Description

I built this PC originally back in 2018 with the 2200g, 8gb RAM, same motherboard, an old Antec 550w PSU, 120gb Crucial SSD, 1 TB Seagate HD, and a very old beige Antec case. Slowly I had started to upgrade it with really no real job, just money from doing yard work for my parents and other people. I first added a second stick of 8gb RAM, second the Corsair 275r, then a $45 r9 290 off of Craigslist with the CX 650 for $40 brand new. So at that point I had what you would call a 'Gaming PC' with a very old, but decent graphics card. So there I was with my own gaming PC I had started dreaming about since I was around 10.

Shortly after my computer was built and running, I had wanted more FPS and better graphics. I also wanted to get an Oculus Rift sometime in the near future, so that meant I needed a better graphics card for the optimal experience. So my Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace scanning had started up again. I was searching for new graphics cards primarily. Then I had found a GTX 1060 3gb for $75. So I instantly offered the guy $70 and he accepted it. So now I had upgraded my gaming PC, but that didn't stop me. I still continued to watch for more deals.

So I wanted to try out VR, but I couldn't afford it at the time. Then my sister had said that she wanted an Oculus Rift for her birthday, but that is way to far over the budget for presents in my family. So I had talked to her about splitting the cost for one. Shortly after that my parents had said that for her birthday they would pay half of the $200 that a used Oculus Rift cost at the time. So then we got the Oculus Rift for somewhere around $200 on Ebay. That thing is so much fun and it was for sure worth the $200 that we paid.

So that brings us to about a month ago. I was going through Facebook on a Friday night and there it was, an MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X for $100. I was thinking that it was a scam or broken. I can tell you right now that it wasn't, because I am currently using it right now to type this. So that was just about the best deal I have ever seen. I wanted more storage since my dad 's 10 year old 1tb hard drive was pretty much full of stuff he wanted to keep, so I found the new XPG S40G 512gb for $59.99 on Amazon. My dad said that he would pay $40 of it since I do all of my school on my computer and didn't have much room left on the hard drive. I also recently upgraded my cooler with the Cooler Master Hyper 212. That cooler is noticeably quieter than the stock cooler that came with the 2200g.

So that's the story of my build right now. Yes, I know that my processor is way to weak for my graphics card. I will hopefully upgrade it to the 3600 next year or something like that. I also gave two of my best friends the motivation to build their own PC by giving them my old graphics cards for free. So over all, I have learned a lot from building and upgrading my setup overtime. I hope to get more people into the hobby as well. I also have to give my parents credit for providing me with the opportunity to earn money by helping them out around the yard over the past few years, but also for giving me the privilege to even have my own gaming PC.

That's a pretty sick upgrade path story man, good for you and hopefully she serves you well, way into the future. Do you think you'll upgrade the CPU at some point or not?

Great story! Love to see the next generation taking an interest in computers. So many people use technology without understanding anything about it.

Thanks, I agree with the statement that basically everyone uses some form of tech and knows almost nothing about it. I'm trying to help with that issue by teaching my friends how to build their own computers while still helping with the costs. It's actually pretty crazy because when I built my PC I started a train of friends that built their own including my uncle, 2nd cousin, cousin, and two friends. There are also two others that are now planning to build one when they have the money.

Thanks, I worked pretty hard for the two summers to earn the money for my setup. I for sure don't have any regrets.

hey man, I have this same mobo and corsair 3000 mhz, but I cant get the rma to run at the correct speed. DOPC stops windows from booting and setting it manually causes total system instability (icons missing, blakc screen, etc), did your mobo worked @ 3000 from the start?

For me it started at 2400mhz and I set it to 3000mhz. I didn't have any problems doing that.
