Description

Needed a small computer to take to work with me to game on. Micro center had an open box 3600 for discount. So Motherboard and CPU together was $250+ tax. Everything fit no problems. Itx builds will always be a little tight plugging in connectors. Was a lil confused on how to cable manage everything, sfx power cables are too short to run behind or in the above compartments. But took the time and zip tied some cables together and it's looking very nice. Probably keep it air-cooled as a single 120mm AIO will not be sufficient for me to upgrade other than looks

Cool build! +1

I don't know if you are aware of this but Noctua mentions in their manual for the AM4 mounting kit that for coolers that weight more than 700g (incl. the fan), such as the NH-U14S, it is recommended to have them uninstalled prior to transportation... Or you know, they could probably rip-off the socket.

Yeah ik, by their logic even the u12s needs to be removed for transport. I take this to work 4 times a week sandwiched between my front and rear passenger seats, doesn't rock around much. But i will update if a problem does occur. I thought about switching to an AIO since its safer to travel around with, but already had this cooler sitting around from 5 years ago.

Are you able to achieve 3600MHz with this RAM?

I'm interested in this answer as well. I'm planning a very similar build (R5 3600x with same mobo and RAM).

I can tell you that I've bought this RAM, MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX mobo and it works perfectly with XMP and 3600 MHz (you can see my build)

nice build. just ordered my case. How long are your custom cables for the SFX power supply?

no custom cables. Just travel the extra through top compartment and use zip ties to clean it up

Could we please have some information on thermals?

Build looks really nice I'm thinking of building something similar :)

Stock 38 idle, 73 cinebench cpu load. Overclock 4.2 1.4 V 38 idle 82 load. Gaming cpu in 60's and gpu low 80 depends on fan profile. Case was warm during gaming at first, before turning up the case fan speeds. Now its fine. I believe the rear exhaust fan was the main factor, its an old fan from a different case I had around. So i just set that to max to pull air out of the case and it has been great. i dont have any fans on the bottom and i don't have plans to get any.

That's really comforting to hear thank you so much! I was so worried about thermals, only thing pulling me back. I'm looking to put in a 3700x which has a lower TDP anyway, though I do want to put in a 3-fan Sapphire Nitro+ 5700XT so the heat from that might be an issue which consumes 265W...

If you don't mind, I have more questions.

  1. Would you recommend cable extensions to make use of the top/back compartment? I'd be using Corsair SF series but I'm sure length is standard with small PSU's. If so how long roughly would you estimate is needed?
  2. Would I be doomed without an exhaust? Current plan is 1 intake and a 2 fan CPU cooler (Dark Rock Pro 4)

Thank you!

Any bios issues with 3600?

Having not used something as expensive as the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut 5.5g thermal compound, I was wondering if it's worth it? I've generally only bought whatever Arctic Silver they had at MicroCenter for like $7, when I used to live in Pennsylvania. Is there a dramatic difference if you get the higher quality paste?

i just happen to have it from delidding my 4770k so I tend to use it whenever available. i'm sure 2-3 degrees difference. should get bigger difference if i put it onto my gpu
