Purple Dragon! No no, too tacky.... This is my first build and I want you guys to name it. Okay, into the actual build. I've been building, rebuilding, starting completely over, for the last year and a half. I wanted something that will last a minimum of 4-6 years and be basically VR ready. The other hard-(ish) thing was making the white and blue work. I got as best as I could manage and with the LED's I think it works nicely. (It's not like I'll be submitting this into contests and I like it)
i7-4790k I needed something that was going to be able to handle some decently heavy gaming, streaming, and multitasking. I originally went with an i5 but decided that the i7 wasn't THAT much more expensive and my parents are buying this as a graduating high school gift so I wanted to make sure I could make the most of this thing.
Cryorig H7 CPU Fan Originally went with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 but when I asked Reddit for a final word before buying the parts they recommended the H7 as a similar alternative while keeping my color scheme in tact.
ASRock Z97 MoBo I decided on this mobo to keep the color scheme as well as an OC capable board for the future. Not much to say here.
16gb G.Skill DDR3-1600 RAM Again, nothing too fancy. Just keeping the blue and white theme. Will eventually add on to this as needed. (Yes I paid too much for RAM. Oh well.
850 EVO 500gb Okay, this SSD was a last minute change. Some might say it's unnecessary to get a 500gb drive but it wasn't that much more expensive than the 250gb I originally planned on getting. The fun part about this (and the hard drive, fans, and PSU) is that Amazon sent me two of each when I only ordered one, yes I contacted Amazon and we were able to keep it. So I now have a 500gb SSD for back up.
3TB HDD This was also a last minute decision to get 3TB instead of 2. Not a huge difference but I have movies and games that can use the space (considering that I got 2 of these I'm not sure whether I should set them up as a combined drive or just use the second one as a constant back up mirrored drive.)
GTX 980 SC ACX2.0 Now to the fun stuff. I got this over the 970 because I wanted to be VR ready. I understand that the 1080 and 1070 are coming out but I've decided that I don't NEED that right now. The 970 would work for VR but at the very minimum end of the spectrum so I decided on the 980 to be safe.
Fractal Design Define R5 I got this case because the wire managing already built into this is amazing from what I've seen and the price is ehhh decent I guess. I also love the simple design, extreme mod-ability, and best of all, it's "silent". Most of my parts were chosen to be quiet since this PC will be sitting less than 3 feet from my mic (At 2035). I know that it won't be totally quiet but I'm hoping it's not as loud as my old laptop was.
EVGA 750W Back to the boring stuff. This was chosen for the eco mode, full modular design, and good for the money. Again, since I have 2 of these I plan on saving this for a future build or for a friend.
FANS TBD Accidentally got 120mm fans because they were blue, and quiet. We'll see if I need them. I really want all the fans to be the exact same so I'll most likely end up buying more fractal silent fans.
NZXT HUE+ Obviously these are my case lights. They look clean and are easy to customize. Expensive but will last.
