Description

The PC is used primarily for gaming/office work. I wanted everything to colour match in this build so I went for black and white. I also choose these parts as it gives me upgrade options in the future so I can change to an i7 and new gpu when I need it. Also will be overclocking the G3258 to around 4.0GHz. Haven't encountered any problems so far. Any comments/recommendations are welcome!

Update : OC'd CPU to a stable 4.0Ghz with stock cooler running on 1.125V

Nice looking build! I'm curious about why you chose behind the Pentium? I know it's a great entry-level processor but I'd be concerned about the fact that games coming out now seem to require a quad-core as a minimum requirement.

nah, I have seen a 750ti + g3258 clocked at 4.5 Ghz run fallout at around 50-60 fps no problem. only game that im aware of that has issues is GTA 5 with its sh***y update that caused stutters everywhere.

Oh right, are the minimum requirements based on the clock speed then rather than the number of cores? (Apologies for my ignorance!)

im not really sure how to explain this very well. best way I can put it is this: higher Ghz= better CPU speed.

cores only really matter if what ever you are doing NEEDS more cores to handle it. like rendering and anything with hyperthreading. the g3258 has no hyperthreading if im remembering correctly.

Okay, I think I'll have to read more into it, thanks!

Hi, the reason for choosing the G3258 Pentium is that overclocked it is extremely capable while still remaining at a budget price point. the LGA1150 socket also leaves me with options to upgrading to say an i5 or i7 in the future but for £50 you really cant argue with the performance. I'm just getting into PC gaming so have bought games like CS:GO, Bioshock series, Witcher 2 etc which the G3258 handles well!
