This is a continuation of my Bloodworks PC. This time I upgraded to an Intel i9 7980XE. Before putting it in my system I of course delided it. I also went from a Rampage VI Apex to a Rampage VI Extreme and to compensate the lower power pin count I got an EK Monoblock to watercool my VRMs as this CPU can pull 600W+ at load. Overclocking this beast has been incredibly fun the 7980XE is the best overclocker I have ever had which is insane considering that it's an 18 core CPU. I can get it up to 4.8Ghz on all cores at 1.255V. The CPU Z score is 13,000 multi core and 571 single core. For comparison a stock Threadripper 1950X scores 8,696
I do have to say that the memory controller on these HCC chips seems to be noticeably weaker than the LCC chips. My 64GB kit of Trident Z could hit 3800 on my 7900X but only gets 3650mhz on this CPU. Watercooling the VRM does seem to make my overclocks more stable compared to people air cooling their Rampage I think it's more likely that having my VRM full power instead of spread spectrum is helping my overclock more than my CPU just happening to be some god overclocker. Temps are around 40c idle and 85c load which goes to show how much power this chip pulls because most people watercooling their X299 VRMs get around 60c at load. Overall I think this upgrade was defiantly worth it as my raw multi core performance is up more than 80% compared to my 7900X.
