to me, video editing speeds, stability, and overall speed are. About half of this was originally put in a Lenovo prebuilt that my dad bought before I decided to restore that to factory and build a rig from the ground up (anything priced at 0, besides the case, was in the Lenovo for at least 3 months and so I am not counting them against the cost of the build). I was on the fence about it until I got the storm stryker as a birthday present. From their on out it was just a matter of buying and building.

Since I'm anticipating questions about it... I got the memory for 46 bucks from somewhere I found on slickdeals and the SSD for 70 from microcenter or tigerdirect.

The power supply... I know it's overkill for what I have now, but I have big plans for this build down the road... At least one 7970, some Samsung 840s in RAID0, a few more hard disks, and eventually a custom water cooling kit.

An acquaintance of a friend of mine bought it and had sitting around after he switched his build idea to a 2011 motherboard and a 3930k.

With that price of a cooler, I would have gone with a xigmatek dark knight. But this build is still great!
