Description

What originally went from building a work station for basic needs has turned into a new gaming pc. I originally planned on doing a basic Pentium G3258 build with a moderate gpu, but after the H440 went on a crazy deal this thing spiraled out of control! Below is a breakdown of all parts and pricing with specifics on how the prices were obtained. All parts were bought one by one over time. So far I have been extremely happy with this build. One thing I noticed was after running Unigine Heaven I only received around 47fps on Ultra and 8x AA. I was worried at first, but after overclocking the monitor and testing it I immediately saw the performance and was thrilled! Please give any feedback good or bad!

CPU - Purchased from Microcenter as a combo deal with the motherboard. This is upgrading from a I5-3570k. Might consider it a sidegrade. I settled at 4.6GHz, but probably could go higher with changing voltage. Idle temp is without anything running. Temp under load was taken while running AIDA64.

CPU Cooler - Purchased from Tigerdirect after rebate and promo code. Had to return the first that was installed with my 3570k due to temps being extremely high. This one is on point. However, I do not think this is an upgrade versus a Cooler Master 212. Save the money and stick with the 212 or get a real water cooler.

Motherboard - Purchased with cpu from Microcenter. This was an open box buy. I was nervous but with the 15 day return I took the chance. Everything seems to be fine. BIOS is incredibly easy to navigate. Easy to see why this MB is a favorite.

Memory - Is that a price mistake?!?! Nope! I did get lucky on a portion of it though. First, TigerDirect had a deal where when buying 2x8gb ram it turned out to $69.99 after mail in rebate and promo coupon. http://slickdeals.net/f/7627164-16gb-2x8gb-pny-xlr8-ddr3-1600-desktop-memory-80-or-less-after-80-rebate-free-shipping?#comments The stick marked $0 I will cover under storage.

Storage - PNY SSD. Pfft yeah right $9.99 for a 240gb ssd! With a little luck and a lot of complaining that is indeed the price including an 8gb stick of ram. Before purchasing I had an issue with TigerDirect on a previous purchase. After dealing with below average customer service and asking for either a refund or something, they sent me an $80 credit! I used this with the deal in the following link to bring the final price down to $9.99 after credit, coupon, and mail in rebates. http://slickdeals.net/f/7411864-240-gb-pny-optima-series-2-5-sata-iii-mlc-internal-ssd-8-gb-pny-xlr8-ddr3-1600-pc3-12800-desktop-memory-bundle-94-99-ar-w-paypal-fs-tigerdirect-com

  • Seagate 3TB internal hard drive. Price after coupon and mail in rebate. It has been very reliable. Kinda stinks that after formatting it's only 2.72TB!

Video Card - This was one of the last purchases I made. I had bounced back and forth with what I wanted to do. Stick with my MSI GTX 770 2gb or upgrade to a 1440p monitor and get a new gpu. I originally was going to purchase a 970, but was waiting on a favorable price. A deal came up for this card and I pulled the trigger. It is refurbished. Again, was a bit nervous, but purchasing from Newegg and Sapphire is a trusted brand so I went for it. It does run hot! I looked into water cooling, but I can't afford it. I plan to take it apart and redo the thermal paste.

Case - Another, "that can't be the price?!" Oh yes!!! Tigerdirect had a combo deal come up with this and the 3 Cougar hydraulic bearing fans. http://slickdeals.net/f/7493688-nzxt-h440-mid-tower-case-with-window-and-cougar-hb-fan-with-red-led-bundle-49-99-using-visa-checkout-ar-fs?v=1 Incredibly fun to work with. My only gripe is the thumb screws for the side panels are a bit rough. I may attempt to plasti dip it black when spring/summer comes around.

Power Supply - Deal from Frys.com after mail in rebate and coupon. Would look better with sleeved cables, but I'll live.

Monitor - http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00QUM9L84/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all Purchased as an "off grade". I had my reservations about it, but took the plunge due to Amazon's awesome customer service and the supplier, MNW Global, having a great reputation on Ebay. Monitor was at my porch in under 72 hours from Korea! The only defect is there is a small scratch roughly a 1/2 a centimeter in the lower left corner. The only time you can notice it is when the screen is pitch black. I care not as saving $80 was more important.

Case Fans - Purchased as part of the combo deal with the NZXT H440 deal. Price after mail in rebate.

Is that NZXT H440 actually that glossy or did you MOD it? It looks pretty freaking sweet.

That is how it came. It's pretty bright and glossy so if someone is a fan of red this would be right up their alley.
