Description

So I built this pc a year ago my first ever pc build. I had a completed build on here for it but idk what happened to it so I thought I’d do another one and add some small updated to it as well as my experience with it since I’ve had a whole year to play around with it. First off I love it I could just stare at it for hours. I cancelled my ps plus subscription and haven’t touched my PS4 in a year I do use the PS4 controller along with ds4 for windows at it works great my Astro a40 tr with mix amp works great with the pc as well. But my main goal for this was to build a beast of a machine that I wouldn’t have to upgrade for a few years and also make it beautiful in the process with out breaking the bank to much. So far I’ve added an ssd, mechanical keyboard with cherry mx blues, gpu support bracket couple rgb strips and tweeted out on the fan settings so it purrs and dosent scream. Everything has been working pretty much flawlessly except my cpu temps have risen about 5 degrees Celsius since last year they were running about 65c not there creeping up to 70c and random spikes up to 81c so don’t know if I need to reapply thermal paste or the aio isn’t as efficient as it was a year ago other than that this pc along with all these parts have given me no issues and I’ve been able to enjoy plenty of gaming this past year. I would recommend any of these parts to anyone considering there compatible with their platform. I think a new case and custom water cooled loop will be next upgrade to it preferably with hardline but we’ll have to see about that I’ve never done a custom loop before but there pretty damn sexy. Also I had a 144hz 1080p monitor when I first built it for about a week and returned it and got a 144hz 1440p what a difference idk what I was thinking getting a gtx1080 and only making it push 1080p

Part Reviews

CPU

No complaints with his handles anything I throw at it I’ve gotten it to run stable at 5.0ghz but chose to leave it on it factory auto overclock to 4.5ghz I don’t need all the FPS it has to offer I just want it to be able to last with the rest of my system

Motherboard

Woh idk why this 450$ on the list I got it for less than 250$If I remember correctly but this is a great motherboard just wish I waited for the next gen one for the 8th gen cpus with addressable rgb outputs but what can you do this you can never keep up with new pc parts there always coming out with something better

Storage

Great ssd boy what a difference this thing made switching from a standard hdd

Storage

Dose what it’s suposed to haven’t had any issues with it

Video Card

This things a beast stays pretty cool for just the stock air cooler on it I can run any game on ultra setting with little tweeks and get about 100fps at 1440p. When I first got it lasted about a day and died on me. Contacted new egg and got a replacement through them within a few days. No issues with it since

Case

For a cheap case you can’t beat it sure it has an acrylic window but it’s layout is one of my favorites simple clean with lots of room looks beautiful once everything inplace and lit up

Power Supply

Stayed quiet and gives me all the power I need

Case Fan

Beautiful powerful fans not the quietest but I really like them wish I didn’t need the controller for full customization

Monitor

Great monitor had it for a little over a year and no issues whatsoever ever

Keyboard

Great keyboard love the individual lighting customization and the clickeyness of the cherry mx blues won’t touch another membrane keyboard ever again

Headphones

Originally bought these for my PS4 when they first came out but there still working great sure there’s better ones out there but until these start giving me problems why upgrade I can hear everything I need to just fine

Why do people still use the term "console killer" xD

Most "budget" gaming pc's will have hardware far superior to the latest gen consoles but that's to be expected, they're nearly 5 years old!

Squaric submitter 1 Build 2 points 9 months ago

Because I wanted to use that term. And this pc literally killed my love for my console.

BetrayedPredator 2 points 9 months ago

Also they cost x10 as much

I can buy a PS4 for $250 or less, and it comes with a controller, then you need any old monitor / tv which is like $100.

Lets say $400 total for a console 'rig' that is using stuff that came out years ago, vs this one being $2600 with new-ish hardware

Ah the PCMR crowd is wonderful, but I understand it some days

You can build a low-end PC for around $550-700 and still outperform consoles in every aspect. The only reason that consoles still exist is because of their reduced prices through bulk purchasing of hardware and small form factors, and simplicity. If you are a true gamer, you should opt-in for a PC.

If you are a true gamer, you should opt-in for a PC.

And that is the issue

Some people just want to sit on a couch with a controller and play games, guess that because they can't afford or don't want a PC that they aren't true gamers? If you are a gamer, play what you want to play on the system you want.

Some days I do miss the ability to easy grab a controller and lay on a couch that you get on consoles, and the gameplay is generally fair (before someone says I can do it on PC). Both have pros and cons

Well, then that isn't considered a "true gamer", that would be a casual gamer. If you just hop on for fun, you should go for a console. Some people still play console, even for competitive use, which is okay, but using a PC for that scenario would be easier because of non-locked frame rate, customize-able graphics, etc. Also, you can use a controller on PC if you are more comfortable with that.

It's only a console killer if it's around the same price point and also performs better.

But I'd say it's a good build anyway

Squaric submitter 1 Build 0 points 9 months ago

Well all my PlayStation consoles combined 1-4 when bought new equal about the same amount lol and thank you

First, very nice PC build. I'd stare at it all the time, too. Second, the interesting debate your use of the term console killer has engendered in the comments. For me personally, a console killer is a living or TV room based PC that takes the place of a game console but serves the same entertainment purposes. In other words, a substitute. You view it as something that literally killed off your like of consoles. That was also a side effect on me as well but I personally can't go back to the desk and monitor setup myself, it's just way too comfortable being in the living room.

Squaric submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Thanks a lot man. Yea this is my first desktop set up and I love it I’ve played on the couch to much with all my old consoles it was time for a change for me. Haha yea everyone has there own interpretation for things and this is my own interpretation of what I think a console killer is

local_troublemaker 1 point 9 months ago

What is your CPU temperature?

Squaric submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

It’s up to like 67c-70c and spikes up to 81c when playing forza horizon 3 on ultra settings used to hold steady at 64c or even lower than that I built it during the summer last year and those were the temps when I first had it up and running

Yes I have I’ve watched videos with great results also. Honestly kinda forgot about that option until you brought it up. Defiantly going to be considering it if these temps don’t get better with some new thermal paste
