Description

This was an update from my first rig. It traded that 1440p-60fps on a budget sweetspot for something with a little more showmanship and power. Is it unnecessary? Yes. But is it good? **** yes. Can it run Crysis? It'll destroy it.

Things that remained the same: MSI Z170A Tomahawk AC G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB Corsair H60 Samsung 850 Pro + Seagate Barracuda Evga Supernova G2 650W Asus VX24AH Monitor.

Things that got changed and why: Case: Corsair 100R to a Thermaltake View 27. Why? Because firstly that 100R was a little problematic in my situation mainly regarding small size and clearance, making a lot of things difficult. But also because I wanted that showmanship. I love the look of this case, the gull wing window and the ability to mount your graphics card fans faced front. It's also much bigger and I've gotten no space issues with it so far.

CPU: i6 6600K to i7 6700K. The most pointless upgrade here, by far. I just wanted the 6700K from the outset but couldn't afford it at the time, and was very impressed by that i5, which I overclocked to equal the 6700k's base clock. But now I think this is much better for my video editing for the family.

Graphics Card: GTX-1070 Founders Edition to EVGA GTX-1080 FTW. Why? Because **** yeah that's why. It became possible so I did it. And despite this whole overblown debacle, I chose the FTW as in my opinion that's the best 1080 you can get, especially given how safe it is to own with EVGA's customer service. The temps are much better on it too, when it is mounted normally. If I use my case's fancy mounting capability though, there is little airflow in front of the fans and hence the whole card gets about 10deg C hotter. That's more a fault of the case, though.

Mouse: Razer Deathadder to Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum. Well simply put, the Razer was great but not for me. So I went for the G502 that everyone raves about, and I love the little thing. It's like a little brick, I loaded it up fully with weights and it suits me perfectly now. It just feels robust and high quality.

Things that got added and did not exist before:

3x Red LED Thermaltake Riing fans. They're great, I went with red because of the 'Red Rocket' theme. I have a motherboard with red accents, red RAM, and a graphics card with RGB LEDs that I set to red. I stuck one top of my radiator and the other two inside my case blowing in from the front panel. They look great from both the outside and in, and give an intimidating red glow.

Kingston HyperX Cloud II headset. I didn't have a good audio solution before, and got one from my girlfriend for my birthday. The woman has taste.

Red Rocket

Ok, now that my chuckles are done... One more Chuckle

Looks really nice but honestly that name makes me smile and I am soooo so happy to see a TT View 27 case

Yeeeeeah bit of a cheesy name. Maybe just 'Habanero' lol

And yeah it's a great case :) Especially for the money. It seems very underused?

Chek your cards VRAM temps. Evga has a problem with overheating.

Total mountain out of a mole hill. This was never a 'problem' until one guy's card caught fire on video...when the power wasn't plugged in

My temps were fine both before and after I installed the thermal pads

okay... jayztwocents said its a problem...

Jay also still uses and loves those cards. He was practically bullied both before and after making that video because he made a bigger fuss with the RX-480 power draw problem

Why wasn't this an issue over the last 6 months but suddenly is now?

What did you think of the case, you are the only one who has used this case and posted it. It looks awesome but is it good build quality?

  • 2 points

I would say so, yes. Everything seemed at least on par with my Corsair case in terms of build quality. Seems underpriced given what it is and its unique features. I know it was only released recently

Would be great to see a scratch test on the case and the window. I remember one video on YouTube where the case already had a scratch on it during the process of moving it.

could use a bit more storage but its a great build! good stuff

You're probably right but I dunno :/ Don't know what I'd use extra storage for myself, for anyone else you'd be correct

Hello, nice build. I am doing a build similar to your's, and was wondering about the case. Does it come with LED fans? If not what fans cause airflow looks pretty sass in this, also im an anti dust person (like everyone) and how many dust filters are there. thanks, thylelenny.

Pretty sure it's this, which is also listed on the side.

Thermaltake Riing 12 LED Red 40.6 CFM 120mm

No it doesn't unfortunately, those I had to install myself :/ I have a real dusty room, but this build is always clean. The closed off top helps with that

The case only comes with one exhaust fan. You'll have to add your own LED fans.

Would be great to see a lot more pictures!

Also, what PCI riser card did you use for the graphics card?

  • 1 point

The Thermaltake one that comes with their P5 line...it's horrible :(

What do you think of the case? I'm thinking about getting it.

Nice build btw! +1

Definitely a great case :) Be wary though, it seems in the ads as if the riser cable comes with it - but it doesn't.

  • 1 point

Nice build, but you forgot to put the price of the pcie riser cable into the part list.

  • 1 point

Well that was more deliberate - as I wouldn't wish that ****** component upon anyone, especially you good sir. Get a better riser than I did, or not at all.

Great job with the build. Very nice seeing a build with this case.

Hope to post my build with the Phanteks Enthoo Mini XL Dual System in the near future.

Well get a move on then! Phanteks systems always look fantastic

I want to purchase this case, but only if I can mount the gpu like you have it... Unfortunately, I have heard terrible things about the riser cable that thermaltake sells... Have you had any issues with it? If so, what were they? Do you know of a better cable? Thanks.

  • 2 points

You've heard terrible things because the TT cable is frankly ******* terrible. It worked for me for a while properly, but as of two weeks ago when I open a game I get about 17fps with it and I have bad audio distortion when using the monitor speakers. I uninstalled it and threw it in the garbage.

But the case itself is good :) Buy a different cable for it (the TT one doesn't come with the case anyway, you need to get it separately)

Hello, that's a great looking build. I'm intending on doing something similar. Can you comment as to which GPU riser cable you used? I'm comparing but getting mixed results. Thanks!

I used the Thermaltake one that usually goes with their P3 and P5 line. Don't use it, it's a woeful component and as of now, it's not working at all. Pick anything else.

Ripjaws V will. They're not too big.

with any 4k display you should always get a monitor with over 60hz. BUT, this build is ******* awesome!! Love the name too.

  • 2 points

There's no 4K monitors over 60hz. Trust me.

are you insane? Of course there is, its supposed to be over 60hz.

Ok then...if you're so certain you can buy a 4K monitor go link me one. As in a link to buy one, from any reputable site/seller

That looks fantastic from my end, one thing though: the only 120mm Corsair liquid cooler I'd put with a 7700K is a H80i, I've changed mine from this build to a H100i (which will also fit in your case by the way, if you want to take that step up)
