Description

Well, if you look at my past builds I managed to sell off my gaming MATX, and the weird gaming APU ITX build. So I decided it was time to upgrade my home server and my personal rig.

This is my Home server build. It's uses are as follows: 1. sickbeard, couchpotato, sabnzbd set up. 2. Serve files to my other computers. 3. Become a network attached drive to back up all important files from all the computers.

After a long hard life being overclocked to 4.5 ghz on the stock cooler, forced to have 16 tabs of chrome open, and play demanding games, I decided to go ahead and retire the G3258 and let it live a much easier and simpler life In my new home server.

CPU: Loved it as my daily driver CPU, love it even more as my file server CPU. Room doesn't get as hot as it did with the A8-6600k. I have not noticed any bogging down. So I am Happy.

MB: Kept it because of the 6 SATA 6GBS ports. Liked the Blue Color and haven't had any issues with it since the last PC it was in.

Case: Fell in love with it the day it came out, Finally pulled the trigger after it went on sale. I love the way it separates the drives and the MB. Building in it is a dream. I gave zero Fugs about cable management in the back but the front still looks awesome and no issues with the airflow in the case.

HD: Need lots of storage for my pr0n and movies, tv shows and important files.

SSD: Meh, why not, had it laying around

Memory: Huge fan of the Fury series...great price and even better looks IMO.

Hope You enjoyed this build

Only 16 tabs on chrome? I have over 100 open regularly on my g3258, even at stock it works fine though.

You could underclock it to save power, I did that to try running mine passively, the silence was so nice

Yeah I'm incredibly happy with the noise and how cool this runs. I'm on stock clocks, stock fan, and have the fan controller on low and I can't hear the PC.

A8-6600K??.. I just bought a 3258 and msi z97 pc mate motherboard. Finally getting rid of my A8-5600k. With the z97 motherboard leaves me open to upgrades later this summer. Was gonna go FX but thats a dead end route lol. Also, im sure my radeon 7950 will love the 3258 OC'd way better than this A8-5600k __^

Why not go with WD Reds? Price?

I had the WD greens from a previous build. That being said since this MB has 6 data connectors my next stage is to gradually replace the 2 TB greens for 4 TB reds. Although I honestly believe that the reds are overkill for a home server
