Description

Story This computer started out with an i5 4430 8gb of ram no gpu no sound card no ssd running arch Linux. Then on thanksgiving we celebrate my moms and my birthday so it's just one event. So it was black Friday and my uncle had just given me a 250 dollar gift card to best buy and we went to best i had a few gpu to choose from, i narrowed my choices down to the r9 270x and the nvidia 760 the 760 was 90 more at best buy so i choose the r9 270x. So I went home and popped it in my PC and installed windows 7. Next day I get battlefield 4 and I was shocked at how it performed in games the graphics looked so good at ultra even on my 5:4 screen. Next day I believe it was, I was playing battlefield at like midnight and my parts said I could go to best buy and choose any two items i wanted at the store. I started thinking what i wanted and before when I went I was feeling the mechanical keyboard and I loved the feel of the keyboards and my mouse was awful too so choose the razer keyboard and mouse. Then comes Christmas first thing I get is the headset and love the thing because I hated having my headphone break so I said I'll put this on the top, because i wasted money headphone before. Next I get a blu ray drive which I use a lot for dvd rips and movie watching. The next thing I got was an SSD which i get great boot times with. The next thing I got was a sound card to see what my headphones could really do and oh my god I didn't know what I was missing, It drives them so flawlessly. The next upgrade was debated with my father because I originally wanted to get the 8 core amd but he was too into it then I found this deal at microcenter the i7 was 250 and the board was 55 and 40 with the rebate we didn't get thank you msi. In gaming I didn't get over 10 fps increase but in rendering and encoding and compiling it made a huge difference I still shocked at how fast it is. Next I upgraded the monitor since I was using a monitor that was 1280x1024 5:4 nearing almost 10 years old so I decided it was time for an upgrade so I went to sams with my father and was looking at monitor I saw this monitor was 180 on newegg and 130 in store so I got in store. Next I got 8gb of ram since I was using more than 8gb and one of the guys my dads work said the ram upgrade would help so I got 8 more gb of ram. The next upgrade was more fans, so my brother was going to radioshack so I went with him and got two thermaltake fans they said they were 21dba they were not so I built a fan controller with a dpdt 3 position switch its setup like 5v off 12v it works good and it stays cool.

Upcoming Upgrades More hard drive space building pc case desk Uses Gaming Encoding videos Programming Compiling DVD/BLU RAY rips that are legal school Auto cad Virtualization and much more Overclocks Ram 1866 Before you say in the comments you wasted money on this or that. It's not a waste of money if the user is happy with the component. I'm happy with all components expect I want a bit more hard drive space

For the added space that you want, I highly suggest looking at the Seagate 1 TB Hybrid drives. I'm using one for additional space with my OS on a SSD. They are amazing performance to price ratio. It might be exactly what you're looking for.

Nice build, keep on keepin on.

That is probably the best route. I myself use a 120gb ssd for my os and core applications, a 500gb drive for my games, and a 2tb drive for downloads and other media. Makes it easy to reformat a drive to maintain it without reinstalling your os.
