Description

I had my trusty dell inspiron 17 with an i7 and a gtx 650M for a good amount of time. It served me well to work and to do some light gaming... but it was now time to move on from laptop and console gaming. That is why back in August I started looking to build my first machine. At first i wanted to build an i7 /gtx 980ti build ...but i soon realized that this was overkill for my needs (for now anyway) since i only game, browse internet, and program. however im studying in it so i wanted a decent "workstation" wich looked good because it is in my room. After watching/reading countless guides (wich was overkill) and doing a ton of research, I ordered my parts from newegg (exept the noctua fans and one of the ssds ). The build when pretty smooth.

Things i already had laying around

  • A tp-link wi-fi card wich seems better than the onboard chip.
  • A 250 gb hard drive.
  • My logitech g502 mouse ...simply the best mouse ever. Super confy (even for troll hands ), has a great sensor and a amazing software.

Cpu/Mobo I went for a skylake buils right when it came out, limiting my mobo choices especially in the ones without red (i hate red ) and i didin't wanted to pay 300$ for a motherboard. the cpu does the job and rus really cool. The mobo dosent sli and is a bit too brown.

the cooler when for an AIO mainly for the look. It keeps my cpu at good temps. The only complain i have is about the fans .... the stock fans are so loud (even at 600-900 rpm ) that they nearly gave me cancer...thy were replaced by noctua ones within a week.

the storage i started with the 1tb wd Black and one of the ssd for my os. I later added a 250 gb segate drive for my VM. last week i bought an other ssd (it was/is super cheap on newegg), I intend to put both my ssds in raid 0 wich should be safe with regular backups.

the case pros: easy to build in... looks amazing. cons: NO place for wires in the back of the motherboard ... the plastic window seem cheap

I am a bit ashamed of that rat nest...and of the hockey tape (sorry...yes im canadien)

psu I chose it for the good review, posibility to expand, all black cables and 10 years warranty

the periferals The monitor is perfect for gaming (especially csgo)...144hz is love ...144hz is life The k7xx is basicaly the most confortable pair of headphones ever the mod mic sounds great and is detachable the k95 is great for gaming and coding, looks really good and is full of fonctionalities

the GPU it is perfect... i never heard it, OC well and stay cool, runs everythig i trew at it in 1080P at ultra

I got windows 8.1 for free ...had it on dreamsparks

Later this year my brother has plans to get his first build so i might give him a good prive in my cpu/ mobo so i can upgrade (6700k?/new gen cpu?) I might look into getting decals when im tired or the case's clean look

I am also looking for a lighting solution. the nzxt hue+ seems perfect but a bit on the pricie side...what would you recommand

please comment any question, suggestions, critics... any feedback is appreciated

sorry for the bad spelling and the laziness ...english is not my first language, + i wrote all my text ...the it earased by accident so it is my second time tiping it.

...also sorry for the more or less potato quality images

the photos are all in chronological order so you can see the progression of the build/ updates

Damn that's one powerful PSU for a non SLI setup and why the WD Black? Could've spam about $10 more and gotten a 2TB Seagate Hard Drive. But overall very nice build +1

I know it is a powerfull psu...I had planed for a 750w one at first (way enough for future proofing) but someone advised me to go for 850w instead anyway their is à 10 year waranty in this thing ....if I ever upgrade my setup later, when I have more space, I might go for multi monitor or 1440p 144hz for curved monitor (if they ever get cheaper)...i could add a second gpu. For the wd black it was for 5 year waranty (and higher reliability?)...

The MSI Z170(A) Krait Gaming would have been a great choice for a mobo.

change your MoBo to a asus z170-a it fits the new skylake CPUs and it will look sick with the white case.

I have a Kraken x61 which has stock fans that are nice and quiet (I believe they're the same ones that come with the case) Plus they look way better than the Corsair ones. Maybe swap when you give some stuff to your brother.

i swaped for noctua fans ...they are the best in my opinion...the only thing is that they are ugly .....wich i dont care since they are hiden
