Description

I included a pic of my console games because i wanted to show that i was not a PC gamer before this build lol, my current computer which was an HP i bough at costco for 700 back in 2008 was just not up to par with my needs.

this build is used for my video editing, recording, streaming, emulating, gaming and was built to last for quite some time.

I BUILT THIS ALL MYSELF WITH JUST THE HELP OF THE INSTRUCTION MANUALS =)

NIGHTMARE......i called it this due to all the problems i had with faulty products, wait times, wrong items received and rude customer service.

  1. case was white not black so i sent it back
  2. PSU was DOA TWICE so that was a hassle
  3. NO MINI SATA CABLES INCLUDED
  4. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE THROUGH NCIXUS

now idk if mini sata cables are included on anything i purchased but since i was not aware i needed them i had to purchase 3 cables so thats another few days wait time.

So After i purchased all these parts it was about 2 weeks and 5 days later that i finally had everything i was supposed to in order to make this work. the term NIGHTMARE was a joke but it stuck and i thought it sounded catchy so i used it as an actual name.

CASE.....this case has very little room for cable management, my biggest concern was a nice clean look well good lord with literally less than 1 inch of room from the side panel to the panel the MOBO sits on its not much so it was a hassle putting the panel back on....sorry i did not include pictures of the wiring......i was able to zip tie them together and to the panel but there was just so many that it was a mess regardless of how much i tried...force finally let me secure the panel back on. ALSO the ports to run wires through is VERY VERY VERY WEAK the rubber gripping the case where the wires run through will easily pop out with even the smallest wire pushed through.....to me i give this case an 9 out of 10... a perfect score would have been if more room for cables was added.

PSU......the biggest problem was the PSU cord being almost 1 1/2 inches thick it was very difficult to thread it anywhere on the case so that is why its visible under the optical drive. in the pictures above

MOBO....nice, clean, and very sexy with the black and red finish everything was clearly specified for easy installation. the owners manual was literally a life saver. also the Optical sound port was a huge plus since i own Astro A50's. many people said this MOBO was DOA and faulty but to me it was sturdy and worked first try

CPU....not much to say but i went with the one i thought was best although i am aware there may be better ones than the one i purchased.

CPU COOLER.....ok now this thing dear god....the case has a fan attached to the top of it so it is mandatory that you remove it in order to place the cooler as i did. now i saw builds with the fans placed under the radiator but this was not capable with my build, the fans would make contact with the mobo making it impossible to install. so i installed the radiator under the top of the tower and then placed the two stock fans it came with ontop of the radiator serving as a foundation holding the radiator up in place.

MEMORY.... was not my intention to get these colors but im glad i did due to them matching the MOBO color's. i originally went with just two 8gb sticks but said screw it go big or go home and went with another set for 32gb of ram

STORAGE.... i originally had two 3tb seagate HD but thought that was a little to much so i went with one and got a 256GB SSD.....neither came with cables and my HD didnt even come in a box NEWEGG just sent it to me wrapped in its factory sealed bag and then wrapped in bubble wrap no box at all very lazy and suspicious.

VIDEO CARD.....no idea what was better or worse this was the category where i thought the higher the price the better lol, although before purchasing the card that i did i had another model in its place. it was cheaper i know that but i decided screw it and went with the one i got.....lucky me it came with a free game called DAY LIGHT so that was cool. ALSO i had to remove 6 of the internal drive slots in order for this to fit, in the end it looks nicer with the drive slots taken out anyway

PSU..... received and DOA then returned it and got another and still DOA finally the 3rd worked and idk what everyone is complaining about cause its literally silent while the pc is running. people complained that it was loud but not mine so im happy with the purchase.

OPTICAL DRIVE....idk why i thought when i purchased windows 8 it would just automatically be installed so after realizing OH S*** its a disk i went to best buy and purchased this OD, 3D playback, blue ray burner and player along with cd burner and player nice and sturdy but the disk tray on its way out is very flimsy and seems very delicate

KEYBOARD.... i purchased this cause i liked the style and red back lighting on the keys also its a huge upgrade from my HP keyboard that came stock with the pc i purchased back in 2008

CUSTOM......i purchased this NZXT HUE because no computer is complete without LED lights lol, the strand is long, i was able to wrap it around the windowed side panel twice before i ran out. its easy to use although its sometimes confusing trying to get a color but as for the settings and modes its a simple click of the button to change the brightness and modes.

MISC.......i had purchased a ASUS monitor but it was not what i expected it was labeled as an LED but in fact was a LED BACKLIGHT LCD so i returned it and got my money back which was 597. i do plan on purchasing an LED monitor with resolutions of 2560x1440 in the future once i can find a decent one.

i am also using a ASTRO A50 wireless headset not included in the final purchase due to buying these last month for my xbox one and ps4 but i have them plugged into the MOBO and the sound quality is amazing.

well that about sums it all up.... i hope you all enjoy the build i tried to take the best pictures i could some may and are the same picture twice but some with flash and some without

Sata cables always comes with motherboard not the drives. Pretty sure the G45 comes with 4 sata cables? If not 6

I have the G65 and it came with the SATA cables. So I would assume this one comes with it too.

ya nope didnt come with anything =/

I have the G45 and I can personally say it only comes with 2 sata cables.

