Description

More photos will be uploaded. Pictures aren't that great as of now!

-The Hyper 212 Evo fits the Z87n board, but the heatsink will have to be turned 90 degrees or else the fins will be blocking the GPU slot. Also only one fan can be used because the second fan will block the PCIE slot as well.

NOTE: By doing this, the base pipes of the heatsink will be touching a few capacitors on the motherboard (see one of the pictures). I looked up if this would be a problem and it seems like it should be fine. It is just a slight touch and the caps are not being bent or moved.

-I'm not absolutely sure if normal-height ram heatsinks will fit, but definitely go with low-profile ones just to be safe on this and other mini-ITX boards.

-The new R9 280X looks really tempting.

Cool build! Hope your enjoying your self.

If you happen to find a Corsair H60 on sale, you may want to consider swaooing the H212 for it so as to keep the airflow in your case consistent.

Other than that, very nice build. I'm a sucker for SFF. :)

Thanks buddy! Noise was a big concern and I heard most of the water coolers are quite loud so I choose the 212 Evo. I have the older 212 plus at home and I was quite happy with it :)

DAYUM look at that CPU cooler, wtf man...lol. It's flippin huge.

I bet yours will perform better than mine, but mine looks prettier...teehee.

Great build man, good prices/choices. I think you got max bang for your buck! Add a HDD if you haven't already, you will need more storage for sure!

kwkevinlin submitter 1 Build 2 points 59 months ago

It IS super huge compared to the mini-ITX board haha. I have a 1tb WD drive lying around that I will be installing when I do a small modification soon.

how's that monitor working out for you?

kwkevinlin submitter 1 Build 1 point 59 months ago

It's pretty good. The colors are good and the stand is extremely sturdy (quite heavy as well!); it also tilts quite well and is very maneuverable. The only con which I was pretty disappointed in was that -- despite some of the comments saying otherwise -- the speakers are really just normal monitor speakers. They are pretty muddy and generally very closed-in and bad.

rakenrol14 2 points 59 months ago

i think it's a given on any built in speaker. have you tried gaming on it yet? i'm more curious to know what you think of it as a gaming monitor. i'm leaning towards IPS instead of 120hz monitors. thanks for the response!

I'm the same way right now. Update us, OP!

kwkevinlin submitter 1 Build 1 point 59 months ago

I play BF3 alot (waiting for BF4 on Thanksgiving weekend) and I'm pretty satisfied right now! I have never tried 120 hz so I cannot comment on the fluidity difference, but I am pretty happy with the response rate and picture quality.

Awesome!

if you've got the budget for it, the korean PLS monitors like the Qnix 2710 give you the best of both worlds

kwkevinlin submitter 1 Build 1 point 59 months ago

Yea, the Qniz/X-Star monitors look great! I considered those as well, but the 27" monitors would simply take up too much space. There's actually a new model coming, I asked customer support one day haha

Any reason why you went mITX?

kwkevinlin submitter 1 Build 2 points 59 months ago

Solely for the Prodigy. Didn't want to have a traditional tower (definitely not full tower). I'm on a college campus and I have to move in and out every year; plus the Prodigy does look quite unique!

The only thing that I really don't like (that the Prodigy M could fix) was that there are no PCI slots available other than for the graphics card. I have a Xondar D2 audio card and now I am forced to use my USB DAC instead (which isn't bad, but definitely not as convenient sometimes).

How has your experience been with the Toshiba Q Series SSD? I used it once and it seemed unstable with SATA 6Gb/s.

kwkevinlin submitter 1 Build 1 point 59 months ago

I'll try to upload a screenshot of the benchmark when I modify my PC soon. The speed is quite fast for a 128gb drive, but the 4kb random write bench seems a little off (low). I only benched it twice in the same day within a few minutes so we'll see if that changes when I bench it again soon.

That seems to pretty well match my results. It makes a decent SSD for SATA 3Gb/s though.

Pretty nice! love the case, the processor and the GPU (same as mine hehehe) Congrats!

Glad to see more people using the Team Vulcan memory.

Is there a problem with the 212 EVO back-plate and the circuitry around the holes on the back of the board?

How is the clearance on that? Did you have to make some adjustments/preparation to accommodate the back-plate?

wrecklaimer 1 Build 1 point 56 months ago

The space between the optical drive bay and the power ports on the graphics card look like a tight fit... did you end up having to remove the bay holder? I have the same case and am planning on that 760. The PCI-E connectors on my PSU cables don't look too flexible at the ends, either.

kwkevinlin submitter 1 Build 1 point 54 months ago

It is kind of a tight fit, but there is definitely no need to remove the bay holder. I had to bend it a bit, but nothing extreme or unreasonable.

There's a small plastic foam underneath it, but thanks for the headsup! I'll be uploading more photos soon when I modify it a bit.
