Description

Exactly what it says on the tin, I'm getting into streaming, editing and the like, so I needed a computer to help me do it effectively!

Part Reviews

CPU

Exactly what I was looking for, doesn't run too hot and does everything it's needed to without issue.

I was originally going to go with a quad core cpu, but I'm definitely not disappointed I decided to go for the hexacore instead!

CPU Cooler

I got the nepton for a really low price, it was a steal for how well it performs, a lot quieter than I expected!

I wish the tubes were more flexible and that I could take off the bright yellow label on the pump-motherboard connector without voiding my warranty but aside from those relatively minor things it's great

Motherboard

I really wasn't sure what to do with the motherboard, I'd been recommended the msi z97 gaming 5 and decided to go with its big brother when I made the jump to x99, no issues so far!.

Memory

It's RAM, looks nice and does what it's supposed to!

Storage

Not the fastest SSD around but the price/performance/space ratio is great even at its normal price.

Storage

Not much to say about this really, it's big and does its job.

Video Card

I had a bit of an issue with the temperature on these as I had them both right beside each other because I thought the space in my case wouldn't let me have them apart. Turns out I can just barely fit one lower down, fixed the temperatures on the cards but now my SSD runs a little hot, it's within acceptable ranges though!

The cards themselves perform amazingly, there isn't a game I've tried where having maxed out settings brings the framerate below 60. I tend to keep AA and those types of things off because I don't really notice any difference between the setting being on or not, when those settings are off I haven't seen games dip below 100 except where they're locked!

Case

I absolutely love how this case looks, it just falls short in a few other areas.

It's kind of hard to work in, the front masks a lot of the backend which makes it look nice but means putting parts in can be a bit challenging, I had to lean the case at an angle and reach my arm though the back to put in a few parts.

I wish there were more alternative mounts for SSDs and HDDs if you want to put a radiator any bigger than 140mm in push/pull you need to sacrifice all of your standard drive bays which limits you to two SSD mounts on the psu shroud which makes for a tight fit if you space out sli GPUs) and one HDD mount which is like to have cables trailing all over it as it's almost right next to the psu, It's also a pain to install as the lip on the side of the case means you need to bend your sata cables at an angle I wasn't the most comfortable doing.

Power Supply

Runs whisper quiet and cool as you like, no problems!

Operating System

Not as bad as people claim it is, I don't know my way around it fully which can make it a bit confusing, but It's absolutely fine if you're willing to take the time to learn how it works.

Case Fan

Runs quiet with great airflow and come with anti-vibration screws, but don't think you're ever going to be able to use them, after at least half an hour of struggling with one screw, I couldn't even get it all the way through the fan, nevermind through the case as well.

Leds could be brighter, but I actually like the sort of subtle look they have, personal preference.

Monitor

Haven't messed with the colour profiles at all, but I have no clue what the people claiming this monitor looks washed out are on about.

Haven't messed around with the 3d because I don't care for it and also don't want to pay the pretty high price for the kit, so no comments about that. For normal use, it's great.

Keyboard

I'm thinking about getting a keyboard with cherry MX blues, the reds are great for typing but I find myself accidentally pressing shift or A when playing games, not the keyboard's fault of course.

No problems with it so far, does exactly what I want it to.

Mouse

Amazing mouse, I was worried about going with an optical sensor over a laser, but my doubts turned out to be completely unfounded with this mouse.

Xalian submitter 1 Build 4 points 40 months ago

I might go 4k in the future but for now I'm waiting on the 1440p 144hz ips gsync screen coming out this year!

Please, please, please....don't take pictures with a potato, especially with an awesome build!

Xalian submitter 1 Build 2 points 40 months ago

I know! I don't have a non potato to take it with right now sadly, if I did I wouldn't be taking it with one :c.

Dovahuin 2 Builds 1 point 40 months ago

VERY NICE, I had a bit of a nerdgasm when I saw this build. Could you put your stream in the description when you edit it, I'm curious to see how and what you play.

Xalian submitter 1 Build 2 points 40 months ago

I'm very much just getting into the whole streaming side of things, I had the money for the build so I decided to go for it.

When I know enough about making a stream work and such enough not to make an *** of myself, I'll let you know!

