Description

Gaming and a fun project to mod a mac pro case into a ATX board supported case. One nice piece about the build is I was able to find the pinout from the original G5 front panel connector. The wires were sodered to more modern mobo cables for power switch, etc. The front panel works as it did OEM except for firewire.

Any questions about the build please let me know. Happy to take pics or explain.

If anyone is interested in the mountain mods tray you can find it here:

Nice job; cool idea! IDK but I think the inside could have been a bit cleaner with the cable management :). Good job with the case though.

Thanks! uploaded a new picture old PSU i need a lot more cables and it wasn't modular. I cleaned it up a bit but since there is just so little space between the PSU and the rad its tough to cable manage it. I can't really get cables underneath the mountain mods tray to hide them its honestly not enough room and I don't want to risk them getting stuck underneath.

With the twin 120s on the front and the fans on the rad pulling air through and out to the twin 80s in the back it surprisingly flows air decently. And the case being mesh helps.

Really attractive. Seems like a slightly underpowered motherboard for Crossfire'd 290x and 32 gigs of RAM.

I would agree w/ you. But I picked up the mobo and a g3258 pentium I used in another server application for 70 dollars together. Maybe eventually I'll replace it but I'm still seeing 60FPS or more in Battlefield 4 in Eyefinity across my 3 screens. in Ultra w/ 2x MSAA and HBAO settings. Pretty much maxed out.

Limiting factor seems that the second PCI-e only runs 2.0 not 3.0. But I read a lot on it and seems maybe i'm loosing 5-8%? Not enough to make me want to upgrade. I recommend the project if you can get a G5 case. The mountain mods tray was really high quality.

Was a little close I agree. Wasn't in any danger. Swapped them out now for 2 LG Ultrawides.
