Description

This was my main project this summer and first build I've ever. I had been poking around on here as well as /r/buildapc for a while so I finally decided to give it a go. It's designed primarily as a gaming/streaming rig for college.

I acquired the parts over the period of about a month, waiting for the perfect time to strike as each went on sale. I think I did pretty well price wise. In hindsight, I also could have spent a bit less on my case and motherboard and gotten a better GPU, but overall, I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I've been averaging above 60fps with maxed settings in every game so far.

I'd like to add sleeved cables and a second monitor at some point. That won't be for a while though, as this broke college student is now REALLY broke.

Update: Upgraded cooling, peripherals and replaced TV with a proper monitor.

Honestly the motherboard and case were a good choice. Good cable management and balanced parts

I have them in my gaming rig and I love them. If you grab some aftermarket cooling the overclocking is a breeze!

Well built, well reasoned. You already figured out the things you might have done differently, good job and congrats on the first build! It's exciting. :D

Thanks a lot! :D I really enjoyed working on it; hopefully I have the opportunity create even better builds in the future.

If you want a cool red/black mouse that won't blow a hole in your wallet, check out the e-blue cobra jr. It's on amazon for 13$, I use it with a high end rig (4670k+770) and its really nice (and glows red :D). In case you're looking for a keyboard, I'd recommend the cooler master storm quickfire TK with cherry mx red switches. Red backlit, I also own it, and it looks great with my color scheme.

That is definitely something I will look into. Right now I'm rocking a Logitech K360 I got on clearance and the tiny wireless mouse from my laptop haha. Thanks for the suggestions!

How is the 7870 going for you? Do you have any FPS's or anything? Otherwise, nice build :)

It's more than decent. Right now I've only played Borderlands 2 and some custom zombies on World at War. I average over 60FPS on max settings. The AMD drivers and Vision/Catalyst software navigation could be a bit better, but that's not a big deal. In regards to in-game experience though, things are great! Gonna grab BF3 soon (I have it on PS3). Also going to get BF4 and Titanfall when they come out.

ok only one comment idk when you bought your gpu but if it was recently you could have gotten the 7950 for the same price it also comes with three games under the AMD never settle deal that they have thru the end of the year

Yeah I bought it about 2 months ago. I was pretty bummed when all the cards went on sale last week, but that's just how things go in the tech world.

Well anyway +1 for good part selection. Not bad for an amd build. Great balancing and good use of money.
