Description

Built this machince for one purpose- Gaming, specifically Battlefield (3 + 4).

This was my first build. Everything was smooth overall, computer started up on first try. The case was easy to work with and made for very easy wire management. Took some time to figure out the fan controls but otherwise had no issues.

Loved the asus board, perfect fit. Very happy overall with the build.

Being my first build I have small regrets.

First- SHould have gone two sticks of 8 instead of 4 sticks of 4 memory.
Second- Skip the standard hardrive and just gone with a bigger SSD, I don't use a lot of storage.

I plan to add another 690 this fall for BF4 and to go with a three monitor set up soon as I sell my old computer.

*Purchased all materials from Amazon and Newegg, everything went very well. Order 1 hardrive from NCIX they messed the order up and shipped it ground and for some reason required a signature. I will not use them again.

Trying to make a long term killer machine, and I did well with some stock options ; ) also by buying it part by part I was able to sneak the total cost past the woman I am related to by marriage.

LOVE the case. More of a full tower, it's huge. Made the build easy.

If a 7990 ran BF4 on a 3K Monitor and still got somewhere around 60fps I don't think you'll need another 690 for it once it's released. Otherwise, this build is pretty good.

It was two 7990s, though with the 3k monitor and unoptimized code, a single 690 will probably still be good for triple monitors, though if OP is getting SLI 690s, I'm wondering why they went with 2700k and Z77. X79 is far better for multiple GPUs.

7990's and 690's ARE dual GPUs. One 7990 is two 7970s and one 690 is two 680s.

Is two underclocked* 680s

OP is getting a second 690, I never said anything about multiple GPUs as in two GPUs per card.

You missed the point.. Since a 690 is two GPUs, it uses SLI. That means it WOULD benefit from x79 before he added the second one. I'm saying he should have gone x79 even if he wasn't planning on getting another 690.

x79 is only beneficial when you have more than one GPU. Two GPUs on one card doesn't count because they are already sharing one PCIE x16 slot. That will be the bottleneck no matter how many extra lanes x79 has. Having extra PCIE lanes on an x79 only helps if you are using up the lanes in an actual SLI or Crossfire configuration where two different PCIE x16 slots are used. He definitely should have gone x79 because he is planning on using two cards in two different x16 sltos. But if he stuck with just one 690, the only benefit the x79 platform would have given is if he paired it with a SB-E processor that was more powerful than the 2700K.

How do you like the case? How is Windows 8? My friend has it and hates it. Why did you go with a 2700K? why not a 3770K? Why do you regret 16Gb of ram? Other than that it looks great. And if you're into BF, why don't you have a **** bucket?

I have the same case just the sliver one and it's a great case lots of airflow, easy to build because of the room inside. The only real downside is that is kind of big and can be heavy once all the parts are in. And as for Windows 8 once you get the some like http://startisback.com/ is back on there I really like 8.

Windows 8 is fine, installed http://startisback.com/ as recommended by NUclearD3 and it is basically Window 7 with a weird start menu.

As for the processor, my computer was much more budget initially than it ended up.

Ram- Just wish I got two sticks instead of 4.

And BF... PROMOTED!!

scrolled all the way down the comments so I could say the same thing... fair play for being the only other person to notice!

dude... you don't need to add another 690 to play bf4, one gtx 690 is overkill, even if you were going with 3 monitors, you don't need more cores you need more video memory and technically you only have 2gb

correction a 690 with stated Vram has the stated Vram its only in SLI / Crossfire when the Vram doesn't combine.

Did he advise against a Titan? I would have gone with a Titan simply because you can get more of a benefit through SLI (I think), though I may be 100% totally wrong.

Either way, this is a friggin' beast of a computer :)

Now when is this being shipped to me. If you feel that's too risky, you can send me some money on PayPal. Just hit me up and we'll talk addresses/account numbers. Thanks!

I7 for gaming? I5 is on par while costing less, very few games uses those extra threads the i7 has. Even with an i5 I doubt it will actually bottleneck a 690. Can't future proof because Haswell is around the corner.

Nope you are better off using 4x4 ram than 2x8. This way you have quad channel, you say it's for gaming only so there are zero benefits of adding another 16GB if that was your plan, you might as well fold a $100 bill in the shape of a RAM stick and shove that in haha.

Any thoughts on the Seidon 240M? I'm looking to buy that same CLC to replace the Hyper 212 Evo.

Great build!

Love love love your machine.. Exact reason I'm building a rig, BF3+4! I can't wait, it's been since 2005. Do you have any YouTube or videos of it in action? Yours seems to be my favorite outline I've seen so far! :D

Cheers! (Blue and White looks pristine!)
