Description

This is a before and after of my upgraded PC build off of a p8p67 deluxe with a 2500k and 16gb of RAM. I kept the psu(hx850)/gpu(980ti)/hdd(5tb)/ssd(840 pro 256gb) from the old system. For ****'s and giggles and I went ahead and added the rest of the hardware that I have hooked up to the current PC to the list and threw on whatever lowest retail price for a total build price.

The photo(edit: now at the end of the photo list) is a before and after of the gruesome guts of my old machine verses the new, old system was mostly 5 years or so old so screw it, it was time. It looks like I changed from a SLI build but that's just an old gtx670 in the old photos for the random physx games. You can see my choices have wised up a bit, new PC is so so much more clean. Firestrike scores increased by about 4k after fiddling with over-clocks on the first day.

I can post a few more photo's if people want(edit: done!), but I don't expect anyone will see this, didn't really get much mid-build photo's due to the NZXT Kraken x61 water cooler being WAY more of a ***** to install in the s340 than I thought it would be. It just barely fits in this config and I had to get just a little creative on the screw situation.

Pretty happy overall now that everything is said and done with. The actual cost for the upgrade today was just over $1040 for the new mobo/cpu/cooler/case/RAM. The rest of the cost is put in over the years. I recently bought the HTC Vive and that inspired me to finally kick the 5-6 year old core of my PC to the curb and build a new one. Temps and everything are running great.

edit: Added some more pics, going in order of old PC to new with the comparison shot at the end. Thanks Everyone!

It was still buzzing along pretty well to be honest, but it felt like it was on edge for some of the things I was doing though its still a hell of a CPU for its age. Also I didn't like not having any CPU headroom during heavy stuff anymore. Could have been a little beat up from years of abusive overclocking though heh. I was mostly just itching to upgrade the heart of the system after 5 years, and couldn't stand to look at that travesty of a case/wire situation anymore and I could never get it to look clean.

Some of the stuttering I was experiencing in Vive games is gone after OC'ing now though so I was at least able to feel some improvement while cleaning up and updating. Though the be fair the stuttering was probably from lack of game optimization, but I like having the system power to brute force through some bad optimization if I need to.
