Description

I built this 3 months ago system when I've just sold my Maximus Hero VII. I was debating between going forward with a Skylake build or staying with Z97 when I chanced upon a Z97 FTW for sale. It was a brand new unit sold by a EVGA Mod on the classifieds for 150CAD (around 110USD). So, I figured that I will stick with Z97 for a little longer and give the EVGA mobo a try - it was my first EVGA mobo.

Some of these parts were transferred over from my previous build, including a Zotac 980 Ti Amp! Extreme. After Nvidia annouced the 1080 and 1070, I traded the 980 Ti + 500 cash and a MSI 390x (which is why some photos had the 980 ti and some have the 390x) becase I feared that 980ti's would plummet in price.

This system is currently my back up, and honestly, I miss Windows 7. With the predator, this system is extremely fast. In fact, this system is noticeably faster and smoother than my Skylake (6700k+950 Pro).

This was my primary system before my Skylake build. I'm currently running a 6700k, 950 Pro, Maximus Formula VIII system.

Some component reviews:

NZXT S340 Pro - inexpensive, decent looking, excellent cable management and case interior design. Con - Acrylic scratches easy, limited radiator space

HyperX Predator Pro - friggin fast, uses PCIE allowing so that Haswell/older systems can feel young again Con - expensive, takes up a PCIE slot

Deepcool Captain 240 Pro - fans are great! honestly, these stock fans are surprisingly good built quality and purrformance. rare white colour, comes with a sexy 4 slot pwn fan hub Con - very disappointing lighting, which you can't control at all | light brightness 2/10

I was going to say that your pics were as good as the guy that had the feature with the glass phanteks case, then when the pics were starting on the porch, I realized it was all one and the same guy! I love your pics on your builds. I love how your "backup" computer would put most people's daily drivers to shame...

Do you regret not waiting for the RX 480? Other than that, neat build.

Thanks for the compliment !

As for the 480, this system was built early April, most of my parts were acquired before that. At that time, the 480 is nowhere in sight. Even the 1080 were just rumours back then. I use my pc professionally on a daily basis for photo and video processing. I couldn't have waited 2+ months.

I downgraded from 980ti because I would've lost even more money if I had stuck with the 980ti. I still lost moneyut just less, but there's nothing I could do, I need a gpu lol

RX 480 is slightly better than the 390x and 980. Probably only like a 4-10 fps difference. Though the PSU is completely overkill unless he does crossfire.

I ment because of the price..The RX 480 is $200..

Dude did you not learn from the 1080/1070. It will shoot up to 350 dollars because there is a limited supply unless AMD know that many people are going after the product.

Thanks!

I actually bought a few different types of cable combs from performance pcs...unfortunately none of them fit well. These cables are surprisingly thin, they don't feel like the commonly seen 4mm width.
