Description

Hey guys my name is AJ and this is an overview of my mid range build I've completed in preparation for the Darksouls 3 launch. A little background on this build and why I chose the parts listed. I am currently an active duty service member and that has to do a little with the camo theme I've chosen for the MBO and RAM. Other then that all of the other parts were selected to compliment the theme and have a great price for performance output. I hope this build is helpful and encouraging for those of you looking to make your first gaming rig Enjoy!

CPU Intel Core i5-6600K Quad-Core:

Great CPU if your not trying to break the bank for a Core i7 which will only give you roughly 4% more power for the extra $100.00 + investment (if your not planning on overclocking). Also a quad core CPU is really all you need for games these days.

CPU Cooler Enermax ETS-T40-W: Absolutely gorgeous design aside from the muster colored cables that show a little with the fan cords, but overall great looking cooler and amazing performance for $45.00!!

RAM Crucial Ballistix Sport LT: This RAM along side the Sabertooth Z170 S are the heart and soul of this build! The have matching white digital camo prints and were made for each other! They were also an incredible investment at only $75.00 for 16GB & come at stock 2400 speed!!!

Motherboard Asus Sabertooth Z170 ''S'': Beast of a board, LGA 1151 full ATX and what a monster she is, 5 year warranty and TUF guarantee just handling this board you can feel the high quality components and for the new skylake platform this board being only $170.00 is a steal!

Storage Kingston HyperX Fury SSD 240GB & Western Digital Black 1 TB HD: Needless to say if your looking for the best gaming experience you will need to yo upgrade to an SSD for your OS and have enough room for a couple of games or STEAM Library. But if your trying to save like me go with a fast HD that will get u by until your able to afford that M.2 or 500GB SSD!

CASE NZXT H440 & PSU Corsair 850i: Probably the hardest part of the build to come to terms with was choosing a chassis. After a lot of struggle because I am a Corsair fan boy at heart the reason I went with the H440 overall was price and the LED/ Fan controller combo. As for PSU you should never go cheap on this product as it will effect all of your other investments. A 80+ standard PSU is minimum in my book and I chose the 850i because of its color scheme, modular capabilities, silent operation, cosair link support and upgrade room for a second 980Ti in near future.

GPU Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980Ti: Last but not least is the GPU the reason I went with Gigabyte and not the more fitting HOF 980Ti offered by Galax was because of price and performance. This card has seen nothing but praise and I an a firm believe now after testing it myself! I look forward to adding another soon!

Other Accessories: NZXT HUE+,Corsair individually sleeved cable kit ,Kingston HyperX Cloud (White),Corsair Scimitar Mouse,Corsair Vengeance K65 Keyboard

I hope this build log has helped anyone on the fence about parts/ themes I know I was not super "in depth" with my explanations, because at the end of the day you should do your own research and figure out what works best for you and your budget!

ALSO Nvidia has the latest specs for PC parts needed to run Darksouls 3 though these are a little extreme I want the best experience possible so I overshot these specs.

I wouldn't exactly call a 980ti mid-range. +1 for a very nice build though! Also love that white PCB motherboard. Don't see those to often.

Oh btw, Don't put motherboards on the outside of anti-static bags. the outside actually attracts static, only the inside is protected. it's better to just let the motherboard sit on the box.

This is a bit above "mid-range." "Mid-range" is $800-$1200 for hardware alone. You're sort of in between being mid range and enthusiast, so how about we call this range "mid-enthusiast." Nitpicky captious phrasing aside, still an awesome build with some great peripherals!

Enthusiast No not even close Enthusiast is TItan X's 980ti's 5960x SLI 500+ mobo 64gb ram etc etc

+1 Even with the black cord it still looks great. I was going with a white and black theme on mine and I like the way your all white theme looks. Great job! Oh and I have the same gpu I got mine at 1400 mhz easily and it's amazing I am always surprised how well it destroys games frame rates. You'll get amazing performance with dark souls.

I honestly didn't even think of that, that's a great idea thank you! I'm buying plastic primer and paint for my monitor I can probably use it on that as well!

I dont understand what is your monitor resolution ? It looks like an 1920x1080

I have about the same build but I have the Corsair CX Series, CX600M, 600 Watt! Will this be enough power to run this system?

  • 1 point

600 is cutting it close I would say 650 or 700 to be safe but Pcpartpicker and new egg both have features that let u estimate the amount of power that's suggested! Also I chose 850 because I want a second 980Ti in the future!

You may notice that my 24 pin power cord is black =( (eyesore) this is because when you order kits from corsair you have to order the 24 pin separately and they sent me the wrong type by mistake. If your interested in cables like this and don't have a corsair PSU try cablemod!

  • 2 points

That cable is a bummer. Love to see the effort it taking the theme through to completion, nonetheless. May it always boot fast and true. +1

Yeah, I noticed that. Build still looks amazing.

What other games are you planning to play other than Dark Souls 3?

  • 1 point

Currently I have the divison, skyrim, fallout 3,4,newvegas, and some other old classics like fable league of legends ect. But I think ill be stuck on DS3 for a while LOL