Weird, I did a build with the g45 pretty sure it had 4 sata cables, maybe there's a difference in what model of the board it is.

I did my build in February so I don't know if MSI decided to cheap out or what.

lucky im wondering if mine was tampered with even though it was sealed when arrived

  • 1 point

ya idk, the mobo was sealed and everything inside was new and never opened so maybe they were removed somewhere between the factory and my house lol

Nice Build. I just put my together and need to post it.

I will be honest you do not really need 32GB of RAM. I have 16GB and rarely go over 4GB and that is with playing games and running multiple things at once.

Nice find on the 3TB drive. I ended up with a 2TB drive for $79.

I noticed you got the 256 Pro. To save a few bucks you could have got the 250GB EVO which runs just about the same.

I would have got the MSI GTX 780. I believe MSI offers more tweaking if you have a MSI board and MSI graphics card.

Overall though it is a very nice build. I wanted a GTX 780 but I was on a budget. I like the cable management as well. I need to work on mine some.

Mythic did say that he will do streaming and video editing and if he wants to "Future proof" it to an extent, it makes sense.

  • 1 point

i have 16gb as well and i idle at 3gb already! I find 16gb at the moment the perfect sweetspot for RAM but nonetheless 8gb will do fine. But if you do streaming or editing 32gb might work better for you.

  • 1 point

ya everyone said 32 ram was overkill but i figured eh i'll go the extra mile lol, ya i wasnt even thinking about getting matching parts idk why. 3tb is pretty good i agree i just hope it lasts, comments i read said it was faulty and died after a few months =/

  • 1 point

Yeah I wanted to have matching parts - lol

Hopefully it doesn't go bad on you in a few months.

I missed the part about video editing. I wouldn't mind have 32GB of ram mainly because I want to run VM.

I'm sure your machine will handle whatever you throw at it.

Here is my build:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3mEaU

I was able to stream music, play games, rip a blu-ray palyer (makemkv is great) and also do shadowplay all at the same time.

You won't find a true LED (OLED) monitor within a decent price range for a long time...

I suggest reading these: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/332875-33-difference-backlight-monitor

I was about to debate you, but I did my research first.

i actually have an LED LG and an LCD HP and both have the same desktop background and side by side you can tell one is far superior than the other....at this rate idk what i'll do i know i want a higher res than traditional 1920 x 1080 so it narrows it down drastically until more come out. im thinking about just sticking with my stock hp and saving money

You could run your 24pin power behind the case, then the cable management is mint! run it through the buttom, but to the top grommet and poof, it looks cleaner!.

Iv i have worked with this case plenty of times and managed to get it behind the case, though i do agree with the space behind it, i still always got the cables back there.

Nice build! +1

i am going to try again, even if it means forcing the side panel shut, since there is no need for that side to be opened it should be fine i just get hesitant on force especially since this is my first, but i agree with you its an eye sore and needs to be dealt with

  • 1 point

It isnt that it looks horrible, just would make it that much better and if you cant figure it out its no big deal its still a super clean cable management.

Nice build. I see that case being used SOOO much though xD

seriously, prior to choosing it i had 3 others in mind, but ultimately chose this due to price

You should download corsair link to change the color of the H100i light. I think you have to find a beta version of it though to works with Windows 8.1. Also you can install windows with a usb drive.

ya i have the program and it doesnt recognize my H100i when i have the time i am def going to look cause i cant stand the white light

If I remember right, its somewhere in Corsair's forums. I saw the link for it in one of the builds on here. Good luck.

Super high end build there that looks really slick and dare I say it, BEAST MODE!

Prolly overkilled it a bit for the foreseeable future, but better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it, right!

haha right, my friend who works for cal tech as a computer engineer said the same thing that i should tone it down but i wanted something that will last for longer than 5 years

  • 1 point

Hey, nice build. I had the same problem with a broken PSU. I know how you feel, for me I started stressing out (did stay calm) since I didn't know what part was faulty.

  • 1 point

ya i even asked the folks at newegg will call if they could test it out to see if maybe it was just an error on my part but they refused my request =/

  • 1 point

Sorry to hear about your troubles with this build. I currently am dealing with annoying problems in my build as well (compatibility issues, defective cooler, replacement missing mounting parts...). It really puts things in perspective though, and the next time I build I'll be ordering through newegg and amazon exclusively regardless of $10-20 savings as some of these smaller retailers just can't compete with their service when things go wrong.

  • 1 point

heck ya, that is my thoughts exactly considering amazon will get you your merchandise the day after, its def worth the extra $$ knowing you will be getting legit equipment, NCIXus was just a waste of time, even their will call place was disgusting the waiting room had so many dead bugs and dust i n it they said sorry after i left and their customer support was just unhelpful