Dovahuin 2 Builds 1 point 40 months ago

Well then I look forward to you starting your stream endeavors!

andrewfury 1 Build 1 point 40 months ago

Very nice build, you're going to need more storage eventually if you're rendering, I would get another 3TB of the same WD black, and do Raid 1 or 5.

Xalian submitter 1 Build 2 points 40 months ago

Will be doing this in the future!

Magnificent build. A bit curious to know how you have those fans connected. Are you using the fan splitter? I've also read some complaints from owners of these particular fans that say vibration is a big issue when they're mounted horizontally. I own a few myself but never attempted to mount them any other way for that very reason.

Xalian submitter 1 Build 1 point 40 months ago

Using the fan splitter that came with the cooler with two and after market fan splitters for the rest.

I haven't noticed any vibration issues and I'm not using the rubber screws because how are you even meant to get them through. I'm also wearing headphones and typing/moving the mouse at pretty much all times, so I might not notice it either/if I am feeling it it's not a big issue for me.

eilytres 1 Build 1 point 40 months ago

did the cooler master liquid cooler kit perform as you expected? I heard it was abit of a downside to some but i haven't looked into it myself.

Xalian submitter 1 Build 1 point 40 months ago

Works just fine for me, I haven't overclocked yet but my 5820k sits at a frosty 28 degrees at idle and doesn't get to 50 under 100% load. It was a bit of a pain to install in the front of the case, but that was more a combination of the order I installed things, the design of the case and the rubber on the fans.

I should note that I haven't used the stock cooler fans at all, so if you intend to use them I don't know what kind of performance you're going to get.

eilytres 1 Build 1 point 40 months ago

I'm using a kraken x60 atm, while my tempretures are higher it might be because my fans are running on low speed with a grid+ fan controller. i can run my fans at 3+ - 40% at most times using 4x 140mm fans (two in front and two in the topp) works great for me! :-)

jacobs4525 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

Really nice build. This thing probably will chew through every game maxed out for a few years.

Hmian 1 point 39 months ago

Hi, could you please help me? I am planning on getting the msi x99s sli plus. Do you know if there is much of a difference in the PCI slot layout? Also I'm planning on getting a h440 as well do you think I will be able to sli two gtx 970strix in it?

Xalian submitter 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

The PCI layouts are almost if not exactly identical, as far as I can tell.

You'll definitely be able to fit those in the case!

Hmian 1 point 39 months ago

Thanks a lot. Do you know of the strix is wider than the msi? Or if the msi is wider?

Xalian submitter 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

I know the STRIX is a little bigger than the MSI lengthwise, but I have no clue about width, but width isn't something that really matters too much, it's at least thing enough that you can sli two of them right next to each other.

Hmian 1 point 39 months ago

Alright, so I'll be able to sli two 970 strix? Also how was your clearance at the bottom of your case? Was there any problems with the wires due to the graphic card being at the bottom?

Xalian submitter 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

I don't see any reason you won't be able to.

My bottom card is resting on its power cables because of the PSU shroud, but it doesn't interfere with the fans and it gives it an extra bit of support to lessen sag, so no worries there.

TysonCandles 1 point 38 months ago

That. Is an abnormally large mouse pad.

Mouse pad aside, good detail on your build, and thanks for helping me decide on my PSU!

Xalian submitter 1 Build 2 points 38 months ago

Yeah it is a little large, I got it thinking that I'd be playing things on relatively low sensitivity since I'd gotten by with a trackpad until this point but it turns out I do fine at high sensitivity, I like looking at it though!

Thanks and glad I could help!

Zekrom2070 1 point 34 months ago

What kind of sound quality can I expect from the motherboard?

Xalian submitter 1 Build 1 point 34 months ago

I'm using a pair of Sennheiser PC 350 SEs with the motherboard and have absolutely no complaints.

I know that I'm 11 months late..but can you tell me where did you get your desk ? I need a desk like that because I'm putting my pc in a corner like you do !! I hope you answer. Thanks !!

Aloushi2003 1 point 21 months ago

I know this is an old build but if you want to build a new PC get 2 gtx 1070's instead of the 980's
