Description

I built this rig primarily for gaming. The main goal was to build a simple/clean machine with beefy processor, decent 1080P card with the intent to upgrade to 4K or 1440 very soon. I also use it for Plex media server. I didn't really have a budget but wasn't looking to go bankrupt either. it is overclocked to 4.7GHZ, I have not messed with GPU so clocks are stock. I'm not crazy about the K70 for the simple fact I type slower on it. I can type faster on nearly every other keyboard from laptops to my Ipad Logitech keyboard. I also wish I had gone with brown switches. My steel series kinzu mouse came free with motherboard and I'm not in a rush to upgrade. Can't beat free 99. used electric tape for cleaning up wires, not fancy but it works, posted some before and after pics of cables. A little bit of electric tape and some time made a big differences using those ugly PS cables.

PSU haters: got the CX750m for 52 bucks! can't beat that. It's super quiet if it last me three years I will be happy.

Build issues:

H100i was not seated properly leading to higher temps. After some brief research it seems some MBs are too thin for 100i mount, simple fix, add washers on back of mother board. CPU runs cooler when not over clocked obviously.

Upgrades coming soon:

GPU, I skimped on the GPU and Monitor on this build because I will upgrade to 4K as soon as they make a single card that can run all games at 60 FPS. That card does not exist today and I'm not interested in SLI. My GTX 960 runs all my games at or very close to 60 FPS so I figured why blow money on a 980ti if an upgrade to 4k is coming very soon.

4K curved monitor, what are your opinions on 4k curved monitors?

SSD, 500GB Samsung EVO that will be used strictly for games.

Corsair quiet edition fans, I plan on changing all fans to red ring quiet edition.

any recommendations on how to remotely turn my PC on from mobile device?

It looks nice. There are some nice parts chosen. The colors are good. The GPU makes sense if you want to upgrade in the future like you said you want to.

I understand, for a while I thought I was the only one in the world running a 4790k with gtx960 haha. Like I said I will be upgrading to 4k soon so It did not make sense to do anything more than 960.

It's fine for a few months. Plus it is reasonably priced. It's not even that bad of a card for 1080 P honestly. You could play for many months on that and be fine.

My problem with 4K is there is just not a video card out there right now that can handle it. Around summer or so both AMD and Nvidia will have a single card that can handle it. Plus there really aren't any monitors good enough to handle it either. Maybe the more important factor. Why would you want 60 Hz, 6 Ms at 4K if 144 Hz, 1 Ms at 4K is around the corner? Honestly for me I think 4 K monitors are several generations away from what I would really even want. Will that be 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months or more? Who knows. But IMO it clearly is not there yet.

i would recommend noctua case fans over anything else but other than that it seams to be a good budget gaming pc, Also would be a better choice for WD black series hdd for 1tb/2tb or something of the sort. the WD drives are meant for different uses

personal preference, i would rather of gone with the k70, but thats all about preference. it also is like 50-70 bucks more so i understand.

Thank you for the tips.can you tell me more about the Noctua fans?

I went with the Blue drives because theyre lightly used and only 40 a drive.

SSD are for gaming, blue drives are for media. I'll check those fans out, they seem to be quite popular and thank you for the feedback.

I see your build now, you were asking me about the CX PSUs on someone elses build. If you keep the PSU all I suggest is you DO NOT OC the CPU. I would never OC on any PSU thats tier 3 or less, other ppl would beg to differ but I wouldnt.

Nice build nonetheless. +1 :)
