Description

I built this to run a home media server (Plex) that contains my entire DVD collection and security camera software (iSpy). Hence the huge amount of storage. :)

if you were running a server, wouldnt you need special memory or something? or am i wrong?

Nah... my understanding is that "server RAM" is built for stability (it is able to correct parity errors and thus is less prone to crash and lose data). PC/Desktop RAM is built for speed.

I am assuming this is a media server in the same way that adding an extra drive to your router can act as a server, or that one can use windows homegroups, or NAS.

Why windows Ultimate? Why 4 1tb drives instead of 2 2tb drives?

Ultimate comes with a lot of useful tools.

Writing and reading from the same drive reduces performance drastically. I assume it's because he wants to watch DVDs and write camera footage at the same time.

Are you running those drives in a RAID config?

Redu your cable management so you can have more airflow in that pc, going to blow heat everywhere making that pc very warm than usual and have a better improvement for your server.
