This is a starting point for my nephew-in-law for his birthday. I'm hoping this is the starting point for him and he can slowly upgrade later. I know its made out of basically 10 year old parts, but its a staring point for a beginner pc gamer. That way if he falls out of love with pc gaming it won't be a a costly loss. This Build was the result of a trade I made with a friend for a kitchen sink I had laying around. The other interesting thing about this build it that I had built it for a different friend back in 2009. I didn't find anything themed like this on here so I though maybe someone would be interested in it.

I have tested Overwatch on this thing and on medium setting at 1080p it can still push out 55fps which is good enough. I don't actually own CSGO but I think it is a less demanding game being from 2014.

Paint Job

Not the best in the world, I hated the just black and mesh metal from the time period so I when for something CSGO orange and black. White was a nice little accent color that would add some depth to the case. Some scratching did occur on the white rails they just didn't want to go back in. I did rush the paint a little and had some bleeding and even stepped on it.(I just won't work in a tight area next time.)

I've actually worked with that cpu... You can combined it with a 1050 gtx, 750 ti, or a 950 gtx and it'll hold up for your nephew for some modern games. +1 for keeping it alive!!

I had a Phenom II 970 in 2012 that was paired with an HD7850 and it played every game out at that time very well. I'm sure it will still hang with most games even now 5 years later.

Yes, and you could even pick up a phenom 6 core for $50/$60 off ebay that would work with this board too I believe

I have that same GPU (almost, its the 2GB DDR3 version) in my daughter's computer paired with an A10-6800k and I'm sure you will get very good performance on CS:GO. Probably well over 60FPS even on high settings. Those kind of "light" games are really the only ones she plays, which is why her GPU hasn't needed an upgrade yet. But for CS:GO you should be just fine.

If the R7 240 can do this your R7 250 is no problem.

Looks quiet nice but you got a few scratches there

I like those scratches. They give the case a more "warlike" appearance like it's been through some action.

yeah, those scratches where already there. there pretty deep so I just painted over them.

Damn 55 FPS medium? My RX 480 is barely hitting 70 after these new patches :/

my gtx 970 still hits 100 ish fps with everything maxed out

Yeah I dunno, I think I might actually be throttling as this thing spikes up to 90C on high... guess thats what I get for buying reference and not waiting

Looks good! Yes, the scratches add to the feel. Like battle scars. Thanks for sharing.

I'm sure there's a kitchen sink joke there somewhere, but I just woke up. I'll leave that to someone else.

Really cool to see a Phenom II x4 965 running again. I still have two B.E.'s. One in my oldest son's computer and the other sitting on a board waiting for a home. The paint job is right on point with what I would expect a CSGO orange and black themed pc to look like. If it was scratch-less it would be too pretty. To think it only cost you a sink. If your nephew doesn't get the bug may I suggest taking it back. Putting some more ram in it, put a sweet O.C. on it and maybe a 1050ti. It will be solid for a while for sure.

Yeah I have grown slightly attached to it since I finished it up. But as I already own a pc with a 2500k and don't have a use for a second one its fine. I am going to suggest that he throw a new gpu in there sometimes this year to bump up performance. I have tested it with a gtx 760 and that really bought up frame rates.

Case is well worn, you should've spent the extra money and got a factory new one.
