Description

This was my very first build and it was put up in 2017.

The main goal was to have a decent 4K future-proof gaming machine with an eye-candy appeal and OC chance. All the listed parts were purchased from Amazon, eBay and ePrice between July and September (2017). I could have done some more balanced choices but it works fine in the end, with a few compromises.

Part Reviews

CPU

This CPU rocks. Great performance in gaming and also great temperatures.

CPU Cooler

The performance of this cooler is more than decent, and I believe it's one of the best looking AIOs out there at the moment. My only complaint is for the software which could be easily optimized way more.

Motherboard

Beast of a motherboard. I actually wanted to pick the Code version but since it wasn't unavailable I went for this one. The Formula is your perfect OC playground and you should consider it in case you're planning a custom loop cooling system as well. Aesthetics more than satisfying.

Memory

Great looking memory. Extremely good clock speed and perfectly compatible with Asus Aura.

Storage

Very good speed in read/write. Nothing much to say about it.

Video Card

Definitely the most elegant variant of the 1080 Ti. It runs extremely hot on stock, so if you plan some OC on it, you better water cool it! The stock fan is quite noisy on load.

Of course it runs like the beast it is.

Case

This case is very good. It also includes a magnetic puck that you can use for hanging your headset which I find extremely helpful. The only thing to keep in mind is that it's EXTREMELY compact so you better be very good at cable routing and management.

Power Supply

Great quality PSU. Does its work without any problem. Very quiet.

Operating System

No issues so far with this OS. It has an interesting "gaming mode" that actually provides a better performance during heavy gaming sessions.

The free upgrade from Windows 8.1 was a nice to have.

Monitor

This is a great 4K monitor for its price. It comes with integrated speakers as well.

Headphones

Amazing quality from Sennheiser as usual. It comes with a very handy 3.5mm Y-splitter jack so you can plug it wherever you want. Amazing sound quality and extremely good performing microphone.

Highly recommended.

Speakers

Nothing special about these speakers. I got them because of aesthetics. Quality is mediocre. They come with an AUX input port.

Other

This pad is BIG.

I like it a lot because it has pure black surface with discrete white CM logos on it. Very low profile and quality tissue. Highly recommended.

Other

Great webcam. Blue leds are on when it's in use so keep it in mind if lighting/color is important to you. Amazing microphone and video quality, but the software could be improved a bit more.

Other

This is more than necessary if you're putting LED fans. You're gonna need those ports. Powered by molex.

Other

Great looking fans and the controller can be managed via NZXT's CAM software, which is not very optimized but still does its job. The only thing I would rant about is that the lights transitions are all stuttering and definitely not smooth if you're using an animated profile. Static color is more than fine, though.

Other

This keyboard is beautiful and HEAVY. Get ready for that sweet mechanical key noise. If you'd like a silent or not too loud keyboard do NOT buy this one. Otherwise, go for it. Great software and full RGB support.

Other

Does its job fairly. Very handy if you still have to work with some CDs.

Nice build, but temp on cpu seems high for stock speeds? My 7700k at 5ghz at 1.354 volts on a custom loop doesnt come near that, even when i had it on my h115, definitely check out the paste, besides that clean build,

I totally forgot to mention that I’m running at 4.6, but you’re right, I should check the paste. Thank you.

Even at 4.6 im guessing around 1.250ish volts wouldn't be that high on temps
